Wordle The Fighting Game Character Tier List

Wordle the Fighting Game Character Tier List

After playing Wordle for three months and becoming a mod on /r/wordle, I’ve analyzed every possible starting word for greens, useful yellows, narrowing the solutions, and trap avoidance. Now, here’s the culmination of my. Research: a fighting game character tier list! Every character here is playable and ranked by their effectiveness in Hard Mode. Go run the bracket on those puzzles!

Crappy Design

Crappy Design

/r/CrappyDesign is a blindingly colorful Subreddit that collects unfortunate design mistakes from all over the world. They’re the Engrish.com of half-baked engineering. Good old TwistedSifter recently did what I do with artists and made a post of the best/worst of the bunch.

The first animated gif on my blog took three years and is actually an mp4, not a gif. The gif was 10.7MB. I'll be using this modified Reddit gifv code to bring you more fake gifs in the future. You should be able to click this and go to TwistedSifter's post. Will it work, or is this just another crappy design? (For Tumblr, I corrected Giphy’s downsized medium version of this into a proper 3MB gif.)

Awesome Games Done Quick

Awesome Games Done Quick

Awesome Games Done Quick 2015 is underway and my favorite games are already getting destroyed by top speedrunners. Check the schedule for the games you don’t want to miss. The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive block has just begun. I keep the Twitch stream in fullscreen on one monitor and the QuakeNet IRC chat open on the other. While this is going on, I’ll be working on my own broken platform game for the VOGJam.

Wait, how did I post about this last year? Click the banner to go to the stream.

GameHut Coding Secrets

GameHut is a YouTube channel run by Jon Burton, founder of Traveller’s Tales and producer of Lego games and movies. His series on Coding Secrets dives deep into the Sega Genesis versions of Sonic 3D Blast and Toy Story to explain how he achieved those great graphics. He really used all the resources to do things the hardware was never meant to do.

Fire Your Representatives!

Fire Your Representatives!

Serious time here for a minute. If you can legally vote in the US, it’s your responsibility to read about your ballot and vote in the mid-term elections on Tuesday, or you have no right to complain about the outcome.

Who is your House Representative? Did they participate in the budget stalemate that shut down the government for 16 days? Did they vote for CISPA, a cybersecurity bill that would have allowed the NSA to bypass existing privacy laws? If so, vote against them and fire them. This includes every Representative from Ohio except Tim Ryan.

UPDATE: Every House incumbent in Ohio got re-elected. It’s like the whole state rose up in unison and said “Government shutdowns? CISPA? Sounds good; do more of that.” Way to fail, Ohio.

The blog will return to its regular goofiness next week.

Yuumei – Glass Instruments

Hi, blog! It’s been a couple months! I almost forgot how to do these posts. Yuumei, designer of the original Cat Ear headphones, painted some musical instruments made of glass. I wonder how they would sound. Crystal flutes exist, and I imagine string instruments would sound pretty normal too. When hitting a drum with water in it, the air and the water would make two different sounds at the same time. Then there’s the fish tank piano, which would take physical strength to play but make super deep, eerie tones. Underwater performances are possible!

Magnetro – Marvel vs Capcom 2 - Ataraxia Combo Video

We’ve seen tool-assisted Marvel before, but Ataraxia takes it to new heights with camera hacks so we can see some previously offscreen setups. Combo scientists like Magnetro treat MvC2 like a puzzle game where they can create a bouncing Colossus, interruptable Ruby Heart supers, and Dhalsim’s rapid-fire turban attack. Leave it to Magnetro to put out a five minute video that takes a 38 minute video to explain.

16-Bit Bar+Arcade

I visited 16-Bit Bar+Arcade tonight, and I've never seen that many people in an arcade in Columbus. Most games are in excellent shape, and there are some unique cabinets like Baby Pac-Man and Slick Shot. Here are the new high scores on Gorf, Space Invaders, and Rally-X. I'll be coming for the others later. I hope they get a good 90s shmup in there soon.

Adam Ruins Everything

I love it when people quickly drop knowledge and debunk misconceptions with proper research, and we need it now more than ever. Here is Adam Conover, a comedian who can appear in any unfair situation and demolish it with cold hard facts whether you like it or not. This show started as a CollegeHumor series before getting a remake on Court TV or something.

Edit: CollegeHumor has better YouTube clips than truTV

UberNES - Nintendo Screen Saver

If you still use screen savers, Columbus-based developer M \ K Productions has a good one for you. Nintendo Saver 2015 fills your monitors with several NES games. Each one is actually a fully-functioning NES emulator playing a replay that was recorded in UberNES, and if you like, you can pick up a gamepad and take over control of one of the games on the spot. The recorded replays include my Super Mario Bros 3 playaround and a couple shorter videos showing glitches in Super Mario Bros 1 and Mega Man 2. If you like it, maybe I’ll record some more.
