this thread and this article detail recordings made available to the media that were taken during the oct. 7 massacre by hamas terrorists. there is a sickness there beyond words, but the sickness i have seen on social media is something different, an almost desperate urge to perceive these acts as noble, misunderstood, exaggerated. it's an utter unwillingness to accept that true evil exists, motivated by ideas that seem almost imaginary - too horrible to be true - to people who have been shielded from such inescapable violence and hatred for so long that no one remembers how to respond. it is so unthinkable that many cannot think it, will not think it. they will retreat to moral equivalence, they will fold it into their existing framework (the victims were not innocent, not really), they will change the subject so that they don't have to admit their moral compass is broken, that they outsourced it to their politics, to their radical friends who like shouting about injustice and revolution without understanding what any of it means. this is what it means.

ok ive been keeping my mouth shut on the topic bc im a coward but it is seriously seriously concerning how many people feel comfortable gleefully being mask-off antisemites at the first possible opportunity, and even more concerning how many of said people are very popular tumblr users whose thousands and thousands of followers at best cannot recognize antisemitism and at worst condone or even encourage it. and yeah some of these people have had at least somewhat concerning politics for a while (not naming names but iykyk) but some of them have seemed mostly normal or even positioned themselves as allies to the jewish community. so uh please excuse me feeling very distrustful and scared rn

my mom’s suffering so much from her arm and there’s nothing i can do to make it better, and she started having a reaction to the antibiotics, so she had to cut back to only taking one each day, and i am very worried that she’s been taking them for a week and is still in this much pain. we have to take the car back in tomorrow and leave it there, so we’ll have to figure out how’s safest to get home. meanwhile i just can’t sleep and am getting really close to the edge of not being able to handle it
