Me, a gay, doing anything

is that last comic you posted about a suicide note? I'm confused

One of the rituals from Victorian era’s cult of mourning: if a close loved one died, you’d order yourself some black bordered calling cards, note paper and envelopes. Your border’s width would be determined by how close you were to the deceased, how long you’d been in mourning, and how ostentatious you wanted to be.

Even newspapers followed this etiquette:

Anyway, to answer your question, I doubt it. Unless the guy’s brother was a big stickler for etiquette, pretty full of himself, or had a dark sense of humor, I don’t think you’d mail your own suicide note in a mourning envelope. And in that case it wouldn’t be a very funny comic.

(As an aside, in some places you couldn’t actually mail letters with full mourning borders. They were said to be easier to tamper with; edges could be cut and then coloured with dark ink, so ones that were tinted rather than full-black were also sold).

I’m pretty sure the joke is just that the guy isn’t very smart, and thinks the black border + the brother’s handwriting means his brother must be dead. Really his brother is just in mourning for someone else.

so Paradise California is gone

i haven’t seen any noise about this on tumblr yet, but a fire has completely wiped out a small town in california.

they’re calling it the camp fire. over 20,000 residents have been evacuated so far, the last area estimates i heard were over an hour ago at 18,000 acres and its still zero percent contained.

this is the smoke from about 18 miles away from the fire three hours ago. if you know anyone near chico, paradise, oroville or durham california you might want to check they’re okay

california fires

I’m okay. The fire hasn’t reached me but I can see it from my balcony. I don’t think it’s going to get over here.

I moved out of the area that’s burning a few years ago. My elementary school is burning down on the news. 

My heart aches for Thousand Oaks and Agoura Hills, the towns I grew up in. First a mass shooting and then a disastrous fire in less than 24 hours. This is just too surreal.

Sending so much love to the families who lost their homes. I can only imagine what they’re going through.

The NEWTS had been passed, they had celebrated Draco’s birthday, and now the much expected Snake Masquerade was upon them. Pansy and Draco had been dancing around in the common room all afternoon while they were getting ready. Draco was very dashing in his formal wear, his hair slicked back. Theo didn’t say it, but he thought Lucius would have been very proud to see him like that. Or he would have raged up a storm about his choice of date.

For now, though, Draco was messing around with the Barklay the Slyhterin Skeleton. (No one knew how it had ended up in their common room, it had appeared somewhere around their fifth year and had never left. Someone had named it Barclay, and it had become their secret mascot.)

“That’s a fire hazard, Draco,” Daphne Greengrass commented, adjusting her date’s, Millicent Bulstrode, corsage.

Draco shrugged and waltz up to Theo. “I like your mask. It suits you,” he commented.

Theo smiled and together they headed out to the Great Hall.

Are you named after anyone? Nope! My parents just wanted a one-syllable name and, fun fact, they wanted it to be unisex so i wouldn’t get discriminated against on resumes.

When was the last time you cried? idk. recently.

Do you have any kids? HAHAHAHHAHAH i am 18. No thank God. Though I often call the theatre kids I work with my kids lmao

Do you use sarcasm a lot? Less in recent years, but still fairly often.

What’s the first thing you notice about people? I don’t know. Maybe whether or not they appear friendly. Like if they look angry or if they’re smiling or whatever.

Eye color? Hazel

Scary movie or happy ending? Literally FUCK scary movies.

Any special talents? I mean I can sing and play some instruments and I did stand-up for years which I wasn’t terrible at.

Hobbies? Writing and music mostly

Do you have any pets? two dogs and a tortoise none of whom i have seen since august :(

What sports do you/have you played? like, all of them. I played soccer for 11-ish years, basketball for 7-ish, karate for 6-ish, softball/baseball for 8-ish, volleyball for 3, flag football for a season… I was actually a really sporty kid. I don’t do any anymore though so.

Favorite subject in school? Theatre!
