I always find it kind of weird that matriarchal cultures in fiction are always “women fight and hunt, men stay home and care for the babies” because world-building-wise, it makes no sense

think about it. like, assuming that gender even works the same in this fantasy culture as it does in ours, with gender conflated with sex (because let’s be real, all of these stories assume that), men wouldn’t be the ones to make the babies, so why would they be the ones to care for the babies? why is fighting and hunting necessary for leadership?

writing a matriarchy this way is just lazy, because you’re just taking the patriarchy and just swapping the people in it, rather than actually swapping the culture. especially when there are so many other cool things you could explore. like, what if it’s not a swap of roles but of what society deems important?

maybe a matriarchy would have hunting and fighting be part of the man’s job, but undervalued. like taking the trash out or cleaning toilets: necessary, but gross, and not noble or interesting. maybe farming is now the most important thing, and is given a lot of spiritual and cultural weight.

how would law work? what crimes would exist, and what things would be considered too trivial to make illegal? who gets what property? why?

how would religion work? how would you mark time or the passage into adulthood? what would marriage look like? if bloodlines are through the mother, bastardy wouldn’t even be a concept - how does that work?

what qualities would be most important in a person? how would you define strength or leadership? what knowledge would be the most coveted and protected? what acts or roles are considered useless or degrading?

like, you can’t just take our current society and say you’re turning it on its head when you’re just regurgitating it wholesale. you have to really think about why things are the way they are and change that.

Do this four times repeatedly and you’ll be out. But how does it work? There’s some real brain science behind it.

Dumb MDC Idea:

Nino/Adrien/Chloé sugar, Alya/Lila/class salt. Lukanette.

Nino breaks up with Alya after they get into a fight about Lila’s credibility, and he’s absolutely miserable, until he meets this girl, Emília at a music festival.

They start texting, and Nino’s friends keep on teasing him and asking him who she is and what she’s like etc.

Eventually, Nino tells them that they’re going on a first date!!! Precisely they’ve decided on this little café at 3pm next Saturday!

Marinette and Adrien want to make sure it goes smoothly, so a couple minutes after Nino and Emília walk into the café, they slip in as well, walking to the back so that Nino has his back to them and his date is in their line of sight, not too close that they’ll notice them but not too far that they’re out of ear shot.

10 minutes later, Luka walks in, and notices the two huddled in a corner trying not to be noticed. He walks over and when he gets to the booth, Marinette drags him down onto the bench and explains the situation.

Nino comes into school on Monday, talking about how fun his date was and how they’ve decided to do it again!!!

Luka, Marinette and Adrien all exchange eye contact...

They continue spying on Nino’s dates, making sure everything goes smoothly and cringing every time something goes wrong.

Eventually Chloé asks Adrien what’s going on and where he goes every Saturday. Adrien explains, and Chloé wants in.

So now there’s, Chloé, Luka, Adrien and Marinette all huddled around a booth every Saturday, spying and giggling over their friends love life. Invasive? Yes. Entertaining? Also yes. But they’re very happy that they haven’t been noticed yet.

Right?

One weekend, Emília arrives before Nino, and walks over to their booth.

Turns out she’s been noticing how they arrive at the same time as them, and always look suspicious-whats going on?

Marinette panics, and answers “WE’RE STARTING A FASHION BUSINESS!” “Really?” “YES-I’m head designer, Chloé and Luka are going to be models and Adrien’s PR?!”

Emília doesn’t buy it, but turns to leave anyway, only for Nino to arrive and walk over to the group, asking what their talking about.

His date explains “oh these lot are starting a fashion business!” Which Nino is surprised about, and is like “cool dudes, can’t wait to see what you come up with!”

The four are panicking, because either they

1) continue lying or

2) admit they’ve been spying on them

Neither of which they really want to do.

Until Chloé comes up with the idea of “why don’t we just make one? That way we won’t be lying, Marinette can start her own business, we all get work experience, and we might get some money out of it!”

They’re all a bit apprehensive, but um ok?!

And thus, MDC is born, all because they didn’t want to admit to Nino that they were spying on his love life...

