Lucid Dreaming Masterpost

What is Lucid Dreaming?

Lucid dreaming is when you are in a dream but fully aware that you are in a dream, leading to you often being able to control the outcomes or certain aspects of the dream. You are able to live your fantasies and also are more likely to remember your dreams come morning.

With work Lucid dreaming can be improved into astral projection via sleep or dream walking where you can exit your dreams to enter the dreams of others or walk about the “dream plane”. Skilled lucid dreamers also often use their dreams for divination and problem solving due to how vivid they are and how it is easier to remember them.

Other things to achieve Lucid Dreaming:

Keep a dream journal and write in it regularly.

Interpret the meanings behind your dreams after recording them

Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and smoking cigarettes before bed

Keep a regular sleeping schedule

Sleep in complete darkness if possible

Meditate before going to sleep

Openly state before you go to bed “I will lucid dream tonight” and repeat this either out-loud or in your mind as you get ready for bed. When you lay in bed continue focused on that in your mind

Along with that before bed tell yourself, preferably in a mirror if it helps, that you will remember your dreams come morning

Do “reality checks” meaning in your dream check to see if you are dreaming. If you see mirrors, see if you can see the background behind you or if it is misty/blurry. If see a clock look at it, look away, then look back, often in dreams the time will change. This is the same for signs and street signs. You can also before going to bed mark up your hand with ink and in your dream look down and see if it is there still. If its not you know you’re dreaming. Look down at your feet, often in dreams they will seem oddly unfocused. If you see a bookshelf, see if any of the book titles are visible or repeat.

Okay, I know I am dreaming, now what do I do?

Well now you practice. It is rare to immediately be able to control your dreams completely. To gain full control you need to practice. Start small and take baby steps. Try hopping in place in your dream, see if you can make yourself hover for even just a second. Keep at it, try to float in place longer and longer with each jump. In time and with practice and patience you will be able to soar through your dreams one night and it’s easy from there. If you come across a locked door try opening it while saying out loud “this door is unlocked”. Keep at it, because hopefully you will be able to open it soon enough.

Start talking to the ‘characters’ in your dreams. Try to influence their behavior such as suggesting they do something. You can also approach a ‘stranger’ in your dream and see what happens if you state that you two are friends. If they start acting as if they know you and are indeed your friend, you know you have improved your control.

Take notes in your dream journal on these tests. Write down if they failed or succeeded and keep at it. With time you will be able to change things in your dreams with ease.

The Positives of Lucid Dreaming:

You can control your dreams! That is just awesome, you can live out things you can’t do in real life.

Prevent or stop nightmares, when you are lucid dreaming you can just tell whatever is causing you the nightmare to ‘fuck off’ and usually they will. Nightmares can be quickly changed into enjoyable dreams

For artists and story writers, dreams can really inspire you and help you test out your ideas

Deity communication, for those who do worship deities you can communicate or even interact with them in your dreams if you welcome them in.

I have seen a few witchblr post about using your own alphabet, and so I wanted to tell you the application FontForge is a free tool for creating your own fonts. If you have knowledge of graphic design, you can do really professional looking fonts, but if you’re a nob like me you can still create something both usable and good looking like this:

The developer(s) seem very kind people and work hard for having this tool free and open, and you can find very useful tutorials on youtube. Plus, you can add both symbols and letters with accent marks:

This is the working panel. What I did was using the straight line and the curve line and work with that, but you also have more tools, so you can experiment (in my case i didn’t want to spend a lot of time and wanted something that looked more like handwrite than a computer font, but that’s up to you!)

The only important thing is that you have to draw closed figures (you can’t just use one line). 

After you have the font done you can just save it for later edit and and add it to your writting software of preference. I don’t remember how it is done as I used a youtube tutorial, but I do remember it took less than 5 mins, bcause you only have to save+upload.

Iron

Iron in any form or shape has always been considered the very best protection against fae – in almost all legends, the metal is like kryptonite to Superman. If you kept an iron nail in your pocket, you couldn’t be carried away by them. Sometimes iron nails were sewn into the hems of children’s clothing for that reason. A pair of iron shears hung on the wall near a baby’s bed was said to prevent the child from being swapped for an ugly fae baby.

Steel

Steel is also effective against the faeries because it is created from processed iron. If a faery is cut by a steel or iron blade, the wound will not heal or will take a very long time. In some stories, the Fae is slowly poisoned by such a wound. Steel or iron weapons are among the few things that can actually kill a Fae being.

However, unless it was plainly self-defense (and sometimes even that wouldn’t help your case), you could expect the rest of the faeries to exact a terrible retribution!

