Where'd Hitstun Go?
I’m OK! I’m mostly on Kbin and Lemmy and a little Mastodon and Discord. They’re like if Reddit or Twitter were general Internet services like email and not getting ruined by a dumb CEO. I don’t use other platforms much unless I’m checking on someone who only uses one platform.
Today is my birthday and people are visiting my old profiles today, so this post is for them. Family and work are keeping me plenty busy and I haven’t been keeping up with everybody else like I should. These crossposting WordPress posts are too much work and don’t really reach people anyway. Floating Is Fun is way easier to do. I really miss my weekly Twitch stream and I am planning my return as soon as my schedule allows for it. I have a lot to figure out, but I want to be there for everyone who wants to see me. Let’s play chess sometime.

Sometimes, SiIvaGunner’s crack team of mashup artists goes beyond the memes and makes something that’s really good on its own. This one combines Hideki Naganuma’s The Concept of Love from Jet Set Radio Future, Mariya Takeuchi’s Plastic Love from YouTube recommendations, and a few other songs. This was made for the final round of SiIvaGunner’s King for Another Day Tournament, which DJ Professor K won. I keep coming back to this banger, so it’s good enough to post here!

Tom Scott – How much helium does it take to lift a person?
About 1 liter of helium per gram of lift. To his credit, he says that right at the start, so it’s not clickbait. Anyway, I’d be remiss if I let this popular video go unmentioned here. We just found out about the Aéroplume in France which lets visitors strap into giant balloons and fly them around inside a WW1 giant airship hangar. It’s entirely powered by the user rowing themselves around with big wings like a kayak. Very simple, but I really want to own one of these someday.

Hitstun and DALL·E 2 – Me Playing Chess in No Game No Life
I tried to make a model of myself based on the closest celebrity lookalike I know, Ashton Kutcher, and adjusting it so it looks kinda like me in non-realistic styles. Dalle2Anime on Twitter gave me great tips for key words and including an artist name. I’ve had previous success in 2-step uncropping to make good-looking faces and I went with that approach again.
I originally wanted my character floating in the air because it’s me and I think Floating Is Fun, DALL·E 2 kept ignoring parts of my prompts, and it would always crop part of the character’s head out of the top of the image. After a lot of trial and error that cost too much money, I came to grips with DALL·E 2’s limitations on details. I settled for a chess game which makes sense in No Game No Life context anyway.

Oh cool, Bill Wurtz just popped up in my YouTube feed! Time for me to step away from my subreddit about floaty things for a minute and post this to my old social media places! I’ve been a huge gamer my whole life. Though recent changes have taken priority over games, I still play Wordle, lichess, and retro games. I miss my stream and I want to reboot the stream when I can.

After playing Wordle for three months and becoming a mod on /r/wordle, I’ve analyzed every possible starting word for greens, useful yellows, narrowing the solutions, and trap avoidance. Oh, hi blog! Katsu Somehira draws the illustrations for the seinen manga magazine Harta. This one rocketed to the top of /r/FloatingIsFun, besting another Katsu Somehira art and another garden in space. I'd totally move to a space station permanently, free from gravity forever. Of course, I'd like to bring my family and raise them in space as Newtypes.

Tool-Assisted Speedruns Out of Context
In only one week, @TASNoContext speedran becoming my new favorite Twitter account. TASVideos publisher EZGames69 posts short clips of old games freaking out when they receive frame-perfect sequences of gamepad input. Already, the tool-assisted madness has consumed Contra III, Sonic 2 and 3, Pokémon Yellow, UMK3, Donkey Kong 64, and dozens more.
Edit: In less than a year, the Twitter account is retired because some idiot billionaire bought Twitter and did his own speedrun of destroying it. Tool-Assisted Speedrun Clips has moved to Tumblr.

When foraging for /r/FloatingIsFun content, sometimes I find something with a special mass appeal. Katrina Yu is a crazy talented photomanipulation artist that loves levitation. This gallery on Bored Panda features her as a witch going about her daily life. There’s plenty more from her on Reddit, Behance, Flickr, Tumblr, Instagram, and Redbubble.
Have you ever wondered what witches do on their ordinary days? I like to think that they’re always there, living among us and witnessing the world’s ordinary miracles. So this for Halloween, I imagined a daily life of a witch and tried to recreate it through my work.

My subreddit Floating Is Fun
Hi, all! I’ve been away adapting to my new life as a dad. Reddit and its great RSS feeds have been helping me keep up with eclectic music fans, retro gamers, the FGC, CAP makers, dreamers, explainers, and otaku. Still, those don’t scratch my itch for a feeling of floating, so I made my own subreddit for that!
At Floating Is Fun, we play around with things that float in the air, real or fantasy, and it doesn’t take much work for me. If prolonged loss of contact with the floor sounds like a good time, come on in and give us a push!

Laoshu – Foreign Language Roadrunning
Yesterday, we lost a local legend. Moses “Laoshu” McCormick was a giant among polyglots, having developed his own Foreign Language Roadrunning method to practice and speak dozens of languages. He recently became internet famous for finding foreigners and surprising them with conversations in their native languages. I’m fortunate to have met Moses and Marcell at our local fighting game meetups and Asian Festivals, and I’m glad Moses could pass on his knowledge through his online courses.

Magnetro – Marvel vs Capcom 2 - Ataraxia Combo Video
We’ve seen tool-assisted Marvel before, but Ataraxia takes it to new heights with camera hacks so we can see some previously offscreen setups. Combo scientists like Magnetro treat MvC2 like a puzzle game where they can create a bouncing Colossus, interruptable Ruby Heart supers, and Dhalsim’s rapid-fire turban attack. Leave it to Magnetro to put out a five minute video that takes a 38 minute video to explain.

We made it through 2020! Better times await! Bill Wurtz disappeared for a year, and as it turns out, he spent the year learning Blender. This glorious 3D acid trip is just what we need. THPS 1+2 Donut Land
For the past two months, I’ve put an unhealthy amount of time on my PS4 building my Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 park, Donut Land. It’s a city with the size of a normal THPS2 level, filled to the brim with ramps, combos, tunnels, transfers, and giant gaps. It’s in the community’s hands now, so I’m curious to see what lines and remixes they come up with.

Happy 10th anniversary! We want to buy this precious little beat-’em-up, but it’s been delisted since 2014. This Anamanaguchi soundtrack is all we have left of it.
Update: Scott Pilgrim collected a 1up and is getting another digital release in 2020. I hope we get a physical release too. I don't want to lose this again.
