Okay I’m still not over Dead Apple

Sorry if it has already been said before, but I was thinking A LOT about one parallel.

It is situated at the beginning and in the end of the movie.

Two scenes paralleling each other perfectly. But at the beginning we can 100% agree that Dazai came here to commemorate his friend, and in the end of the movie… most of us couldn’t agree with Atsushi’s words because our opinions on Dazai can vary. Because everyone of us sees him differently, and so do other Bungou Stray Dogs characters. Mostly, they hate him for what he’s done. For his actions that broke people’s souls. For everything that still itches inside Dazai’s heart.

Dazai by himself thinks that he’s evil. And yes, he’s made lots of things that make him (and us) think so.

But Atsushi doesn’t have the same opinion.

Even knowing that Dazai has done lots and lots of bad things in his life, Atsushi still thinks of him as a good person.

And I think that this parallel shows us real Dazai. Because even if he himself doesn’t think so, he changes. Slowly, painfully, overstepping his past mistakes and accepting himself, but he changes. He’s still manipulative and he’s still doing everything to get what he needs even if it means he should injure somebody.

But Atsushi still sees a good person in him despite everything Dazai did and does. Atsushi, one of the few people, believes in him and in his kindness. Atsushi CAN see through his masks and CAN understand Dazai, so both of his phrases – at the beginning and in the end – are true. He’s confused because it’s obvious that Dazai came to the grave with a certain purpose and it’s obvious that Dazai has opportunity to be good.

And Dazai is shocked. He has not so many people who have seen through him so deeply and who have believed in him so sincerely.

Dazai is not an angel. He’s kind of devilish sometimes, sadistic, pain in his soul makes him want to end all of it. He hates pain. He hates the process of living. He hates himself. He can’t end it.

But when there are people like Atsushi around him, who believe in him despite of everything, he still can manage. Dazai still has a chance to become a better person, even if it’s not what he’s used to. And Atsushi several times showed that he’s here to save him.

Just like Dazai ones saved Atsushi.

If you like BNHA / Boku No Hero Academia / My Hero Academia then you should definitely watch Tiger and Bunny

It’s the spiritual 2011 precursor to BNHA in that it is a modern, self-aware, intelligent play on the superhero genre with a cast of unique and likeable characters and interesting world building. 

It’s basically the world of BNHA but in reverse. When I first watched BNH I said “this is literally Tiger and Bunny but with school children and more powers”. Tiger and Bunny is like BNHA but with a cast of adults instead of teens. 

People with powers are called NEXT, they make up a small percentage of the population, were seen as anomalies and hated until a man decided to make them into reality TV show stars and profit off broadcasting their heroism. Now superheroes are superstars, and the anime was funded specifically by ad revenue for REAL companies that they have on their suits, but with an in-universe explanation. Clever. 

The main character is Izuku Midoriya if Midoriya were a hot dad. 

Not kidding. 

The main character is Kotetsu AKA Wild Tiger, who’s the only hero who seems to truly believe in real heroism instead of the capitalism it feeds. Though people at first think he’s outdated and idealistic and a little stupid, everyone in the cast is basically in love with him by the end of season 1, and he’s inspired all of his fellow heroes, ESPECIALLY his partner, the prettyboy Batman Iron Man pastiche, Barnaby (who Kotetsu nicknamed Bunny), with whom Kotetsu shares a superpower.

There are lots of other great cast members too, INCLUDING A SUCCESSFUL AND WELL-LOVED QUEER CHARACTER WHO HAS AN EMOTIONAL CHARACTER ARC IN ONE OF THE FILMS

The plot of Tiger and Bunny follows Tiger being paired up with Barnaby after his own agency goes bankrupt. Barnaby, meanwhile, is the only superhero without a secret identity, who’s actively looking for the man who murdered his parents. A man who’s literally The Joker. He even has a Harley Quinn. 

THEY EVEN HAVE A KILLER WHO BELIEVES HEROES ARE HYPOCRITES AND NO TRUE HEROISM EXISTS ANYMORE EXCEPT IN ONE PERSON AND ALL FALSE HEROES NEED TO BE TAUGHT A LESSON. SOUND FAMILIAR?