Horseshoes

You can put one above the main entrance of your house and it will help protect the entire home. For added protection, put iron near any opening a person could go through. If you have large windows, you may want to place some nails near it to make a barrier. You can do the same with your dog’s house to keep the fairies out.

Bells & Chimes

Bells were also said to have frightened off evil faeries in Medieval Ireland and elsewhere in Europe. Specifically the big, deep-sounding Church bells that would ring to draw the people to Church. So this theory can be applied to your home by hanging deep-toned chimes on your front or back porch or by using deep sounding bells during magickal ritual.

Food

Traditionally, bread and salt provided protection from the Fae. Carrying yeast-risen bread with you had a two-fold effect. It would repel some faeries. Other faeries would accept it as an offering and leave you alone.

My gramma taught me a Welsh tradition of leaving a saucer of milk and a slice of bread or some bread crusts on the back porch as an offering to the faeries, so they wouldn’t play pranks on the family or trouble the livestock. Sometimes, if you were seeking the faeries’ aid, you might add berries, honey, or cheese.

Even humble oatmeal was believed to be a fairy repellent. You could carry a handful of dry oatmeal in your pocket or sprinkle it on your clothes. As long as you didn’t mind looking flaky, you’d be safe.

Salt

Salt’s association with purity made it an excellent tool against otherworldly beings. Spreading salt across the threshold and along the windowsills has long been the primary method of keeping faeries, demons, and spirits out of houses. If you had to carry food to the farmhands in the fields, sprinkling it with salt was said to keep the faeries from taking it – or from extracting the nourishment from it unseen!

Offerings

Leave a pail of fresh milk, butter, or cream outside of your front door on the eight holy days to appease the fae and keep them from wreaking havoc on garden and home. Leaving faery offerings and libations dates back hundreds of years, and if you have any Celtic ancestors, you probably have ancestors who partook in this tradition. Some people in Europe still do! This is a preventative method of protection from trickster and evil fairies. Make them happy at the back door so they don’t intrude.

Plants

Historically, garlands were often made of marsh marigolds and hung over the barn doors to protect the horses from being ridden to exhaustion by faeries in the night. Flowers, especially primroses, were spread over windowsills and hung above the door-posts of the house for safety. Your best bet, however, was a plant called St. John’s Wort. Wearing it was said to provide strong protection from fairy magic and mischief.

Fairies could vanish at will and remain invisible to mortal eyes for as long as they pleased. Carrying a four-leafed clover would allow you to see the faeries – but only once. A Celtic tradition was to sew several of the clovers into a tiny bag to be worn around the neck. You could then discern the faeries once for each clover in the bag. In some legends, the clover was said to allow you to see through fairy glamors and magical disguises.

Red berries were believed to keep fae at bay, especially if they were from rowan trees, mountain ash or holly. So did red verbena (a flower). Daisies were often tucked into children’s pockets or woven into fanciful chains to wear around their necks to prevent them from being taken away by the fae. And if you were walking through the woods, it was best to carry a walking stick or staff made of ash or rowan wood.

Protection Charm

At this season, the Winter Court is in rule and you will want to look out for malicious, harmful beings in your interactions with the fae. You can make yourself a protection charm using:

An Iron Nail

Ancestral & Deity Protection

One of the MOST effective forms of protection against evil faeries (and other spirits in general) is to invite your ancestors and gods into your home. Once your guides and guardians take up residence in your home, they do most of the work of keeping out negative forces like evil fairies and the like. In fact, my ancestors are SO good at protection, I have to ask their permission to allow any other spirits inside the home!

Faery Box

Decorate a small box by painting it and gluing on glitter or plastic gems. Inside place leaves, pinecones, crystals, and plants. Add a piece of felt or fleece in the centre as a soft bed you can add essential oil to. Draw a sigil on it that will protect you from harmful fae. At night, light a fake candle by the box, and leave out some food.

Make sure to protect yourself from negative influence. Then invite those of good intention to see the place you’ve prepared for them to rest in, and stay with you through the night if they wish to. Leave the candle on, as long as it’s a fake one, and then go to bed.

The Circle Of Light

Another effective yet simple technique of faery protection consists of using one’s mind and energy. If you are used to using visualization in your meditations, rituals, and spells, this method of fae protection should be familiar to you. It’s what I like to call the Circle of Light.

You can do this visualization exercise any time of the day, any day of the week and as often as you’d like. For me particularly, I do it every night as I’m lying in bed and before I go to sleep to continue to build the circle’s strength around my home

Running Water

Fae folk are unable to cross streams and rivers, so in any pursuit leaping from bank to bank will be a sure escape for the hunted human. Water courses running south are said to be especially efficacious.

