Just re-watched Civil War

And had a very sad realization (shocking? Not a bit)

Mid-fight with Steve, FRIDAY says “You can’t beat him hand-to-hand,” and Tony replies, “Analyze his fight pattern.” And then we actually *see* FRIDAY run the analysis in real-time. I’m talking:

Analysis of Steve’s fighting form and the shield,

an in-depth scan of the suit, and finally

Analysis of the literal impact force of Steve’s hits. 

You could read into this in a lot of different ways. But I’ll tell you what it meant to me. 

It meant that in every interaction Tony could conceive of with Steve, in every contingency Tony ever thought through, in thousands of possibilities Tony Stark never once thought he’d have to fight Steve Rogers. Not seriously.

He didn’t have a plan for it. He didn’t have a preset protocol for FRIDAY to call up. Not even close.

Because ready-for-everything-always Tony Stark — the creator of the Iron Legion; the maker of Veronica and the Hulkbuster; the guy who installed an instant kill mode in Peter’s suit; the guy who slept with his suit at his beck and call every night for months; the guy who has been thinking about Thanos since before he could put a name to the imminent threat he foresaw; Tony my-middle-name-should-be-paranoid (with good reason) Stark — never once considered that he’d be up against Steve Rogers. 

I think that’s heartbreaking. And it says a hell of a lot. 

“You see, we tend to draw parallels between people we lost and people we meet. We are like ghosts unable to let go of our haunt, filled to the brim with memories and heartache.”

“Tony, just stop,” you pleaded with your friend and co-worker. Your head rested in your hands as you rubbed your temples with your thumbs.

“Come on, Y/N,” Tony prodded from where he was perched on the edge of your desk. “Just one date. You and John would be perfect together.“

You leaned back in your seat, arms crossed over your chest. This had been going on for the last month. “Tony, I do not need your help finding a date. I only agreed to the last two because you wouldn’t leave me alone about it. If I recall correctly, you said they were perfect for me as well.”

He cleared his throat, his gaze darting down then back to you. “They were.”

You arched a brow. “I’m actually concerned about what that means you think about me, DiNozzo. Richard was an ass–”

“He couldn’t have been that bad.”

“He hit on the waitress while I was in the restroom and slipped her his phone number. She told me before we left.”

Natasha stuck to the shadows as she walked further into the Hydra base. “Captain, I’ve got a heat signature up ahead, it looks like some sort of animal.”

Steve spoke back through the com, “See what it is, but don’t get hurt.”

Natasha smirked, even though she knew Steve couldn’t see, “When do I ever get hurt?”

She crouched, pulling out her gun as she turned the corner and saw the cell that was in the wall.

She gasped and tears welled up in her eyes. Because in the cell, that looked alarmingly like a cage, was a tiny, matted up orange tabby kitten.

Natasha glanced up and down the hallway before putting her gun away and crouching down to the ground. The kitten’s wide eyes were eerily human looking as it watched Natasha with fear.

Natasha whispered softly, stretching out a hand, “Why would Hydra have a kitten locked up?”

As she reached her hand in between the bars, the kitten arched its back and began hissing at Natasha.

“Nat! Status report! We’re getting pummeled out here!” Tony’s voice crackled in Natasha’s comm. She growled under her breath as she retracted her hand and responded.

“It’s odd Tony…I’ve got a kitten…” She trailed off as her mouth gaped open. The kitten in the cell started seizing and growing and changing.

I just want to apologize to all of the fic writers

… whose stories I was interrupted reading sooo many times that I lost the thread, or lost momentum, or just straight-up lost the tab and never got to the end of what was probably a damn good story.

It happens more than I like to admit.

I want to apologize to the writers whose story I read and enjoyed, but it was just too late, or I was too cranky, too overwhelmed, or simply too lazy, and I never wrote a comment, made a bookmark, or shared it with my friends.

There are a lot of those, too.

I want to apologize to the fic writers whose stories I never finished (or started) because of an inadequate summary, or grammar, or formatting.  There are reasons for all those things, but sometimes I am impatient, or lazy, or judgmental, and I probably miss out on a lot of good things.

You work so hard.  I KNOW how hard it is to have an idea and write it down and see it through to the very end while meanwhile Life rains down on you.  And I always feel bad when I don’t give you the kudos and recognition you deserve.

It is such a small thing to say thank you, but sometimes I don’t.

Thinking about how when Spencer and Derek were interrogating a violent suspect and he lurched forward at them, Derek’s first instinct was to jump up physically put himself between Spencer and their suspect.

Thinking about how Derek, who is notably not in charge, told Spencer that “I am not letting you get on that [hostage] train,” indicating that he sees himself as a non-negociable barrier between Spencer and dangerous situations.

Thinking about how when Spencer was missing, Derek was irrationally and uncharacteristically angry at JJ for not doing a sufficient job at protecting Spencer, and the fact that he wanted physical revenge on the man who hit him on camera.

Thinking about Spencer being poisoned and Derek refusing to leave his side, spending the night in a hospital chair just to be near him and see to it that the treatment would work.

Thinking about how Spencer had a dream that he was being eaten alive by leeches and his automatic subconscious response was to cry out for Derek, because he knew that he would be there to help him.

Thinking about the fact that they fall so naturally into a protector/protected rhythm that neither of them even really seem to consciously think about it

this describes all of their personalities (1x01)

derek: athleticism without thinking about it

spencer: yes, he is an adult but also spins absentmindedly in a spinny chair bc spinny chair (also how tf is he able to sit like that)

hotch: trying to figure out when he became the dad of two teenage men

gideon: “someone put me out of my misery”
