as a big time "they wouldn't fucking say that" enthusiast, i am glad those fics are written anyway.
i am currently reading a fic where mc is depicted starkingly ooc imo, in a way she seems the opposite of what she is in canon (imo). and i am having a good time bc of author's interpretation of the plot and real life facts integration.
depending on how many grey areas there are in your canon lore, anything other than canon might be ooc bc the characters wouldn't have an opportunity to do that. and as for being in line with canon behaviour - same person can act differently depending on outside factors, and people change, which is why there are long fanfics that start very "in character" but have little resemblance to the blorbo bingus towards the end.
sometimes a fic is worth overlooking ooc behaviour. sometimes it isn't for me as a reader - and then i close it and go on with my day, nothing bad happens, and if you had fun writing it (and other readers possibly had fun reading it), that what's matters! if you strive specifically to write them in character, you can always learn afterwards from a discussion in comments if you want to. if you don't care about ooc stuff in the first place, nobody can stop you.
tl;dr writing is cool and if you want to do it, you should
I have a lot of feelings about the rise of he would not fucking say that attitudes in fandom spaces and the paralysing effect it can have on creators. As a writer i think it’s important to just write what feels true to you and not what you think others will “approve” of. Like even as a reader i have enjoyed a variety of different characterisations that all work because the writer makes them work for a particular story. And a fic that’s written out of character to some will be in character to others. Writing fic is not your job you’re not being paid it’s your hobby please. Make them as close to canon as possible. Make them completely different. Who cares! Have fun! Have so much fun! There is an audience for every kind of fic and every kind of character interpretation i promise
personal notes (mood) to previous post under cut
i am awake for 27+ hours (willingly), had a good day at work and it's doing wonders to my mood despite a sad and lowkey bizarre event earlier today. might draw more or go to sleep, idk will see how it'll go. feels a bit wrong but except that one event the day is really nice and i am both willing and able to do more. it is usually a bit stressful to draw new stuff, especially character i like and would like to portray good, but this one was just fun. i wish all-nighters weren't bad for health and incompatible with normal schedule
i made a fanart of your fanart >]
quick domestic strangeboss doodle
have you noticed how the title of boss in mgs is almost mocking, and those who have it are a tool of some forces they are unable to deny?
the boss has respect and obedience of people around her, such as strangelove and other researchers, snake, the cobras, volgin etc. but she earns it exactly by giving her all to whatever task she's assigned to, which were often harmful to her or suicidal. she clearly doesn't want to kill the sorrow or convince snake she's a traitor, and mb she didn't want to go to space and do other stuff either, but she either was blackmailed into those missions by threatening her child or thought it was her responsibility to tie up loose ends or smth. so, what leads to her being the boss is really extreme obedience, often contrary to her own interests.
when snake is "awarded" the title of big boss, it already looks like mockery as it is: he and you, the player, know there's not much heroism in killing the boss. i haven't played mg, mg2 and mgs4 yet, so this might be canonically disproven, but mgsv seems to me like it takes the extreme obedience even further: some organisation says "we're giving your identity to some other guy" and he's like "ok yay ❤️ 🚬🏍️". it is also notable how in portable ops and peace walker he fights people whose ideas he will directly adopt (nation of mercenaries and metal gear). of course he is the next legendary soldier and his followers respect and obey him, but it seems he earned that by fulfilling some organisation's plan (not in form of direct missions this time) with great skill and dedication. it was interesting to see his path from solo stealth operative to a leader in portable ops, and it does seem like people follow him bc of his field skills (and bc of being put in the brig) than management skills (although he is a charismatic leader).
if you replace "boss" with "tool" or "weapon", it makes just as much sense in terms of passing down the code name. their authority only exists among soldiers and scientists and pows and doesn't exist at all for the people who use them. and it seems that in metal gear when there is a super soldier, the government (or patriots or whoever else) is always training a new one that could kill them if needed. so, both people who get the codename get it after proving they can be made to do anything no matter how much they dislike it, which is ironic.
6 millers and one miller lips closeup in, i don't think i will make it to 50 lol
still worth it tho, having fun and already getting better at it (or so it seems)
i tried to go to femboy hooters but it was just this guy there and he'd only talk about the horrors of war has this happened to anyone else
a bit of line of action on the train. i picked 30 minutes but don't have time to finish it before arrival anyway, so the longest one is 6 minutes. l like drawing this smiling lady ever since i started doing this exercise, it brings me joy to be able to convey more and more of the beauty of her curvy body and sparkling smile as my skill develops.
i have looked up the tag to see if anyone has already drawn them being friends and/or lovers, thank you for delivering!
various substance doodles
took sleeping pills yesterday and had funny dreams, among them - having to draw miller on a chalkboard, struggling to draw his glasses for some time but only being able to draw o-o, and then abandoning the effort, lol. didn't even attempt to draw his face or figure
