The Elemental Dragons

Okay, so everyone knows that the elemental dragons haven’t been used for a while (Season 8 was when they stopped if I remember correctly). The usual explanation is just that the writers forgot or thought they made the ninja too powerful. But! What if the ninja can’t use them? The dragons are all about facing your insecurities and problems then accepting them, but they’ve all been earning enough trauma over the years that they aren’t able to do that anymore. It’s all been piling up until the dragons began to refuse their call.

I noticed this a while ago and just forgot to post it, but whenever somebody tries to manipulate Kai or tell him what he doesn’t want to hear he’ll squeeze his eyes shut and sometimes turn away and I honestly really like that trait

So.. is there like a canon reason why he’s still obsessed with being the green ninja after all these years? I’ve always just assumed that it’s because he died and is now forever stuck in the mindset he had when it happened with no chance of ever growing and becoming more than he had been. But let me know if there’s an actual reason that’s been stated either in the show or by the creators.
