Yiling Laozu - THE NECROMANCER

Today on quiet, understated TGCF moments that nevertheless wreck me every single time:

image

As [Qi Rong] spoke he leaned back into that ornate chair, lifted his feet and rested his boots on the shoulders of that stone statue, treating it as a footstool.

Xie Lian was still holding Hua Cheng’s arm, and, feeling him take a slight step forwards, pulled him back. But he felt pulling him wasn’t enough, and so on the palm of his hand again traced a single word: “thank you”.

The quiet, gentle gratitude here, the understanding, just undoes me. Xie Lian pulls him back but doesn’t trace out ‘wait’ or ‘stop’ or ‘careful’. Nor does he trace out any version or abbreviation of his usual ‘it’s okay’ or ‘it’s not that bad’ or ‘it really doesn’t matter’.

Instead, he says thank you. And in that word is not just the thanks itself but the acknowledgement of what Hua Cheng is doing. It’s Xie Lian–who didn’t understand Hua Cheng’s fury at the scorpion-tailed snake that bit him, or at himself for wounding him–conveying in a word that he knows why Hua Cheng is stepping forward, why Hua Cheng is angry.

And for once he doesn’t dismiss it. He brushes off so many things with a smile and an it’s okay, it’s not that bad, but here? Here, he says thank you. And in doing so, implicitly allows that there is something to thank Hua Cheng for, and thus that there is something here that, on some level, hurts. And that even if he is holding Hua Cheng back from truly avenging or protecting him, he is accepting the gesture.

It’s thank you for stepping forward to defend rather than all the times people have stepped forward towards Xie Lian to attack. It’s thank you for seeing this as an offence rather than joining in the ridicule. It’s thank you for… feeling, on Xie Lian’s behalf, things Xie Lian doesn’t allow himself to feel, and thus letting him have that moment of something like catharsis, that moment of seeing someone else’s horror or anger at what has been done to him, rather than hiding it all behind a gentle smile.

It’s thank you for a gesture that feels like Hua Cheng’s defence of General Hua in the cave. It’s thank you for a gesture that feels like a bamboo hat in the rain.

And all of this is leaving aside the fact that he’s technically also, with that word, tracing out half of his own name onto Hua Cheng’s palm.

What was it like for Hua Cheng to touch his god for the first time?

Soft hands saving him, holding him close as blades clashed and a demon was struck down. Wu-Ming was careful, distant, a newborn ghost still adjusting to a new form. Just the idea of reaching out made him tremble.

But Hua Cheng, Crimson Rain Sought Flower, is settled and powerful yet the brief slip of Xie Lians finger on his wrist feels like fire to his warm skin. A thoughtless pull on his sleeve guiding him to look on the cart.

Did he trace it for days afterwards? He’s such a creature of devotion and habit, (rolling the pearl, twining the loose red strings, the same poem until the characters blur) did pressing on the spot on his wrist get added to the list? Swears he can still feel the heat—

Did he trace his lips when Xie Lian left him on the beach? Did he feel every point they pressed from the coffin long after it collapsed? And when they fell into an open volcano and his god was snatched from him (again!) did the lingering warmth on his palm feel like a betrayal?

And when the lanterns fly and he returns home, did a year of distance make him sensitive or was it the rush of first love beating in a dead man’s chest?

Will he ever grow used to Xie Lians warmth is a non starter; what he wishes for is that the novelty of it will never leave him.

🙃 There Are Some Things Wei Wuxian Would Never Say To His Past Self. That Doesn't Change The Fact

🙃 There are some things Wei Wuxian would never say to his past self. That doesn't change the fact that they are things he needs to hear.

It's definitely not a one to one translation, and it's not that representative of the fic as a whole, but this was *heavily* inspired by a scene in yiqie's fic The flower that withers.

Smoochies For Lan Zhan ~

Smoochies for Lan Zhan ~ <333 (drawn in 2023)

One of my favorite things about mxtx couples being put in a modern/no magic AU setting is how absolutely unhinged their actions would be considered

Hualian consists of some guy that was famous as a child/young adult before falling off hard and some guy that idolized him as a 10 year old only to start stalking and pining for him from afar for years afterwards. The stalker manages to score a friendship with this guy, constantly hangs around him and helps him, and once his red flags are discovered the guy is so chill about it. Even into it

Wangxian starts off more normal. Two guys that are sort of frenemies in high school with one being the suppressed good boy type and the other being your typical troublemaker. The troublemaker goes from being a bad influence to a straight up war criminal even if he’s lowkey in the right for it. Whenever he gets out of jail he goes right back to doing war crimes and instead of stopping him, the good boy protects and even joins him in his war crimes

Bingqiu is this teenager with a massive crush on his fresh out of college, no idea what he’s doing, teacher who was never really supposed to be a teacher, he just ended up here. Everything is chill until the week of final exams he gets expelled from school or something because of this teacher and goes through the worst trauma of his life trying to pull his life back together and survive. Years later he’s the equivalent of a gang leader and meets his teacher, who’s now terrified of him. He starts stalking him and trying to get with him because man he really just wants to be called a good boy

i always find it funny how mxtx writes 6-7 year age gaps in all her main couples then makes them functionally useless in various ways.

