Hear me out-

A Muppet’s Midsummer Night’s Dream

Theseus, Hippolyta, Lysander, Hermia, Helena and Demetrius are all esteemed Shakespearean actors who keep to the original script, whilst all the fairies and some of the mechanicals are muppets muppeting about with the occasional soliloquy.

I present to you my vision:

Gonzo as Oberon

Hear Me Out-

Believe me when I tell you Gonzo has RANGE. I think his background as an alien will help him embody the more mystical elements of Oberon and we know from his performance as the narrator in a Muppets Christmas Carol he’s a natural leading man.

Rizzo as Puck

Hear Me Out-

Name a more iconic duo than Gonzo and Rizzo the rat? You can’t- of course you fucking can’t. Their chemistry is off the charts, celestial dare I say, platonic soulmates the like of which us mere mortals cannot comprehend. On top of the incredible back and forth they’ll bring to Oberon and Puck, Rizzo has a sense of mischief and is just the right amount of a whimsy can’t do nothing right boy to bring a really endearing vision of Puck to the stage.

Miss Piggy as Titania

Hear Me Out-

Is it controversial to pair up Miss Piggy with someone who’s not her usual leading man? Sure, but bear with me I have a vision. Oberon and Titania are at odds for most of the play and I can definitely see a world in which Miss Piggy beats his ass in front of all the other fairies. Also the role of a glamorous ethereal queen? Are you kidding? Miss Piggy is going to body this role heart and soul.

Kermit as Bottom

Hear Me Out-

Remember when I told you to bear with me? I would never break up a duo like Kermit and his beloved Miss Piggy, are you mad? Bottom and Titania spend the whole play smooching and mucking about with the fairies, not only do these two have the chemistry but it also gives Miss Piggy a chance to serenade her beloved Kermie. The casting also works on a meta level with Kermit playing an over ambitious actor somewhat hemmed in by an eccentric troupe. The only question is with the iconic transformation scene, do we cast a human actor who turns into Kermit, or do we just have regular ole Kermit with some donkey ears? I need the thoughts of the public desperately.

The Mechanicals:

Fozzie Bear as Snug

Hear Me Out-

Waka, waka

Beaker as Francis Flute

Hear Me Out-

Literally his worst nightmare is playing Thisbe.

Pepe the Prawn as Robin Starveling

Hear Me Out-

Just a weird lil guy pretending to be moonlight

Bunsen as Tom Snout

Hear Me Out-

Tom Snouts a tinker- plus he can do Pyramus and Thisbe’s special effects

Scooter as Peter Quince

Hear Me Out-

Typical theatre manager energy.

The Fairies:

The Chickens as Titania’s Attendants

Hear Me Out-

To be honest I can see the Henson company making a lot of cool original puppets for the fairies but you can’t have the muppets without some dancing chickens.

Janice and Animal should also get special cameos as Peaseblossom and Mustardseed respectively and naturally Waldorf and Statler show up to heckle Pyramus and Thisbe at the end.

Disney- make it happen

Coming back to this because these are all the other musicals that should be recast with muppets:

1. Rent

Everyone is a muppet except the evil landlord, self explanatory, done. (I don’t know enough about rent to cast this one tbh but I think Scooter would be an excellent mark)

2. The Phantom of the Opera

The count is the phantom (join me in a fantasy world where the muppets and Sesame Street gang cross over- or it could also just be Gonzo I guess I like the idea of him as a homewrecker) miss piggy is Christine, kermit is raoul and the only humans are Meg and her mother. Additional cast members could be scooter as the stage manager, per the usual, Fozzie Bear as that one Italian opera singer but instead of singing he just wants to tell his jokes, Gonzo as Carlotta in a wig and statler and Waldorf as themselves heckling the opera

3. Jesus Christ Superstar

Hear me out ok, this one may be controversial, but miss piggy is Jesus, the slightly jaded, undeniable star of the show, and kermit is Judas, undeniably in love with her, but tired of her hogging the spotlight and feels she’s turned her back on what the muppets are really about. Beaker is Peter because he also looks like he would nope out when shit goes down and deny miss piggy, and Mary Magdalene should be played by renowned Broadway actress Philips Sousa because I just think that would be really cool if she hasn’t already played that role

4. Sweeney Todd

In which the animal plays unhinged sweeney todd, judge Turpin is Sam the eagle, miss piggy is Johanna, kermit is Anthony, and miss Lovett is played by Janice, who while I think lacks the manic energy needed for the role, would be a good chilled out foil to animal and bring a new flavour to the character of the crazy character who’s so deluded they make their actions seem almost sane

5. Little Shop of Horrors

I’m sorry I know I keep casting them as the two leads but kermit and miss piggy were born to play Audrey and Seymour, it is a pair that cannot be topped. The only change this makes to the original is that we all know miss piggy takes no shit so I think the stuff with the dentist (still played by Steve Martin because you can’t improve upon perfection) is a misinterpretation and she actually beats the ever living shit out of him for disrespecting her. Rizzo the rat should play the slimey businessman who buys Audrey Two, Statler and Waldorf are collectively mr mushnik, the chorus should also be human but I think the piece de resistance would be the Swedish chef as Audrey two and all the world is his chicken, and all the world should be deeply, deeply, afraid.