Yeah his name is Lunatic and he’s literally Stain the Hero Killer if Stain weren’t a human ninja turtle

You may also have noticed the ridiculous number of BL / Yaoi doujin dedicated to this anime and its two main characters. Which is actually how I got to watching the anime in the first place. Because they’re all really ridiculously beautiful. 

Which is unsurprising considering their relationship, which half the creators have stated can be read as romantic. 

But it sadly isn’t shown to be onscreen. Yet. Maybe one day.

It’s two seasons long plus a couple of movies (the movies have a different art style but are still mostly worth watching), and there have been teases of films and a third season recently with the still ongoing success of superhero shows, including BNHA. 

IN SUMMARY: WATCH THIS SHOW. IT’S VERY GOOD. THE DUB IS ALSO EXCELLENT, ONE OF THE BEST. 

EDIT: It’s on Netflix but the Netflix version erased their suit ads so it just looks weird and removes a large part of the world building. That said, I think you can also watch it on the VizMedia site with the ads? Either way, just remember that, if you watch it on Netflix, they’re supposed to have advertising on their suits :))

Edit 2: The subs apparently have more nuance than the dubs! Especially when it comes to the smaller LGBTQ+ aspects of the story. So the subs are more recommendable. I enjoy the dubs simply because I prefer dubs when they’re good and the dubs here are excellent, but it’s worth watching in either form.

It’s the best timeline we fanfic authors could have possibly asked for:

Loki escapes with the Tesseract for parts unknown

Steve learns Bucky is alive two whole years ahead of schedule

Tony now has to rethink keeping the arc reactor in his chest and might get it removed much sooner

Thor, now without Loki, the Tesseract or even the Mind Stone, cannot return to Asgard empty handed, which means he will have no choice but to stay on Earth and bond with the other Avengers while they all search for him

Steve is supposedly loyal to HYDRA, which could lead to important information being slipped to him and speed up Bucky’s rescue

If JARVIS was still uploaded to Stark Tower and keeping tabs on everything like he always is in the IM movies, he more than likely has footage recorded of future!Tony sneaking into the tower and dressing up as a guard, future!Steve entering the tower while Loki is still in custody proving that he wasn’t just Loki in disguise, and Loki grabbing the Tesseract and gtfo'ing outta there

Bruce Banner now has a connection to the Ancient One that he doesn’t know about, and while I’m sure she’ll try to avoid him to preserve the timeline, with how much everything else is changing it’s anyone’s guess as to what happens next

Random street camera footage of two Hulks existing at the same time??? One acting as normal and the other being oddly unenthusiastic about ripping the aliens apart and smashing debris???

The Mind Stone is no longer in HYDRA’s possession, so they can’t use it to experiment on the Maximoffs

With the Loki series still on the horizon and our collective knowledge of what happens in the future movies, the story is now in our hands.

This is literally the timeline of our dreams. I don’t give a shit what the Russos or anyone else at Marvel says: this timeline belongs to the fandom and no one else.

Wanda and Pietro aren’t subjected to the power of the Mind Stone, which allows their natural mutant abilities (superspeed equivalent to Peter Maximoff’s time-defying stunts in the X-Men franchise for Pietro, and the ability to warp reality as she sees fit for Wanda) to actually appear naturally within them during a time of great stress for them both.

Law gets captured by fisherman and ends up in an aquarium where he’s tested and experimented on. 

Luffy has full access to the facility because his grandpa runs the place. He usually plays with the fishes and swims with the dolphins.

They meet because Law escapes from his tank and is need in water due to being out too long. Luffy drags him in a secret room where he places him in an underwater tube.

They become friends, well, Law doesn’t trust him automatically. Luffy proves it to him that he’s trustworthy.

Luffy helps Law escape by putting him in a barrel. He fooled everyone.

When Law finally gets back in the ocean, he ends up coming back, hoping to see Luffy again. He was smitten with him.

Luffy sees Law again and swims with him. Law wants to be with him so bad, but he can’t live on land. 

Law gets captured for a second time. But this time it was by Luffy, in another facility. Underwater. Luffy had asked his grandpa for a big favor.

