Autism Self-Diagnosis Masterpost

Questioning if you might be autistic? Have you always known you were different and are trying to figure out why? Is professional diagnosis not an option for you (cost/stigma/bias/etc)? Then here is a list of resources to help you figure out if you are autistic.

This post is broken up into categories of resources based on subject matter. Some links may contain ableism and medicalized language but if they do they also have useful information which is why they were posted.

Self-diagnosis is a long process of reading and researching and self-reflection. A decision should not be made overnight. However, it is completely valid to self-diagnose as autistic (see the second to last section for more on this). If you are self-diagnosing, read as much as you can written by autistic people. Read their blogs and their tumblrs. Read about the autistic experience. Talk to autistic people if you are able to.

If you have questions, feel free to submit them to @askaboutautism, a blog run by autistics to answer questions about autism.

What were the main court cases we need to know? I know ones like Brown VBoard, RoeVWade, MarburyVMadison and that SupCourt Justice John Marshall from the late 18th to early 19th century was v impt. Anything else about judiciary stuff?

dred scott v. sandford (1857): establishes that slaves are property and have no rights (now viewed as a horrific mistake)

miranda v. arizona (1966): established rights of the accused (“you have the right to remain silent,” etc., also known as the miranda rights)

korematsu vs. u.s. (1944): ruled that japanese interment was legal (like the dred scott case, now viewed as terrible)

reynolds v. sims (1964): redistricted voting districts so that higher-population areas (read: areas more likely to have poor people/immigrants/poc) were equally represented in state legislatures, rather than being represented based on land area. the theory behind this is “one man, one vote”

gideon v. wainwright (1963): established that all accused have the right to a public defender

plessy v. ferguson (1896): ruled “separate but equal” things for black people were legal. overturned by brown v. board of ed

also, you definitely need to know that earl warren was the supreme court chief justice from 1953-1969 and that he was the force behind all those important ones during the 50s and 60s. very progressive dude. thurgood marshall was the first black justice, sandra day o'connor was the first woman. that’s all the major supreme court stuff i can think of!

Scout history ~ information

yeah the boy scouts allowing trans boys in is great! but don’t forget that girl scouts have allowed (and encouraged!) trans girls joining since forever and that girl scouts was created in DIRECT opposition to boy scouts as a liberal and feminist organization to symbolize a big fuck you to the gross, conservative misogynist organization that boy scouts was (and continue to be)

Thursday, May 4, 2k17: EXAM TIPS

4. May is AP Exam season! What are your tips for studying for tests?

May Study challenge by nkbstudies

So here in Canada, we don’t have AP at every school and our exams are at the end of June. BUT, I have picked up a few tips.

1. Make review sheets at the end of each unit. By the end of the semester, these will pile up and you can look back @ summaries of the entire year. Here’s a quick way to create one, s/o to my Math teacher.

Thursday, May 4, 2k17: EXAM TIPS

2. Flash cards. Ofc this one is obvious, BUT instead of just defining the term, try to get the term by the definition, work backwards!

3. Clean/organize/create a new layout for your study. This’ll help to not only distract you but motivate you bc everything will look nice now. It’ll also give your brain a new place to work at.

4. Practice Worksheets. A lot of you like to rewrite your notes (and so do I!) but another thing that is similar and works well is creating mini worksheets and working on them whenever you can. Whenever I know that I’m going to get these say like four questions wrong, I would make worksheets of about 10 questions and add these ones in them, sometimes worded differently. I do them whenever I have a spare moment, such as on the way home, during lunch break, at homeroom. This forces me to think and eventually causes me to remember them. Try to pick problems that you know for SURE are on the test!

(Not really Fandom ideas but)

1) FISH

(Like the ones in the ocean)

2) IDK if you'd consider folklore an inspiration, but this is such a lovely story (Lithuanian) so: there is this mermaid jurate who is heartbroken and her tears become of amber. Also large blocks of amber from her palace wash up on the shore.

Good luck with your expanded interests! All your art is gorgeous!

out of curiosity, is there a fandom / subject you’d ever want to see me draw? trying to expand my interests and stuff ✍️❤️👍

Important bee discourse ↑↑↑

Is using honey bad? It would be hard for me to give that up because I love it so much.

16 oz of honey requires 1152 bees to travel 112,000 miles and visit 4.5 million flowers.

Most of the honey we get at supermarkets and stores don’t come from natural hives.

Honey is an animal product, produced when bees digest nectar they have collected and then regurgitate it. It is an animal product, just like an egg or milk. Yes, a bee is an insect and not technically considered an animal by many people, but a bee’s body changes the composition of what it ingests, just like other animals. However, there is another reason vegans won’t eat honey, and that is because it is harmful to another living creature. According to Daniel Hammer, bees do experience pain and suffering while they are being exploited for their products (not just honey but also beeswax, royal jelly, and more). There is simply no way beekeepers, humane or otherwise, can avoid harming or killing bees while they are extracting the bees’ products. Many vegans choose their lifestyle because they wish to avoid harming any other creature, and so they choose not to eat honey.

Check out this couple of articles that are pretty complete about everything around this topic :)

Why Honey is Not Vegan?

3 Reasons Not to Eat Honey > This one explain about the environmental damage and how we are killing the bees.