Tell me in the comments if I missed anyone or you have any casting ideas yourself!!

This has definitely been pitched before, but petition for a remake of les miserables where everyone is a muppet except Javert

If you need a reminder we’re in the darkest timeline look no further than the outline of the adaption of into the woods we could have had back in the 90s

If You Need A Reminder We’re In The Darkest Timeline Look No Further Than The Outline Of The Adaption

This version also would have had all the creatures in the movie played by puppets made by the Jim Henson company.

this is really hard to read, but it's true. Disney has sucked the soul out of the muppets. the performers have been trying to put it back, but every time they do they are thwarted by this stupid fucking corporation. fuck you disney

Screenshot of selected excerpts from an Interview between Frank Oz and The Guardian that reads :

Frank Oz, the legendary co-creator of the Muppet Show and Sesame Street characters, has not worked on either show since 2007, nearly 14 years ago. “I’d love to do the Muppets again but Disney doesn’t want me, and Sesame Street hasn’t asked me” The 77 year old told the Guardian. “They don’t want me because I won’t follow orders and I won’t do the kind of Muppets they believe in”.

“The soul’d not there” anymore, he admitted. “The soul is what makes things grow and be funny. But I miss them and love them.”

“There’s an inability for corporate America to understand the value of something they bought.” He explained. “They never understood, with us, it’s not just about the puppets, it’s about the performers who love each other and have worked together for many years.”

“Eisner was trying to get Sesame Street, too, which Jim wouldn’t allow,” he recalled, “but Jim was not a dealer, he was an artist, and it was destroying him, it really was. The Disney deal is probably what killed Jim. It made him sick.”

When Frank Oz spoke of Jim Henson, it was like they had convinced themselves that they were actually brothers. In The Guardian feature, he said that he has lived in New York since he was 19. “Ever since Jim asked me to come here to work with him on The Muppets.” He has often described himself as the real Fozzie Bear to Jim Henson’s Kermit the Frog.

“People don’t understand, anyone can do a voice”, he said. “It’s not the voice — it’s the soul”

this makes me want to throw up and cry and scream and punch a wall

“ What I’m Against Is People’s Thinking Puppets Are Exclusively For Children. We’ve Directed

“ What I’m against is people’s thinking puppets are exclusively for children. We’ve directed our work mostly towards adults, and historically puppets have often been for adults. It’s only fairly recently that puppets have been pushed into strictly children’s areas. As a theater form, puppetry can do virtually anything.”

Okay, okay. If anyone is looking for an idea for a Sam and Max animatic, I got just the thing for ya!

Sam and Max animatics using the audio of the Wilkins Coffee commercials! Sam as Wontkins, Max as Wilkins! (Max definitely fits the part considering how well he’s known for being cartoonishly violent and he definitely has a caffeine addiction!)

Also, a few of the commercials have moments where the puppets crossdress, one even being Wilkins as Wontkins’s “wife” no less!

This too good of an idea NOT to use! Please, take it! I’m not confident enough to be a youtuber!

I finally was able to watch “Jim Henson Idea Man”

I adored it omg. I’m such a huge fan of the muppets and the other creations of Jim Henson and look up to him so much as a creator. It’s amazing to know that there were/are other people out there who feel like their time is going by just too quickly to be able to create everything they want to. No matter how much time I get, the things I create with that time, no matter if they change the world or not, are worth it.

That said, here’s the sketchbook page I filled while watching the documentary!

I Finally Was Able To Watch “Jim Henson Idea Man”

I wrote down some of my favorite quotes, but I know my handwriting isn’t always legible.

“The fact that he did Sesame Street instead of a series of nightclubs”

“Gretl is back from the moon!”

“Train of thought editing.”

“I’ve learned to walk around in my own head. That may sound silly to you but it’s been very, very helpful to me.”

“He wasn’t scared of dying… he believed there was something else there.”

“He wasn’t a musician but he thought like one.”

All that aside, thoughts on the funky puppet guy who takes up the bottom half of the page? Hair or no hair?

42 years ago, the "Mother of Yoda" conquered Hollywood — then she vanished
You might not recognize the name Wendy Froud (née Midener), but in the practical effects world, she’s a legend. Her work even earned her one of pop culture’s greatest monikers: the Mother of Yoda.

“Despite what history may tell you, this long-haired, aetherial puppeteer with a Fleetwood Mac aesthetic played a crucial role in the birth of animatronics, providing the puppet design for groundbreaking films The Empire Strikes Back, The Dark Crystal, and Labyrinth. A Froud original can go for $4,500, and her work even earned her one of pop culture’s greatest monikers: the Mother of Yoda.“

….