Luffy now runs a facility below where he can be with Law and do research on marine animals. Law can go in and out as he pleases, while still being with Luffy.

Harley Keener was the son Tony accidentally found. Tony was in a dark place, but there was a kid in Tennessee in need of a new dad. Over the years, they kept in touch, and Tony became the only father figure Harley had ever known.

Peter Parker was the son Tony never meant to have. The kid was always getting himself into trouble, from burning buildings to recklessly confronting bad guys. But as they grew closer, Peter became Tony’s son as much as Harley had been, and Tony became his role model — the person he looked up to the most.

Tony saved the world, partly for Peter. Because that’s just what he did for his children.

Morgan Stark was the daughter Tony wanted. Even though she was the only one related to Tony by blood, she certainly wasn’t his only child. Tony vowed never to make any mistake by her, and he saved the world for her too. He protected her as fiercely as he could, till the very end.

Even though Tony Stark never had a father of his own, he never hesitated to provide support to every single one of his children. Tony loved them in his own way, and they loved him back 3000.

Because no one was a better father than him.

that feeling when you’ve been reading all those gentle soft happy fanfics where everyone is gay and in love and it’s not a big deal and their friends all support them.

and your favourite superhero couples and detectives and kings and warlocks are just domestic and happy.

and then you emerge into the real world and it’s just not like that.

you walk into your job in the morning and know that if anyone knew, you’d be out the door. kids use the word ‘gay’ as a slur and it might be silly but it makes something hurt inside your chest. you look at your mother and think of the words she’d use to cut you with if you told her. the disgust on her face. you have your family around you and you know it could all be shattered in a minute and it would be you who’d done it.

everyone assumes your straightness. people look at you strangely when you use ‘they/them’ pronouns when asking what their fiancé’s name is, bcs you don’t want to make the same mistake that others make with you. you file forms with spaces for the mother’s name and father’s name and wonder how you’d fill them out if you had a partner and a child. you work with children and wonder what they have to hide about themselves.

and then, sometimes, you go home and read some more fanfic. maybe you write some, or draw fanart if that’s your thing. that’s the best thing, that we’re dreaming about a better world. maybe we’re not famous or published or earning money for what we do. but writing and reading fanworks like this helps a heck of a lot of people, including me, feel happy and comforted and like it’s possible that they might belong one day. that it gets better.

thank you, everyone who creates fanworks where being gay is simply treated as normal. your work is healing and wholesome and full of heart and goodness. and much as i may love the canon, it’s not the canon - it’s the fanworks that are a safe haven to retreat to and recover and heal.

So I’ve just recently started reading Noragami after watching the anime a couple months ago, and the whole time I can’t stop making comparisons to the Legend of Eli Monpress and seeing similarities in several of the characters. Putting most of this under a cut because there’s only a few of you who have read Eli Monpress, and also because my lovely roommate/bestie has only just started reading Eli Monpress and there’s gonna be some later novel spoilers in here.

Love y'all, anyways, soul mate au where Tony has two soul marks and one of them belongs to bucky, but he doesn't know who the second one belongs to until the soul Mark on bucky changes when he's in winter mode, and it turns out bucky and winter who are 2 different people in one body end up both being tony's soul mate.

It takes every ounce of Tony’s self-control to not drop the giant, screeching bug thing he’s trying to wrangle into one of the containment units when he hears Bucky grunt and then curse right before the comms cut out. Bucky’s more than capable of handling himself—the bugs are more annoying than dangerous, anyway—but being relatively freshly bonded is still fucking with Tony’s instincts every now and again.

He finally manages to stuff the wriggling bug into a cage, slams the door shut, and quickly takes off again, doubling back towards the portal the bugs are crawling out of. Bucky’s a little off to the side, on his hands and knees, panting, but looking mostly unharmed.

“Talk to me, Buckaroo,” Tony says as he lands in front Bucky, retracting the faceplate. “What’s happening?”

For a long moment, Bucky doesn’t react, just keeps breathing hard and quick. Then he slowly lifts his head, face eerily blank, and rasps, “Unclear.”
