pixiv is basically the Japanese DeviantArt, full of talented artists I’d never have heard of otherwise. I picked up Udon’s Pixiv Almanac last year at PAX East and I craved more. I’m now subscribed to pixiv Top Weekly – Top 20 which gives a good balance of quality and quantity. Other pixiv feeds are available at PixivRss. If people like this post, I may do some more like this in the future.
You can click each image below to visit its posting on pixiv. If you register an account there, you can download the full resolution image. Also, this is a good time to remind you that I write mouseover text for almost every image on this blog, which you can see whether you’re on my site or reading my RSS feed.
(This post and the four before it were all one post over on my old blog. Tumblr doesn’t support mouseover text, so I’ve copied those over as plain text for each image’s post.)
That sky is pretty! I use this as the wallpaper for my Grub menu to choose which OS to boot into. I think I was actually linked to this one by a Tumblr blog I followed, but I forget which one. Sorry.
UPDATE: Added Google Translate-based guesses for all titles and usernames to bring this more in line with my other pixiv posts

Now this is a hoverboard! Zapata Racing makes those water jetpacks for your feet, and now they’re cranking up the power and making a Flyboard that flies through open air. The Flyboard Air can apparently fly for 10 minutes at up to 93 mph and 10,000 feet. If even half of this is real, I want one last year.

Street Fighter IV is actually pretty weird beneath the surface. YouTube user ArmchairTitan wows us with ridiculous combos you’ll never see outside of training mode and some priceless editing. This ought to help hold us until we hear more about Street Fighter V‘s mechanics, if they’ll be anywhere near this crazy.

After playing Wordle for three months and becoming a mod on /r/wordle, I’ve analyzed every possible starting word for greens, useful yellows, narrowing the solutions, and trap avoidance. Now, here’s the culmination of my. Research: a fighting game character tier list! Every character here is playable and ranked by their effectiveness in Hard Mode. Go run the bracket on those puzzles!

Pandora is still the best at finding music that is musically similar to other tracks you like. With a little patience and a little luck, it’s possible to train Pandora to hit all the right notes. I listen to a lot of different music so I have a list of stations for whatever I feel like at the moment.
Metal Mash-Up – updated off and on since 2005 with all the kinds of metal I like Expert Mode – prog rock and guitar solos that would be difficult in Guitar Hero Fun – a catch-all for punk rock, nerd rock, electropop, and much more Electronic Skill – hard EDM and industrial you’d hear in frag videos Chippy Jams – chiptunes, game soundtracks, and other tracker-sounding music Sequencer Beats – DJ grooves and hip hop instrumentals for chillin’ and Marvel Lyrical Hip Hop – only real MCs and classics, no repetitive radio-friendly rap here Wheel of Pandora – randomly plays any genre on Pandora; use in shuffles! Hitstun’s QuickMix (autoplay) – all of the stations above shuffled together
I'm aware I've got a couple stations reversed in the bottom row. You know, I almost didn't put an image in this post, but it would have looked way out of place for a post to not have a featured image. My one extension that grabs YouTube video thumbnails probably would have put that Quake 3 video's preview image in there, but this post isn’t about Quake 3.

Tokyo Attack came to Matsuricon again and introduced me to Neon FM, a button-drumming music game with some neat features. If you fail a song, the game drops the difficulty level a little and lets you keep playing. The arcade, iOS, and Android versions all work about the same and even support online multiplayer matches between them. I want to try that sometime but the closest arcade with Neon FM is in the developer’s home town of Baltimore.
I thought Orange Lounge Radio had an interview with the developer, but the wiki had no mention of it. Maybe I've got it mixed up with the Kyle Ward interview in episode 596 where he talks about ReRave's arcade and mobile versions. I'm confused.

I just got on the train headed for another PAX East! 70,000 gamers get together in Boston every year to play games, and you can find competition in any game there is. Last year, I took second place in the tournaments for Tetris DS and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2, and I’ve been training to win them both this time around. I’ll be updating Twitter just like last year.
Anyway, enjoy some high-energy Game Boy chiptunes courtesy of Xinon. This album has gotten me through some long, tiring weekends.

Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery had this Despicable Me minion balloon stuck on a high ceiling. When it finally came down, the security cameras caught footage of it wandering the museum like it had a mind of its own. Whenever I get a balloon, I add weight to it to get it to silently float around like an Air Swimmer. It’s a rare sight, and if you don’t expect it, you might think it’s a ghost!

Chiptune Hell is what I wish my room looked like. The desktop is filled with retro gaming gear I’d have to get at Warp Zone or Ohayocon’s dealer’s room. Is that a CRT TV with a built-in Super Famicom?
I’m trying a few new things with this post. Jetpack is now cross-posting to my rarely-used Twitter and Google+ as well as Facebook and the usual RSS feed. Even if none of those things reach you, you can now subscribe by email in the sidebar. (Can I even do that on Tumblr? That was a nice feature in Jetpack...)
I’ve also introduced tags and tagged up all my previous posts Tumblr-style. If you want to see all the music posts, other posts that have too many links, my original content, or an RSS feed of just the pixiv posts, you can get that now.
The artist's web site links right to the full-size image, I guess it's probably OK if I do the same here. Wow, this post is so meta it hurts.

The Ohio State University football team has a 20 game winning streak and is still somehow only 4th in the polls. One thing’s for sure, though. We have the Best Damn Band in the Land.
One of these days, I’ll have to dig up some videos from my band days at Westerville North. Band was awesome.

You came back! I realized while writing the PiNe post that my most recent artist post was this one, so I updated it in case anyone came back and looked. Since then, Marvel vs Capcom Infinite came out and Wave gave it the Meowvel treatment.

Happy Marvel vs Capcom Infinite day :)
