Loved this one and read about it. Working on the illustration was very relaxing and came out nicely. While working on the head, I was getting slightly confused but in the end, it was all good. I hope you enjoy the sheet as much as I did studying this mysterious and relatively new species. (When I say relatively new is because not so long ago it wasn't classified as a species). Mountain Gorilla I spent a lot of time searching for the right pose to depict this animal. It's so well-known and loved that I wanted to ensure I captured all its splendor. I believe I did a great job, but it was tough to decide. The drawing process was very challenging, especially since apes' facial characteristics are very human-like and convey the same spirit as ours through their eyes and expressions—a process I enjoyed thoroughly. I hope to one day see them in their natural habitat. Nowadays, they are a tourist attraction since this species cannot be kept in zoos. Interestingly, this situation forces governments to enforce laws protecting them, as they contribute significantly to the country's economy. My artwork featuring all equine species and subspecies is now available in my store. It's been about a year since I began working on horses, so it's satisfying to see it completed. Although they are a well-known and beloved family, there are still some discrepancies among biologists. Questions persist, such as whether the extinct Tarpan should be classified as a species or not, and even the classification of domestic and feral horses. Moreover, it's concerning that four subspecies of this family are already extinct.

Southern African Lion Panthera leo melanochaita Family: Felidae Genus: Panthera Conservation Status: Vulnerable

Before 2016, approximately a dozen subspecies of lions were officially recognized. However, after conducting more thorough assessments and further studies, scientists ultimately concluded that there are only two distinct subspecies. North American Cougar Puma concolor couguar Family: Felidae Genus: Puma Conservation Status: Least Concern This feline stands out as one of the world's most versatile adaptors, thriving across diverse habitats in the Americas. Originally, multiple subspecies were designated due to this adaptability, but now only two remain valid: the North American and the larger South American variant.

Its fur displays variations based on habitat, becoming denser in colder regions and lighter in deserts or warmer zones. While not classified among the big cat species, it shares the closest kinship with the cheetah.

More animals to come soon. South Central Balck Rhinoceros Among the contemporary rhino species, the Black Rhino is considered to be the best adapted to the new world. It stands out as one of the oldest, most stable, and most widely distributed among the modern rhinoceros species. Unfortunately, human actions have significantly threatened their previous success and led to a decline in their populations.

African Forest Elephant Loxodonta cyclotis Family: Elephantidae Genus: Loxodonta Subspecies: 00 Feed: Herbivorous Habitat: Monsoon Forest Status and Conservation: Endangered This unique elephant species is the smallest of the three (2.4 meters), it boasts a disproportionately impressive tusk. Adapted for forest life, it has a compact frame, less curved tusks for easy navigation, and probably the most captivating feature is its distinct yellow eyes common in many of these animals.

However, their valuable tusks make them targets for ivory poaching. This endangered species is challenging to study due to its remote habitat. Full body illustration and extended explanation join here: Discovering Club

As you might already know, I am working on illustrating all the world's mammals, including subspecies. I've created over 200 realistic illustrations and counting. I've been exploring ways to promote my work, and as you're aware, I've established a club for this purpose. Among the options, I conceived the idea of an EAlbum to collect digital stickers featuring animal illustrations.

I want to be honest with you—while the EAlbum isn't exactly as I envisioned, it reflects the extent of my programming knowledge. In the future, I hope to implement the complete dynamics of a sticker album, allowing people to swap, buy, and sell stickers. For now, subscribing club members will receive four stickers each month to add to the album.

The album provides key animal information such as family, genus, and conservation status. The inaugural album focuses on the Perissodactyla order (Rhinos, Tapirs, and Horses), but as the project progresses, more albums featuring various animal families will follow. Donkey Equus africanus asinus

Family: Equidae Genus: Equus Subspecies: 04

Feed: Herbivore Habitat: All Around the World Status and Conservation: Data Deficient The donkey—a truly remarkable creature—is often subject to mistreatment and disrespect. It's unfairly linked to notions of being "dumb" due to its strong-willed nature. When a donkey chooses not to obey a command, no force can sway its decision. However, this behavior doesn't signify stupidity; rather, it reflects their rebellious spirit. Call me Domkey from now on! I will carry that nickname with pride. Wanna see the full-body illustration? Amur leopard This leopard inhabits cold environments, which necessitates denser and thicker fur, making it, in my opinion, the most beautiful of all eight subspecies of leopards. It is classified as critically endangered, and its population is estimated to be just over 100 individuals. Przewalski's Horse Equus ferus przewalskii Family: Equidae Genus: Equus Subspecies: 03 Feed: Herbivorous Habitat: Temperate Steppe Status and Conservation: Critically Endangered This is the only remaining species of wild horse. The other two wild horse species have already become extinct. One of them is the Tarpan (which was mentioned in a previous post), and the other is the European Wild Horse, which went extinct during the Pleistocene era. The other horses that roam in the wild are considered feral, which means they were once domesticated horses that have reverted to a wild state.

