Each zodiac sign rules a different part of the human anatomy. In seeing the macrocosm of the heavens influence over one whole organic unit, the ancients devised the philosophy that the body is a sacred space reflecting the eternity of the cosmos manifested in the present.

The Sect Light

Whether or not you were born during the day or night can have a profound influence on your chart and the way that it manifests in your life. This is actually a lot more pervasive than I’ll explain here, but as a basic concept it can be useful for experimentation.

If you were born during the daytime (Sun in houses 7-12 or above the Asc/Dsc axis) the Sun is raised to higher importance in your chart, and it’s more likely that you’ll resonate with your solar self.

If you were born during the nighttime (Sun in houses 1-6 or below the Asc/Dsc axis) the Moon is raised to higher importance in your chart, and it’s more likely that you’ll resonate with your lunar self.

You can see that although this is relatively simple it can be very effective, and indeed shifts the focus of a chart quite drastically. Using the sect light as a jumping off point for the chart can lead you to a greater understanding of the actual manifestations of a persons life.

How to approach a chart

General notes:

Make sure you know about your “tools” before you start to avoid wrongly interpreting or missing something. These “tools” are knowledge of the basics/things like

the flat wheel

the elements

the sign’s, planet’s, and house’s keywords / archetypes

the modalities

rulerships

In an astrological chart, southern and sorthern as well as east and west are switched so south is up, north is down, west is right, east is left. (for A.1)

Make sure you have birth data that’s as accurate as possible. We’re talking birth certificate or biography accurate.

Clearly always feel free to add more as you please, but these things should be included to create a rough outline of any chart.

A) Overall Impression:

Are more planets in the southern (upper half) or northern (lower half) hemisphere of the chart? Are more in the eastern (left half) or western (right half) part?

Are there any interceptions/duplications? If so, where?

Where are the angles?

Any obvious chart patterns?

Any big stellia?

B) Narrowing it down a bit - Sorting into categories:

How much energy is concentrated in a certain element, modality, and polarity?

How many bodies fall into angular houses/cardinal signs, how many into succedent/fixed and cadent/mutable?

How many bodies fall into fire houses/signs, how many into earth, air, and water?

How many bodies fall into an active/masculine house/sign, how many into a passive/feminine sign?

Are there any significant lacks of a certain category? Does the chart significantly lack a certain element’s, polarity’s, or modality’s energy?

How many aspects are present? Of what kind? How many conjunctions? How about sextiles, trines, oppositions, and squares?

C) Making it exact - Placement positions, major aspects, etc.:

What houses and signs do the individual planets and luminaries fall in?

What major aspects form between which planets?

Are any planets strongly afflicted or beneficially aspected?

What is the chart ruler and where is it?

What house cusps do the signs fall on?

Are any planets in retrograde?

D) Looking for details - Degrees, lords, rulerships, etc.:

What decans do the planets fall in?

Where are the lords of the houses seated?

Are any planets dignified or exalted? In detriment or fall?

Are any planets in an anartic degree?

Where are the rulers of certain placements seated?

What is the tightest aspect?

E) Delineation

The actual delineation (= interpretation/analysis) of the chart can begin here. Taking the above steps shouldn’t involve active interpretation just yet as you are simply creating an outline for the chart and objectively view the distribution of energies in it. It is supposed to ensure having the big picture in mind from the beginning on as well as making sure that nothing is forgotten.

Fire moons (Aries, Leo, Sag): they are heavily driven and spirited. Ambitious, creative and enthusiastic are all qualities that bind the fire moons. They are quite blunt but despite their hash nature, they are vulnerable and simply want to feel “important” to others or society.

Fire moon + Fire Venus: These people are quite direct when it comes to flirting and they are very “loud” that can be very attractive to others. Fire and fire makes this person a joy and a party. Although it’s hard for them to solidify a romance because they work in short cycles. They may let their inner ambitions and their need for competition to get in the way. They will compare themselves to their partners constantly or they will let that faulty ego get in the way and assume their partners don’t appreciate them. These ppl need reassurance and they also need some grounding. Believe it or not, these people lack interpersonal skills and need to understand the purposes of relationships. They can be too demanding and lack the ability to negotiate boundaries of the relationship and accommodate with them.

