The fact that the parent who abandoned Ricky was the only one able to speak directly to him makes me reconsider my opinions about Lynne and how she could have a redemption and how Mike is not a good father either.

Lynne taught Ricky how to play the piano, which is why she has a piano in the room that she has prepared for Ricky in her apartment.

This is for everyone that thinks that Nini has done nothing wrong and that the breakup was all Ricky's fault.

For the record, Ricky has done some messed up stuff. I've talked about what he did and why I believe he did it, here, here and here (the last is not my post), and talked about rini in general (including some of what Nini did), here. Those are not excusing what he did by any means, but hopefully they give more if an understanding to his actions.

Now this post is focusing on Nini.

I've heard people say that there's nothing wrong with her wanting to be independent and focus on herself and that's true, but when you're in a relationship, communication is key.

First of all, she lied about why she stayed in Salt Lake. She knew that Ricky thought she stayed for him and just let him believe that, and then got upset when he mentioned it. You never told him, your boyfriend, the reason why you made such a huge decision that could have a big effect on your life. Only to be upset that he thought it was because of him, when you made it seem like it was and didn't tell him otherwise.

Secondly, Ricky can't read Nini's mind and I think she forgets that. She makes decisions about her life that can affect her relationship with him without proper communication and explanation and gets mad at him when he asks questions about it. She's been distant and he wants to know why, it's only natural for him to think that it's because of something he did. And if it isn't, then tell him that.

Finally, she hasn't told him what she wants. He's trying to help her but all he has to go off of is the last thing she told him she wanted, which was to be an actress. She literally left to go to an acting school. She can't blame him for trying to get her back into the musical because when he asked about it, she didn't say "No I do not want to be in the musical", she said something like "It doesn't seem fair" and brushed it off. He wanted to surprise her by talking to Ms Jenn about it but when ms Jenn said no, he dropped it. He didn't push for her to get a part, Ms Jenn came up with it herself. Even if her dreams changed or if she doesn't fully know what they are yet(which she said in episode 4), Ricky could offer his support to her while she figures it out. Right now, it seems like she's half in, half out, she's going through so much on her own and treating the relationship as though it's a side thing and not a big thing that she should be committed to. She lives for her independence, which I can understand, but she can't push Ricky aside like that with no explanation.

He is your partner.

He deserves to know why you're pushing him away. Set boundaries and cooperate with him and have calm discussions about what you both want. Say that you need some time to figure yourself out, or break up with him. It's that simple.

Help, I watched Young Royals after watching HSMTMTS season 2 episode 8, I'm not okay

Just imagine that Ricky, after spending spring break with his mother, decides to move in with her at the end of the school year so that he can be in a quiet place and go to therapy. And then the season ends with Ricky singing Gotta Go My Own Way as we watch the other couples having fun and Nini being independent.

At this point I think that Ricky's mother is the only character capable of telling Ricky what he needs to hear, I hate her, but I think that only she can give him the reality check that Ricky needs to seek help, he needs to go to therapy, treat his emotional dependency, I hate to say it but my last hope is Lynne Bowen.

Killer: Your last words?

Ricky: Do you think I'm useful at something? Be honest please.

Ricky's Issue

I want to talk about this ... Did anyone even notice that Ricky's career aptitude test said he had no profitable skills? What is Ricky good at? Yes, he is a skater, he knows how to play the guitar and he sings very well, but what are Ricky's skills? What is Ricky's passion? Why do most of the characters have a clear goal but with Ricky it's just: "Sure, let's make him emotionally dependent and with abandonment issues but let's not touch that issue in depth, let's make him behave like an unbearable idiot and end up with his girlfriend but at the end of the season he and Nini make up again, let's make Ricky's life just revolve around his love life”.

Why doesn't Ricky have goals? Why doesn't Ricky have dreams? Why hasn't Ricky's deep feelings been delved into? Ricky is one of the 2 leads, so why is the rest of the cast more interesting than him?

Ricky Bowen needs therapy, and here's why.

In season 1, Ricky said that at first he had commitment issues because of his parents (”because that's not even a word your parents say to eachother anymore" speech at the auditions)

Then when his parents officially split, he wanted more than ever to get back with Nini. He needed something he could count on. He doesn't think that he's capable of maintaining a relationship because his own parents, the people that raised him and taught him almost everything he knows about life, couldn't even stay together.

When he finally got back with Nini he started saying things like, "I'm never leaving her again".

That's unhealthy.

He's trying to cope with everything in his life by clinging to Nini, trying to prove that maybe, his past self was wrong, that he can be in a relationship without it falling apart like his parents'.

I'm season 2 episode 5 we see this interesting exchange:

"When will we get to see each other" (the man was terrified of drifting apart due to lack of interaction)

"We see eachother all the time Ricky" (Nini knows that they love each other and that they don't need to be together 24/7 to stay strong.

He doesn't believe it, he knows how easily the light between two people can die out. He's seen it happen before.

Nini may be starting to notice this and she's probably confused, Ricky wasn't like this when they dated before, so what happened? When she was at YAC. We saw just how torn Ricky was, he didn't know who he was anymore, everything he did, it's like he had to have the "little Nini" in his head to guide him through when Nini was too busy to help him make decisions.

I think he definitely loves Nini, but there's something else.

I believe that he feels just a little something for Gina and doesn't want to be like his mom and Todd. He wants to stay faithful to Nini and maybe he thinks that being with Nini more would help get rid of those feelings, or that by constantly talking about Nini with Gina, his mind would realise that he wants to love Nini and only Nini, even though his heart knows he could be falling for someone else.

He's terrified of falling out of love with the only person that hasn't let him down.

He's got so much going on, that his entire identity right now is literally tied to Nini.

In conclusion, Richard Bowen needs a lot of help, therapy, counseling and probably should take a break from romantic relationships for a while, at least until he knows who he is.

You can't give your all to someone else, when you don't know who you are. He's pouring from an empty glass, doing anything he can to keep Nini.

He really wants to be with her 24/7 to reduce opportunity for her to find someone better or a reason to leave him, as well as reduce the chance of him losing his feelings.

Can we talk about how Ricky needs to go to therapy to treat his clear emotional dependence on Nini?

I mean, he did everything from joining the drama club to being with Nini.

When she leaves, Ricky seemed disconnected at rehearsals and seems focused only when Nini returns.

Now Ricky wants Nini to be in the play because he doesn't want to act if Nini is not on stage.

It just makes me think that Ricky is emotionally dependent and that he may also fear that Nini will walk away from him like his mom did.