Oddly, nevertheless, fae seem to have no objection to still water. They actively seek it out for washing themselves and they are from time to time associated with wells. For example John Rhys in Celtic folklore (1901, p.147 & chapter 6) notes the existence of several ‘faery wells’ in Wales which demanded attention from local people, in the absence of which they would overflow or flood.

Hag Stones

According to John Aubrey, if a person could locate stones through which natural erosion had created a hole, they could protect their horses from night-riding by fae by hanging the stones over each horse’s manger in the stables- or by tying the stone to the stable key. The fairies would not then be able to pass underneath.

Runen Bedeutung Fehu

Fehu ist die Rune für: Reichtum und Vollendung

Die Rune Fehu verkörpert materiellen Besitz, den man durch Fleiß und Fähigkeiten erworben hat. Sie entspricht dem materiellen Glück, welches ein Gefühl von Wohlstand vermittelt. Es gilt diesen Reichtum sinnvoll einzusetzen und auch an das Wohl anderer zu denken.

1. Rune Fehu - Rinder, Vieh

Als Sinnbild stellt die Rune Fehu eine Viehherde dar. Zur damaligen Zeit der Wikinger war der Besitz einer Rinderherde nicht nur persönlicher Reichtum, sondern auch eine grundlegende Nahrungsquelle. Mit ihr konnte die Familie versorgt werden, aber auch Handel betrieben. Somit war das Vieh nicht nur ein Zeichen des sozialen Standes. Es ging auch um das Wohl der Gemeinschaft.

Fehu entspricht dem monatlichen Verdienst oder dem Besitz, den man sich durch eigene Mühen und Einsatz erworben hat oder daran noch arbeitet. Eine Situation entwickelt sich positiv und wird von Dauer sein, wenn man mit seinen körperlichen, geistigen und finanziellen Ressourcen sorgsam umgeht.

Die negativen Aspekte von Fehu zeigen sich durch Gier und Leichtsinn. Dann können sich Verluste und finanzielle Probleme ankündigen.

Magische Runen Wirkung

Die Rune Fehu zieht die Macht von Sonne, Mond und den Sternen an, stärkt die psychischen Kräfte. Sie fördert die persönliche und gesellschaftliche Weiterentwicklung und vergrößert den finanziellen Reichtum, die Herde oder das Land.

Spirituelle Runen Bedeutung

Die Macht von Fehu kommt direkt aus der Quelle des kosmischen Feuers. Sie symbolisiert die beiden Extreme Erschaffung und Zerstörung, der evolutionären Kräfte.

Die Hasel - mythologische Interpretation

Wirkung und Wesen:

Schon seit Jahrtausenden war der Haselstrauch für die Menschen ein bedeutender Baum – nicht nur wegen seiner wertvollen Früchte! Ähnlich wie der Holunder der „Frau Holle“ war auch der Haselstrauch ein beseeltes Wesen und wurde ehrfürchtig „Frau Haselin“ genannt und mit viel Respekt behandelt. Kein Wunder, wenn man sich sein Wesen einmal genauer anschaut, denn er hat Einiges zu bieten! ...

Energie leiten:

Recht bekannt ist die Verwendung von Haselnussholz zur Herstellung von Wünschelruten. Dieses Holz war das Holz erster Wahl, da die Haselnuss ein sehr guter Energieleiter ist, mit deren Hilfe in Form eines gegabelten Zweiges auf die Suche nach Wasser gegangen wurde. Auch heute gibt es noch Rutengeher, die dieses Holz verwenden. Ich selbst habe es auch schonmal probiert, allerdings nicht mit Hasel. Und dennoch konnte ich zuverlässig Wasser und Salz finden.

Auch als Zauberstab wurde Haselholz sehr häufig benutzt, z.B. für Wetterzauber.

Aufgrund seiner Eigenschaft, auch Gedanken und deren Vermittlung zu fördern, waren, so Storl, die Thing-Plätze der Germanen mit Haselstäben umzäunt. Bei den Kelten spielte er eine Schlüsselrolle, was man u.a. an Legenden erkennt, in denen es um die „Quelle der Weisheit, umgeben von den 9 Haselbäumen“ geht. Der Lachs (ein Weisheits-Symbol) lebte in dieser Quelle und aß von den ins Wasser gefallenen Nüssen. Für jede Haselnuss, die er verspeiste, erschien ein Punkt auf seiner Haut. Wer den Lachs aß, nahm diese Weisheit in sich auf.