Fire moon + Air Venus: These people don’t know what they want. Too much free-flowing and high energy can make it hard for them to find partners that keep them interested but they can be promiscuous. They can come off too intimidating bc of how independent and fierce they are. Most importantly, they don’t prefer relationships that require much work, they may be more concern with their projects and building up an image rather than investing in personal relationships; however, they can be romantic. Others may assume this combination is very “fake” or surface level but again, these people don’t know what they want. Air venus typically don’t know how relationships work in general and paired with a fire moon that is always working toward people’s validation, they need a partner that can work with them but not take charge. These people hate being confined.

Fire moon + Water Venus: These people need it all. They can give too much devotion to their partners which usually results into unbalanced power dynamics. These people can easily get pushed aside and manipulated. However, they can also manipulate their partners; either way it’s important these people establish healthy relationships and not be too dependent on their partners. They also got a presence to them, a quirky but also direct personality that makes them very attractive to others especially of how loyal and protective they are. Romance is very essential and they will typically do all the corny romantic gestures you can think of. However, they are very fragile and relationships must be nurturing for them and the other person. Know your boundaries and learn to not invest in people who wouldn’t give you the time of day.

Fire moon + Earth Venus: These people like to be in charge when it comes to relationships. They can be very ambitious and driven but they are not as direct and it takes time for them to really see who is a perfect fit for them. They, too can be very demanding and again, they can practically run the relationship because being in control is almost a necessity. Romance is shown through gifts and being secured with one another. They can be bossy but it’s because they usually are independent and they know exactly what they want. The other person just needs to fit with their standards. I will say it’s hard to work with these people bc they are like molten rock; they always gotta be in the right.

The natal chart shouldn’t be something that conjures up feelings of restriction or being boxed into categories, but something to look at and think, what can I make from this? What talents and quirks and virtues have I got innately in me? And what can I put out into the world?

It is the foundation, the roots, and from it, we bloom.

One thing I’ve noticed is that I’ve always been on a different “wavelength” than everyone else, like I’m an outsider observing everything even when I’m among my friends. It feels like there’s always a thin film separating me from everyone else, like I’m some sort of different species. I feel like a silent protagonist: everyone else is an NPC who knows their lines, who has their own scripts and schedules, and I’m drifting between them, and if I interact with them, I’m throwing an entire system out of whack.

“Astrology describes the basic, fundamental energetic patterns that inform our approach to life. But astrology says absolutely nothing about our degree of awareness, how conscious we are, or in other words, our level of psycho spiritual development. Astrology tells us what we have packed in our bags for our evolutionary journey, but not how much progress we have made along the way. That’s why people born at the same time – like twins – can often be so very different. It also helps to explain why some people seem to be tossed around by fate, while others have a greater degree of control. So the key to living out the best expression of our energies is to bring as much awareness and compassion to them as possible.”

The Luminaries and Planets in Astrology

Each luminary and each planet in astrology affects different parts of our personality. By this point, we understand the 12 archetypes, but now we must be aware of what these celestial bodies mean in the first place when a sign is placed there.

The Sun Ruler of Leo, the Sun represents the Self. It is representative of our strength, will, vitality, ego and our basic personality. The Sun, in our charts, represents who we are at our very best.

The Moon Ruler of Cancer, the Moon represents the Personal/True Self. It is representative of our emotions, our soul, instinct and intuition and who we truly are internally. The Moon, in our charts, represents the deepest part of us.

Mercury Ruler of both Gemini and Virgo, Mercury represents the Mind. It is representative of our intellect and how we communicate and mentally process things on a day-to-day basis. Mercury, in our charts, represents how we communicate and interact everyday.

Venus Ruler of both Taurus and Libra, Venus represents Attraction. It is representative of love, money, friendships, relationships and what we find beautiful. Venus, in our charts, represents who and what we are attracted to and how we go about obtaining it.

Mars Ruler of Aries, Mars represents Willpower. It is representative of stamina, anger, sex and what stimulates our physical energy. Mars, in our charts, shows what/how we put our energy to use.

Jupiter Ruler of Sagittarius, Jupiter represents Expansion. It is representative of optimism, growth, luck and wisdom. Jupiter, in our charts, represents what we should follow in order to attract happiness and good karma in our lives.

Saturn Ruler of Capricorn, Saturn represents Discipline. It is representative of boundaries, fears, responsibilities and karma. Saturn, in our charts, teaches us lessons to help us grow.

Uranus Ruler of Aquarius, Uranus represents Freedom. It is representative of change, originality and progressiveness. Uranus, in our charts, shows where we go against order or tradition.