“The beginning of Froud’s film career was also the start of a new chapter in her personal life. Jim Henson met British illustrator Brian Froud while filming The Muppet Show in 1977 and eventually recruited him to work on The Dark Crystal. Brian and Wendy met while making the movie, married shortly after, and returned with son Toby in tow for Labyrinth. Toby Froud, who played the striped-pajama-clad baby abducted by David Bowie’s Goblin King, would later work with his parents on Netflix’s Dark Crystal prequel series, Age of Resistance, as Design Supervisor almost four decades later.”

The history of the Muppets and Disney in 4.5 minutes! (1989 to today)

This is a very fast paced video, so you can slow it down to .75 if needed.

Have you ever wondered why or how Disney acquired the Muppets? Have you wondered why the Muppets have been MIA for the past few years? Fear not! I have created this short break down just for you!

Would you consider signing the Change petition to save the Muppets Vision 3D? https://chng.it/2NT4hgg9bz

I just watched the new Jim Henson documentary…

Overall it was very good, well paced, great visuals and editing. I learned a lot about Jim Henson and the company that I didn’t before and more behind the scenes that I hadn’t seen/heard which is always a treat!

I cried three times. 🫣👌 I had to fight the primal urge to pause the documentary and point out to my family where and what movie/show/episode every clip was from. This was my “did you know Viggo Mortensen actually broke his toe” scene.

I will say, I do think they very QUICKLY went over the disney merger and didn’t even mention the fallout with Disney after Jim’s death.

———————

The main problem I had was that SOME puppeteers got spot lights, interviews or arrows pointing out the individuals. And while I appreciate that these individuals got some recognition (which they 100% should), I think the documentary should have been consistent and do this with every new important/fundamental puppeteer to the film.

I Just Watched The New Jim Henson Documentary…

I alreay have!!! I was able to EASILY point out Karen Prell, Louise Gold, Richard Hunt, Jerry Nelson, Kevin Clash, Steve whitmire, etc. But an average viewer wouldn’t know who is who and what they contributed to the company!

I just think it’s intriguing who they chose to highlight and who they left out.

And I’ve noticed this happen in other muppet documentaries, like “Street Gang,” where they barely glossed over Richard Hunt and Jerry Nelson’s contributions to the show. (I’ve mentioned this problem here before. (Queer erasure during pride month? 🙄))

It would be such an easy problem to fix! Just a quick arrow to point out any new puppeteer or cast member to the Jim Henson Company. Maybe list their job/their characters so a main stream audience could identify them.

I can think of several founding members who are still alive today that were not interviewed. Maybe these people were asked to come in, IDK, but I would have loved to hear from more people you don’t hear from often.

I could definitely tell the documentary was really trying to avoid the “Steve Whitmire” sized elephant in the room, even though he was in SO MANY shots. I can guarantee that if he was still with the company he would have been featured heavily in the documentary.

———————

One last thing…

They interviewed Michael Frith, where was my girl Kathryn Mullen?? (His wife.) She hasn’t done anything in over a decade, are you okay?? Blink if you need help. 👁️👄👁️😐😑😐😑

Fraggle Rock fans pls help🥺

Fraggle Rock Fans Pls Help🥺

I saw this image when I was online looking for Fraggle Rock merch to buy when I saw this design on sweat pants (hot topic).

I think all the images represents a character, and I'm stumped on a few of them.

I wanted help trying to identify what character is represented by which image!

Here's what guess I have so far:

The two helmets are doozers (idk if anyone specific, it's not Carter Pin)

Calculator, IDK (maybe Doc?)

Axe? IDK

Wrench, there is a Doozers named Wrench, but idk.

Pencil, maybe Carter Pin because she is an architect.

Shoes, I think they are Junior Gorg's. The fraggle don't wear shoes and the Doozers have yellow boots. It's gotta be Junior. (Maaaaaayybe if you squint it could be Doc.)

Guitar, definitely Gobo.

Bongos, I think this is Wembley, because he sings a song "here to there" in one of the first episodes and he plays bongos. But other than that I'm not sure who it could be.

Glasses, 100% The Trash Heap 🗑️

Cantus' magic pipe

The Pan flute, I have no idea.

Banana tree shirt. Take a wild guess. He's green and likes to wemble.

The flowers, I'm not sure for this one. But if I had to guess, probably Mokey.

Bows, Red. 🎀🎀

Hat, Boober my beloved 😚

Finally the Maracas, I have no damn clue.

So I don't know/not sure about 1-6, 8, 11, 13, 16.

Please help! I wanna know who they are I'm sorry I'm such a fake fan 😩😔🥲😭

Forgive me Fraggle five 🙏🙇‍♀️

Edit: someone pointed out the shoes might be traveling Matt!