Vermittler zwischen den Welten:

Als Symbol für Weisheit und das Erspüren und Leiten von Energien ist der Hasel auch ein Baum des Übergangs und ein Mittler zwischen den Welten. Er ist ein Baum, der mit den Elementen Wasser und Luft sowie dem Untergrund assoziiert ist und uns dabei hilft, die Quelle des Seins zu ergründen und aus dieser Weisheit zu schöpfen. Er wächst gern auf gekreuzten Wasseradern und ist nicht nur deswegen ein symbolischer Wächter der Pforte, der eine enge Beziehung zur Anderswelt hat. Und er hat auch einen spannenden „Untermieter“, denn in seinen Wurzeln soll eine weiße Schlange mit einer goldenen Krone wohnen – diese scheint in ihrer Herkunft mit dem keltischen Weisheit verwandt, da auch ihr Verzehr mit Weisheit beschenken soll: Wer ein Stück von ihr isst, der „wird die Sprache der Tiere verstehen, mit den Zwergen und Naturgeistern reden und sämtliche Heilpflanzen erkennen können“, so Storl („Die alte Göttin der Pflanzen“, S. 185).

Fruchtbarkeitssymbol:

Seine reichhaltigen, nahrhaften Früchte sowie sein frühes Blühen im Jahreskreis verraten es: Er steht auch für Fruchtbarkeit. Daher hatten Haselruten u.a. zur Wintersonnenwende sowie zu Ostara einen festen Platz in den Feiern zum Segnen von Feld und Tieren, die so auch mit Gesundheit beschenkt werden sollten. Auch bei Hochzeiten waren Haselnüsse ein beliebtes Geschenk an die Braut, das viele Kinder bescheren sollte. ...

Der Hasel ist in der germanischen Welt eine uralte Zauberpflanze mit vielen kultischen Bedeutungen.

Man nahm ein Stückchen seines Holzes mit, wenn man auf weitere Reisen ging, um beschützt zu sein – ebenso, wenn man auf gefährlichen Wegen und bei Nacht unterwegs war.

In Siebenbürgen war es ein Brauch von Soldaten, bevor sie in den Krieg ziehen mussten, ein Schutzamulett aus Haselholz anzufertigen: Man „teilte einen an Johanni geschnittenen Haselzweig zwischen 11 und 12 Uhr Mitternacht in sieben, etwa 1-2 Zoll lange Stückchen“.

Der Hasel schützt vor bösen Geistern, der Teufelsjagd und in Rumänien auch vor Vampiren.

Aus seinem Holz wurden Tinkturen und Öl gegen angehexte Krankheiten angefertigt. Hierfür muss das Holz „gesammelt werden, wenn die Sonne im Widder steht, oder 2-3 Tage vor dem Neumond“.

Kühe und andere Tiere wurden damit gefüttert und gesegnet, um sie zu schützen und fruchtbar zu machen.

Auch im Kräuterbuschen fanden ein Haselzweig sowie 3 Haselnüsse Verwendung.

Er war eine stark gewitterabwehrende Pflanze. Seine Zweige wurden auch bei Gewitter an die Fenster gesteckt (siehe oben: ein guter Energieleiter!). Ebenso wurden Haselkätzchen bei Gewitter zum Schutz des Hauses in das Herdfeuer geworfen.

Haselnüsse schenkte man zu Weihnachten und Neujahr als Zeichen der Liebe.

Viele Haselnüsse im Herbst bedeuten viele Kinder im nächsten Jahr und unfruchtbare Frauen wurden mit Haselzweigen berührt.

Viele Haselnüsse deuten ebenfalls auf einen strengen, kalten Winter.

Der Haselstrauch steht in Verbindung mit unterirdischen Schätzen.

In der Volksmagie fand der Haselstrauch Verwendung für Krankheitszauber und Liebesorakel.

Die Hasel war ein Glücks-, Schutz und Lebensbaum.

Der Haselstrauch ist der Zauberbaum der Germanen und Kelten. Viele Märchen, unter anderem Aschenputtel, beschreiben die magische Wirkung des Haselstrauchs. Der Stab »gandr« ist zuerst einmal ein Haselstab. Haseln wachsen sehr gerade und geben auch gute Wanderstöcke ab. Das magische Holz der Hasel gibt im Ritualfeuer Antworten auf Fragen, die magische Nuss heilt Gebrechen. Im Orakel steht die Hasel für die Kraft der Magie und die Verbindung zu Elementargeistern.