Neptune Ruler of Pisces, Neptune represents Illusion. It is representative of spirituality, deception and intuition. Neptune, in our charts, shows where we fall into delusion eventually resulting in heightened awareness.

Pluto Ruler of Scorpio, Pluto represents Transformation. It is representative of spiritual growth, rebirth and renewal and change. Pluto, in our charts, represents where we will find for a deeper truth or meaning and what we will destroy and eventually create and give life to.

A guide to... astrological aspects

I love studying astrological aspects so I decided to make a guide on it! Aspects are measured angles between the planets (and ascendant + MC) that have influence on you. They can also be off by a few degrees, this is called an orb and the smaller orb an aspect has, the stronger it is. They can be positive, negative, or neutral. Neutral aspects can either be positive or negative depending on the planets involved. There are major aspects, minor aspects, and aspect patterns. I’ll go over the first two of those in this post.

Major aspects are aspects that have a bigger significance. Major aspects are…

Conjunction - This is two planets 0˚ away from one another. This is a neutral aspect. The planet’s involved energies  are brought together with this aspect so depending on the planets it could either be good or bad.

Sextile - This is two planets that are 60˚ away from one another. This aspect is generally positive. The energies of the planets involved inspire, encourage, and cooperate well with each other.

Square - This is two planets that are 90˚ away from one another. This is a negative aspect to have. The planets energies don’t cooperate and they cause mutually exclusive desires and needs.

Trine - These are two planets that are 120˚ away from one another. This is a positive aspect. The planets involved’s energies work together harmoniously, enriching one another.

Opposition - These are two planets which are 180˚ away from one another. This is generally a negative aspect but it can also be viewed as a neutral aspect, depending on the planets involved. There is tension between these planets energies but this can be motivating.

Minor aspects are aspects that have lesser significance. Minor aspects are…

Semisextile - These are two planets that are 30˚ away from one another. This is a neutral aspect so it can either be positive of negative depending on the planets involved. It can symbolize that the planets involved’s energies can cause a hard-to-discover potential.

Semisquare - These are two planets that are 45˚ away from one another. This is a negative aspect. The energies of the planets involved cause unapparent tension.

Quintile - This is two planets that are 72˚ away from one another. It is a positive aspect. The energies of these planets work together to unleash talent and potential They can point to purposeful uses of one’s talent and this talent usually has to do with art.

Sesquisquare - These two planets are 135˚ away from one another. This is a negative aspect. These two planetary energies cause conflict and tension just like the square except this tension is easier to suppress… making it harder to learn from.

Biquintile - These two planets are 144˚ away from one another. This is a positive aspect. These planets energies are very good for artistic areas. Although people are generally only vaguely aware of the energy from this aspect.

Quincunx/Inconjunct - These two planets are 150˚ away from one another. This is a neutral aspect and arguably the most important of the minor aspects. It give potential that is difficult to release and adjust to.

Well, I hope this helped someone understand aspects better! Feel free to drop any questions you have into my ask box!! Also, please inform me if you would like me to make a post on aspect patterns.

Venus and Neptune

Venus and Neptune are quite similar in more than a few ways, but they are also vastly different. Likely the first thing you think of when correlating these two planets is love. They both dictate love in certain ways. But the kind of love they influence is entirely different. Venus is how you act in love and the kind of casual dating you like. It’s when you’ve loved someone for maybe a year or a few, but Neptune? Neptune is long lasting, unconditional love. I almost want to say that it is true love. Now, I don’t want to put it as Venusian love is more trivial than Neptunian love, but it is more common than Neptunian love. You know you are feeling Neptunian love when you know you can’t possibly fall out of it. Of course, Neptunian love may sometimes be worse, it can make you co-dependent or not really see your partner for all they truly are and all their flaws.

Another thing you may think of when correlating these two is art. Though the difference between these two planet’s influence when it comes to art is more clear than when it comes to love. Venusian influence over art is that of what kinds of art you find beautiful, what art attracts you. But Neptunian influence over art is the kind of art you create, your imagination, it’s what you use art for. To put it simply, Venusian art is the kind you like experiencing while Neptunian art is art of your own creation.

Then, what people might graze over when it comes to these two is desire. Venusian desire is the kind of desire as to things you want or experiences you want. Things you are passionate about that you desperately need to have. But Neptunian desire is the kind of “perfect world” you want. It is your idealized version of everything. You may find that achieving something of Venusian desire has much more of a short-term gratification than achieving something of Neptunian desire.