The Przewalski Horse was also extinct in the wild at one point. However, thanks to various breeding programs and the efforts of different zoos, it has been successfully reintroduced to its natural habitat in Mongolia and China. Love this one! More from the Felidae family. The turn now is for the biggest in America. Jaguar At first glance, Jaguars and Leopards are not so easy to differentiate. They are like two brothers. One's appearance, the leopard, looks more graceful and stylized. While the Jaguar has a more bulky body and its legs are shorter. One is agile while the other one is made to wrestle. However, the biggest difference is that the leopard lives in Africa, Asia, and Oceania, while the Jaguar is found in America. The South African Giraffe is the last member of the giraffe family I've been studying, and it's been quite an adventure. While I still struggle to identify some of the subspecies, I feel confident in recognizing most of them.

South African Giraffe

The South African Giraffe, also known as the Cape Giraffe, is a fascinating subspecies with a population of approximately 37,000 individuals. Interestingly, it was once extinct in some of its native areas in Southern Africa, but thanks to reintroduction efforts, its population has seen an impressive 150% increase. This is certainly good news for this subspecies, which is now a common resident in zoos, private farms, and ranches around the world.

With its distinctive coat pattern of cream-colored patches with orange-brown edges, the South African Giraffe is a unique and beautiful animal. While habitat loss, poaching, and trophy hunting continue to threaten their populations, conservation efforts are helping to protect these magnificent creatures for future generations to enjoy.

Today we are going to start with a family that is loved by many. Is not my cup of tea but I have learned about them and they are indeed fascinating. The equines. Domestic Horse

The domestication of horses is believed to occurred around 4000 to 3500 BCE, possibly in what is today Kazakhstan. However, there is some debate among experts about the exact time and location of horse domestication, as evidence of early horse domestication is limited and sometimes difficult to interpret. It is generally agreed, however, that horses were first domesticated for their meat, milk, and hides, and that they were later used for transportation, agriculture, and warfare.

There are numerous breeds of domestic horses, which are classified into three categories: Hot Blood, Cold Blood, and Warm Blood. These majestic creatures have played a crucial role in human evolution. The horse was one of the first animals to be domesticated, and their partnership with humans has allowed us to travel greater distances, carry heavy loads, cultivate crops with greater efficiency, and conquer the world. In short, without the taming of horses, we would not have been able to achieve the level of progress and development that we have today. It is also a very recurrent animal in art as we have seen it in many paintings and sculptures throughout history. It is commonly connected with strength, power, speed, and freedom. I finished the tapir's family. I had contemplated including the Kabomani Tapir, supposedly a new species discovered a few years ago. However, after conducting extensive research, I found insufficient credible evidence to support its classification as a distinct species. Nevertheless, I did uncover information confirming the existence of four subspecies of Lowland Tapir. Some studies suggest that a black tapir photographed in Malaysia may represent a new species of tapir, yet most scientists contend that it is simply a melanistic variation of the Malayan Tapir. As these examples illustrate, animal classification is not always clear-cut. Therefore, I will continue to study this fascinating animal family and keep abreast of any new developments.

Nile Hippopotamus It is a common misconception that hippos cannot swim. However, rather than "walking" underwater, hippos are able to swim by using their powerful legs to propel themselves forward and their webbed feet to steer. So while they may not look as graceful as some other aquatic animals, hippos are actually quite adept at swimming. The Hippopotamus is a genus comprising three subspecies. This is one of them. I'm tired of drawing giraffes, but fortunately, I only have one more left to finish. After that, I'm excited to move on to drawing the Okapi, and once the family will be complete. Awesome!

Angolan Giraffe

The Angolan Giraffe, also known as the Namibian Giraffe, is native to southern Africa, specifically Namibia, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Angola. These giraffes have a unique coat pattern with irregular rusty brown patches on a whitish or light beige skin. Males have a distinctive bulk in the forefront.

There have been studies suggesting that the two surviving populations, one in the north and one in the south, may be different subspecies, but this conclusion has not yet been universally accepted within the scientific community. We set out to cover the entire tapir family, but there's a debate about including the Kabomani Tapir. This newly discovered species hasn't been validated by all studies yet. Family: Tapiridae Genus: Tapirus Conservation Status: Endangered Habitat: Mountain Forest Subspecies: 0 The Mountain Tapir, excluding the controversial Kabomani Tapir, is the smallest member of the tapir family. Unlike its tropical relatives, it thrives in chilly high-altitude environments within the Andes mountain range and is known for its thick, woolly coat. Unfortunately, decades of internal conflict in Colombia have both helped and hindered this species. While the instability has prevented hunting and habitat destruction in some regions, it has also made it difficult for researchers to study their habits and breeding patterns.

Despite the advantages and challenges presented by the conflict, the Mountain Tapir remains endangered. The species faces threats from hunting, habitat fragmentation, and the introduction of cattle. The current population of around 2,500 individuals may decline by 20% over the next 20 years, which is concerning given the species' already precarious situation.
