Person A: “How could you?! You know how they feel about you!”

Person B: “…Has it ever occurred to you that how I feel, matters too?”

Person A: “Hey, have you seen (Person B)?”

Person C: “Not since yesterday evening, why?”

Person A: “Someone claiming to be their arch nemesis, is standing outside demanding to see them.”

Person C: “….I thought (Person D) was their arch nemesis?”

Person A: “They are.”

Person C: “Then who the fuck is- You know what, don’t worry about it. Let me handle this.”

To whom it may concern,

If you have had the misfortune of finding this note, then you are most likely the new owner of this property. And for that, I can only apologise and offer my condolences.

I have done everything within my power to ensure that this property never gains a new owner, but as the years go by and my body and mind begin to fail me, I fear that all of my preparations might have been in vain, as one can never hope to fully prepare for every eventuality.

As such, all I can do now is offer what little advice I have managed to gather over the years, in the hopes that whichever poor soul is reading this, will be able to avoid the fate that myself, and all those before me, were doomed to.

1 - Never extinguish or move, the lantern in the attic.

2 - If the lantern moves by itself, do not try and put it back in its usual place. It will return there in due time.

3 - Never use the back door. It does not lead to where you think it does, and it is locked for a reason.

4 - If said reason starts knocking or scratching at that door, do not respond, but be sure to cook a little extra that night, and try to pretend you do not notice when there is nothing left behind come the morn.

5 - Never remove flowers from the garden without having something on hand, to give back in return.

6 - Do not light the fireplace on the north wall. There is something living there, and the flames will be seen as an invitation.

7 - Those are not people by the lake, and they do not like it when you stare.

8 - Do not touch the apple tree. You cannot afford what they cost.

9 - The fourth step will squeak if you step on it during the day. Pay no attention to how it growls, when you do so at night.

10 - Never leave a mirror uncovered when you leave a room. These too, will be taken as an invitation, and not all guests are as polite as the chimney beast.

11 - Mysterious books should be avoided at all costs.

12 - No, that corner was not always that dark. Do not try and investigate it.

13 - Do not respond to the whispering you hear during the night. They do not only seek to wake you.

Good luck, dear stranger.

May you succeed, where all before you, have failed.

Every 21st century piece of writing advice: Make us CARE about the character from page 1! Make us empathize with them! Make them interesting and different but still relatable and likable!

Every piece of classic literature: Hi. It's me. The bland everyman whose only purpose is to tell you this story. I have no actual personality. Here's the story of the time I encountered the worst people I ever met in my life. But first, ten pages of description about the place in which I met them.

They are not medically accurate, just enough for artists to know the necessary muscles and how they work together

I 100% recommend doing the last exercise I did to be able to actually place the muscles

"Side by side, they were very much alike, in similarity less of lineament than of manner and bearing,

a correspondence of gesture which bounced and echoed between them so that a blink seemed to reverberate, moments later, in a twitch of the other's eyelid.

Their eyes were the same color of gray, intelligent and calm. She, I thought, was very beautiful, in an unsettling, almost medieval way which would not be apparent to the casual observer.“

Person A: "Your family is quite... unique."

Person B: "You can say batshit, I don't mind. They'd probably be flattered if you did actually."

Person A: "I take it this is common behaviour for them then?"

Person B: "Very.... Still sure you want in on this? Now that you know what they're like..."

Person A: "...I won't lie, it'll take some getting use to... but honestly? I already prefer the way yours behave as opposed to mine. As intense as they were, they at least seemed to genuinely care about each other..."

Hello!

Your art is so gorgeous and inspirational!

Do you have any tips on drawing body horror and character design? When I've tried to design some characters with body horror they all end up looking rather friendly 😅

Hope you have a lovely day and thanks in advance!

Thank you! I'm happy to hear that! Here goes!

NEZ GUIDE TO BODY HORROR

(Disclaimer; this is my advice, not rules. Break them as you wish)

Despite not doing it on purpose, a lot of my art is tagged as body-horror. I've embraced it. Here are my 3 pillars for frightening art. I don't have to follow them all at once, at least one is enough.

Nature

Get inspired by nature. Not necessarily by gore and wounds, but by things that look normal in one context but might appear unsettling in another. A great example is my pumpkin creature; everyone has seen the insides of a pumpkin but adding that texture to a living body made everyone react more strongly to it. I highly recommend natural things with strange textures and patterns (especially seeds)

Hello!
Hello!
Hello!

I recently bought this for all the gorgeous pattern and creature drawings. It's a beautiful book for those who want to draw horror based on nature. Careful if you have tyrophobia, this has some INTENSE patterns.

Subtlety

In either execution or concept.

In execution; give the drawing other recognizable characteristics. The gore is NOT them, it's just part of them. An example would be my cowboy creature. They have the coat, the hat, the boots, the smile...and then you notice the heads. Give your character more than their frightening parts.

In concept; If you want the bright reds and obvious gore, follow one simple concept. In the example below, the concept was a wound surrounded by mushrooms. That is all. If I were to add 'but also mushrooms leave their eyes, and bloody tears fall from them, and they have gashes in their skin, and'' it would have made the impact of all of those concepts collapse. Like a bed of nails. The more nails you add, the less a single individual nail will hurt.

Hello!
Hello!

Feeling

It follows the theme above. I noticed horror works better when it's not an abudance but also when it's relatable. I've seen people react more intensely to an animated character brushing a line of yarn against their eyeball than an animated character having their head explode in blood, brains, and bone. You can draw from emotional feelings as well, turning your mental pain into a physical manifestation of it.

This is not a must follow because I do plenty horror art without being vulnerable nor making myself uncomfortable, I just notice people react when they can relate and feel it too.

I hope it helps anon!

King Lycaon Famously Challenged Zeus To See If He Was Truly Omniscient By Serving The God Roasted Human

King Lycaon famously challenged Zeus to see if he was truly omniscient by serving the god roasted human flesh. In retaliation for this hideous act, Zeus turned King Lycaon into a wolf and then proceeded to kill the king’s fifty sons with lightning bolts in retaliation of the cruel trick. The constellation Lupus depicts King Lycaon after his transformation.

My piece for Light Grey Art Lab’s COSMOS show that exhibited the past weekend. I drew the constellation “Lupus”.