So yeah that’s a dumb way for it to start up...

there is a tendency with history, i think, because we’re so far removed from it, to kind of forget that all of the people were people

a child 10,000 years ago left a handprint on a wall. they were fingerpainting. a viking climbs up a rock just to carve the words “this is very high” 10ft off the ground. somebody centuries… milennia… ago burned their dinner so thoroughly that they buried the ruined pot in the backyard rather than attempt to clean it. shakespeare got drunk and wrote dick jokes. tutankhamun was a little boy who liked ducks more than anything. a roman carves his name into a monument in another country saying “i was here”. a prisoner, centuries ago, in the tower of london scratches lines into the wall as a tally marking the days. a medieval monk scrawls in the margins bemoaning the boredom of his work.

every human being across history has said “i was here. i lived. i loved. i made something. i laughed. i cried. please do not forget me”

She's a lil' thief

Batfamily: *Somehow watching the TV like a normal family, Mari is cross-legged on the floor*

TV: Reports of a new cat theme thief has taken Gotham by storm, jewelry owners are encouraged to lock down their shops...

Batfamily, aside from Jason: *Stares at Jason*

Jason: *Looks down at Mari* Really funny guys, but it wasn't me. You're going to assume its me because I control the underground.

Marinette: *slides out from under their noses as Jason speaks only Alfred sees her*

Jason: You know, I have half the mind to report any of you to Gordon, but why do I want lose the blackmail material I have on you.

Marinette: *Takes Damian's katana, Tim's coffee mug (it was almost empty), Dick's motorcycle keys, and Bruce's sunglasses*

Jason: Like seriously, you're letting the actual thief get away with your stuff... You all disgust me.

Marinette: *Nowhere in the room, but there is a flash of light outside the window*

Jason: *Proudly smile as the batfam looks confused*

TV: Breaking news! The GCPD is on a high speed chase with the alleged cat themed thief in what looks to be on a black sports bike... and is that a katana on their back...what will they steal next?

Dick: That looks like my bike.

Damian: That's my katana!

Tim: *confused as he looks at where his cup was formerly placed at* Where's my coffee mug?

Bruce: *Sighs on the verge of breaking down*

• The  Louvre has a new ancient Egypt exhibit focused on cats

• Supposedly one of the pieces was worth 5 million alone!

• She got in without a problem only to discover another cat was already there

• oh my god he was so freaking adorable with his little cat ears and tail!

• Was he a meta? Maybe, but he definitely had powers

• But the poor thing is just there

• Sleeping

• he should be with his family!

• So forget the loot she's stealing something way more valuable

• A son!

• And she did she stole him

• She did of digging and apparently her little kitten is a hero

• A hero who uses cat puns!!! Just like her!

• And he is skilled

• but he can be better!

Adrien

•When Adrien wakes up he's confused

• He fell asleep at the museum where is he?

• did he get arrested? Or should he say Agrested

• Then Selina comes in and introduces herself and he starts fangirling

• After all where do you think he got the idea of cat puns from?

• Cue Ladybug bursting in

• She's screaming about who dares to kidnap her sunshine kitty

• And then she sees Selina and just stares at her before fangirling about her fashion sense

• Apparently Selina's like the only villain, vigilante, or rouge in Gotham with any fashion sense

• And then LB ask Cat freaking Woman if she would like to adopt them

• Adrien is done

• Selina would make a good miraculous holder maybe the tiger?

Jason ends up in Gotham when he’s dead – post-funeral, pre-triumphant return – where no one knows who he is. Everything looks different from this perspective: Dick’s a fucking mess and not as experienced as Jason remembered. He fights with Bruce more than Jason does. And then there’s infant-Robin-Tim, who is very bad at pretending not to be connected to Dick Grayson, socialite, when Jason threatens to get a little rough.

(Also, holy shit, does Dick reflexively flirt with any authoritative morally ambiguous older man who gives him a real challenge? Did Jason know that? Does Dick know that?)

Well, his family still drives him nuts. That’s the same.

Cité des Démons; Part 3

Summary: The Dupain-Chengs have had enough of Paris, they’re tired of their daughter being bullied by those she once called her friends. In an effort to escape the pain of Paris they move to the most crime ridden city in the world for a spice of something new.

Note: I changed the year things happened if you couldn’t tell. Instead of becoming Ladybug at thirteen it happened at the age of twelve. This part is Marinette explaining to the Bats (minus Barbara) about her past, what happened in Paris, and why she should help them.

Marinette had given both Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson, otherwise known as Batman and Robin respectively, when she jumped off a building the first time only to have a yoyo appear at her side and used as a grappling hook. When they met on a roof a bit away she just laughed at their stunned faces, taking a bit of pride in it. The girl missed free running but Gotham wasn’t her territory and she wasn’t going back to Paris unless the Akumas come back. She seriously was having withdrawls when it came to the lack of a superhero identity.
