People talk about Lovecraft being racist like he was an influencial Klansman leader who personally owned about 20 black servants and donated money to the Nazis.

The reality was he was basically scared of the unknown and anything different from his own sheltered white boy culture, which is a pretty frequent theme that comes up in his work. Even most people in the 30s and 40s thought his brand of xenophobia was extreme, partly because it was very literal fear of anything different. The Shadow Over Innsmouth and The Dunwich Horror didn’t exactly discourage mixed-race marriages, for instance.

And then on the other hand, Lovecraft worked hard to break out of that mindset later in life. He really tried to change his way of thinking and even married a Jewish woman. Really, recognizing racism and trying to be less racist in the days before the Civil Rights movement is kind of saying a lot for a historical figure.

EDIT: People are replying to this post like my point was “don’t hate the fact that Lovecraft was racist he did nothing wrong” when the actual point was “no one gives a shit that he was racist because he was a weak-ass pussy and hardly anyone took him seriously, including his own fans”.

Even if he didnt’ change his mindset, the people who enjoy and read his stories today aren’t doing so because of racism. They like grisly, dark, eldritch horrors and some even want to fuck the monsters Lovecraft intended to instill terror and fear. That alone should tell you he failed to make more racism.

- The man would seem to have your pattern solved; helping you through your attacks as you helped him. You assisted each other through the walk of life.

- Of course he had his own struggles; Arthur’s Pseudobulbar affect, almost a daily issue. But after such rough draining days he comes home and you lay in each other’s arms comforting one another

- When joker comes out, that’s when the coin completely flips- if someone bullies you, looks at you the wrong way or even lays a hand on you, he’ll make sure to teach them a good hard lesson

- Joker will stick up for you in every way possible even if it leads to some blood being spilt, he won’t care one bit

- When you are feeling self conscious about yourself, or the way you are, and the way your condition affects you he’ll make the effort in to make sure you feel good, ravish you wildly and take you where you stand