Finally there is the correlation between these two planets and kindness. Venusian kindness isn’t really pure genuine kindness. It is one of charm, a natural charisma. But that’s all it is, a personality trait. Neptunian kindness on the other hand is one of self-sacrifice for the betterment of someone else. It is going out of one’s way to help another. It is giving their all to show genuine kindness from the bottom of their heart. While both are pleasant to experience and very true, Neptunian kindness seems to be a more evolved version of Venusian kindness. Although of course Neptunian kindness could end negatively with a martyr-complex.

Having any aspects between these two planets (especially major aspects) can make it so the the lines between these different types are blurred. For example aspects between Venus and Neptune could result in someone idealizing their partner and may up constantly daydreaming about them when they should be focusing on other things, even if they have only been dating for a relatively short amount of time. They’d also likely show a very Neptunian kind of kindness around their partner. It could also make for a person who has good artistic tastes and is very in-touch with their own aesthetic. They’d likely either be described as sweet or charming, but also a bit delusional. They may have unrealistic expectations for their life and may incorrectly feel as if getting those Venusian desires will be equivalent to those Neptunian desires.

Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces (The Mutable Signs)

So, you may have heard that mutable signs (gemini, virgo, sagittarius, and pisces) don’t get along. Now, before you start crying about your doomed astrologically incompatible relationship, let’s look at what’s actually going on here.

Mutable signs are all trying to finish something:

Gemini is trying to finish differentiating everything

Virgo is trying to finish physical perfection

Sagittarius is trying to finish the ultimate truth

Pisces is trying to finish infinity

They’re all trying to “finish” but because what they’re trying to finish is all different (they have different end goals) they tend not to get along, astrologically speaking.

But

A) If you’re talking compatibility, there are WAY more factors than just your Sun signs.

B) Squares, while tense, provide motion much like oppositions do. Mutable signs, particularly mutable Suns, are happiest when challenged. They like to find an obstacle to finishing their goal and then overcoming it. While it makes for a dynamic relationship, they can complement each other quite nicely.

Detriment/Fall

Libra Sun is the harmonizing cheerleader, lending their mirror to exaggerate the strengths of others. They outline your best features in their finest cosmetics, and send you off with kind words and confidence in your purpose Aquarius Sun is the pioneering humanist, glowing with idealism in the lives of others. Fixed in their convictions, the float to and from their peers, landing where they may make a difference in the lives of those who need them

Capricorn Moon sees your emotions, and feels their own. Yet when it comes down to it, there is a goal to be achieved, and if their emotions don’t fit within the structure they allow them simmer under the surface so that they may build a place where they may feel freely, without judgement Scorpio Moon feels your emotions, and your emotions perpetuate their own. They burn and sizzle into embers waiting to be reignited; they will put out the fires burning within others and harbor that ember valiantly, drowning the pain in water, so that others may have the peace that they so desperately desire

Sagittarius Mercury is the preacher reciting their sermon in front of the eager crowd. There is little listening, but still there remains a sense of universal unity; they sing with the choir, and love those in the pews, but only truly listen to their God Pisces Mercury hides within the currents, elusive and fluid in their expression. Though they cannot organize their thoughts into words, they can understand your words effortlessly - knowing that your reality is the same as their reality, although distorted through the reflection of the ripples in the water

Aries Venus fights valiantly for their love, idealism seeping through their feelings for you. Quick to spark the passion of romance, they sizzle out if you do not fan their fire; but their love for you will always remain as pure as a child’s love, wishing desperately for a playmate that shares their excitement for life Scorpio Venus digs within the depths of your psyche to find the dark places that no one sees; it is uncomfortable, and ugly in expression because it has been hidden, but they will soothe the burns with their cool waters and accept those demons that you keep locked away - as long as you accept theirs

Libra Mars floats into their dreams and charms their way toward their goals; they harmonize themselves with others who embody what they want. Although uncomfortable with asserting what they want, they will surround themselves with those who want the same thing, and in their harmony with others their partnerships can bring them success Taurus Mars is not agile, nor interested in the fight that entails victory; instead, they are the tortoise, challenging the hare with their constant work and stability. They will work at their own pace to achieve, and in turn, find more satisfaction in their endeavors; they’ve done it in their own way and in their own time, never losing sight of that finish line Cancer Mars is motherly protection - an emotional outburst caused by the threat of their inner world. They defend valiantly themselves and the ones they care about, though abrupt and haphazardly; they weed out those with impure motives, scaring off the vultures with their cardinal anger so that unconditional love may permeate their lives