with bingqiu: shen yuan dies around age 20 and transmigrates into shen qingqiu when luo binghe is 14. around five years later, shen qingqiu dies. five years after THAT, he wakes up in a temporary cheat sheet new body, unaware of and unaffected by any time that has passed, so he's mentally still 25-26ish. by this point luo binghe, who has been alive and fighting over his corpse the whole time as a newly awakened heavenly demon emperor, is basically only one year, maybe less, his junior. though nobody else in-universe knows, we can assume binghe is smart enough to eventually figure it out, especially after their marriage.

with wangxian, it's almost reversed. they start out being several months apart in age. wei wuxian dies in his early 20s, but unlike shen qingqiu, wei wuxian IS aware of the passage of time, though muddled. so when he's resurrected thirteen years later in the body of mo xuanyu, he's physically younger than 35-year-old lan wangji, but mentally not much different aside from catching up to how the people and places he used to know have changed. (it's a common misconception that mo xuanyu is a teenager or barely twenty, but if you dissect the timeline, he was actually somewhere in his mid to late 20s when he gave up his body.)

and finally, hualian, objectively the funniest: she slapped 800 extra years on them and called it a day. age gap, what age gap? a 10 year old peasant boy hero worshipped and developed a budding one-sided crush on the 17 year old prince of his country. after a series of tragedies they are separated for over eight centuries until they meet again as an 810ish-year-old ghost king named hua cheng and a 817ish-year-old god named xie lian, and then they mutually fall in love. basic math. amazing.

I'm kinda back cause Trump's and Vance's gang bullying of Zelensky angered me so much that I needed to see what people think on a more adequate social media platform, such as Tumblr.

president zelensky is a stronger man than me because if two ignorant and deluded men like trump and vance started demanding i say please and thank you and calling me disrespectful like im a naughty child instead of a very traumatised and frustrated man trying to save his country from putin id have put them both in the ground with a single fucking punch

Thinking about my dear moot again, so here's your quote from me for the day:

"Everyone carries a wound, no matter how small it may seem. That is the price of existing in a world such as ours."

-Agape Warrior (not a formal author, but one is a friend)

Actually, I was thinking about you too in the meanwhile and came in today to see whether you're doing alright. So, how are you?

And thank you for the quote; it so beautifully conveys what constitutes being a person...

Was thinking about you, so I hope you have a great day whenever you open this and that you find a nice fanfic to make your week

Logged into Tumblr today, saw this, and was really toched. Thank you very much, moot! I appreciate your message and wish you a pleasant week as well. Just know that your kidness has been noticed and that you definitely make the world a better place with your presence!

A mxtx crossover event where all the red-black characters had to fight, I believe, would result in a very interesting rock paper scissors scenario.

Wei Wuxian, being the Ghost Whisperer, could probably beat, or at the very least subdue Hua Cheng. We know Hua Cheng is weak to Ghost Stuff a la the Mount Tonglu opening incident, and Wei Wuxian has dealt with extremely powerful spirits in the past.

That being said, I think Hua Cheng could take Luo Binghe in a fight. This guy bested 33 heavenly officials, his swordplay is unmatched, and Luo Binghe is very powerful but I imagine that power comes with the side effect of very little finesse. Additionally his protagonist halo probably wouldn’t save him here since he’s not the only protagonist.

However, Luo Binghe would totally destroy Wei Wuxian. With his itty bitty Mo Xuanyu core he doesn’t stand a chance. Tearing through an army of the undead is the exact sort of op bullshit Binghe excels at, so that option is out too.

That being said, if their love interests are also fighting, Xie Lian bodies those fools. I’m sorry but even though Lan Wanji is excellent and SQQ is a peak lord, they do not stand a chance. Xie Lian’s favorite trick for 800 years was to break boulders on his chest while he had no access to any spiritual energy. Dude folded the heavenly emperor like a lawn chair. No contest.

During a recent nationwide air attack on Ukraine, a husband and father in Lviv suffered an unimaginable loss – his wife and three daughters were killed in a missile strike that destroyed their home. In an instant, his entire family was taken from him, leaving him to endure grief beyond words. Images of this tragedy flooded social media, serving as a heartbreaking reminder of the devastating human toll Russia’s war continues to inflict on innocent civilians. While the blame for such horrific losses is quickly placed on Putin, these victims were not killed by him alone. The missile that struck their home was not designed and built by Putin. The fighter jet that delivered it was not fueled, maintained, or piloted by him. Putin did not prepare the meals for the military and support personnel. The uniforms they wore were not sewn by Putin. Behind every strike and offensive operation is a vast network of Russian civilians and military personnel. This network includes countless individuals involved in every aspect of Russia’s so-called “special military operation,” from complex missile launches to basic administration. These tasks are carried out by average Russians working in various sectors – military, energy, manufacturing, food and agriculture, transportation, telecommunications, media. Each industry is critical to sustaining a war of this scale, and each employs millions of Russians. These workers may not hold positions of power or directly participate in combat, yet they are essential to maintaining Russia’s military efforts against Ukraine.

That's so beautifully said... Are you a writer of some sort? Because if not, I assure you, you definitely could be. Like your words are so persuasive but don't feel invasive, so with such style of writing you could influence people. And knowing you, you would influence them in a way that they would want to be kinder, gentler, and more understanding...