„Sterben soll, wer Heide bleiben will“. ~Karl der Große~

Die Ausrottung heidnischer Gebräuche

Um den Heiden Herr zu werden, erließ Karl der Große im Jahre 782 die berühmt-berüchtigte Capitulatio de partibus Saxoniae, einen verbindlichen Gesetzestext mit dem Charakter der Zwangschristianisierung. In 34 Paragraphen legte der Besatzer Sachsens fest, was den heidnischen Germanen fortan gestattet und verboten war. Wer sich widersetzte, wurde mit dem Tod bestraft: Ein großer Teil der Paragraphen leitet mit der Phrase ein „Sterben soll, wer...‘ oder „Todesstrafe erleidet, wer...“ sowie „Dem geht es an Kopf und Kragen, der...“. Die Capitulatio de partibus Saxoniae ist ein Paradebeispiel für brutales Besatzungsrecht. Per Dekret war nun verboten, „Götzendienst“ zu treiben und die alten Götter zu verehren: Die „heidnische Sitte“ und der „heidnische Brauch“ wurden kriminalisiert. „Stammesversammlungen“ waren illegal, wenn nicht ein „Pfarrer“ sie bewachte. Es war verboten, an „Quellen, Bäumen oder Hainen“ Opfer darzubringen, ein „Gemeinschaftsmahl zu Ehren der Götzen“ zu veranstalten und „nach heidnischem Brauch Leichen“ zu bestatten. Die „Wahrsager‘ und „Zauberer“ sollten „den Kirchen und den Pfarrem ausgeliefert“ werden, weil sie Teufelsdiener seien, um von denselben öffentlich hingerichtet zu werden. Von nun an waren alle Heiden dazu angehalten, sich entweder taufen zu lassen oder zu sterben. So heißt es schwarz auf weiß im Paragraphen 8 dieses Gesetzestextes:

„Sterben soll, wer Heide bleiben will und unter den Sachsen sich verbirgt, um nicht getauft zu werden oder es verschmäht, zur Taufe zu gehen“.

Die Capitulatio de partibus Saxoniae war „ein drakonischer Strafkatalog mit dem Doppelziel der Ausrottung heidnischer Gebräuche und der Zerschlagung der sächsischen Verfassung, in dem praktisch alles mit der Todesstrafe belegt wurde. [...] Politische und kirchliche Zwangsmaßnahmen sind hier nicht mehr voneinander zu trennen, und mit christlichen Grundsätzen lassen sie sich kaum vereinbaren. Karl machte damit unmißverständlich klar: Die Grenze ist geschlossen, in den Provinzen des Frankenreichs ist nur noch der Kult der christlichen Kirche zulässt.’

Im Folgenden ist der Gesetzestext vollständig abgedruckt:

Capitulatio de partibus Saxoniae

l. Alle stimmen dem Prinzip der höheren Fälle zu, daß die Kirchen Christi in Sachsen nicht geringere, sondern erheblich höhere Geltung haben sollen als die Götzenstätten.

2. Wenn jemand Zuflucht in der Kirche sucht, soll er dort bis zu seiner Gerichtsverhandlung sicher sein, und niemand soll wagen, ihn mit Gewalt herauszuholen. Wegen der Ehre Gottes und der Heiligen, denen die betreffende Kirche geweiht ist, soll es dem Asylanten vor Gericht nicht an Kopf und Kragen gehen, sondern er soll seine Tat gemäß dein Urteilsspruch mit Geld büßen, soweit er es kann. Dann soll er vor den König geführt werden, und der wird ihn dorthin stecken, wohin es seiner königlichen Gnade gefällt.

3. Sterben soll, wer gewaltsam eine Kirche erstürmt und in ihr mit Gewalt oder mit Diebsgriff etwas wegnimmt oder die Kirche in Flammen aufgehen läßt.

4. Sterben soll, wer die vierzigtägigen Fasten vor Ostern in Verachtung des christlichen Glaubens bricht und Fleisch ißt. Aber es soll vom Priester geprüft werden, ob er nicht durch Not gezwungen war, Fleisch zu essen.

5. Sterben soll, wer einen Bischof, einen Priester oder einen Diakon tötet.

6. Todesstrafe erleidet der, der vom Teufel getäuscht, nach heidnischer Sitte wähnt, irgendein Mann oder eine Frau sei Hexe und Menschenfresser und sie deshalb verbrennt oder deren Fleisch verzehrt bzw. zum Verzehr weitergibt.

7. Todesstrafe erleidet der, der nach heidnischen Brauch Leichen bestattet, indem er den Körper den Flammen preisgibt.

8. Sterben soll, wer Heide bleiben will und unter den Sachsen sich verbirgt, um nicht getauft zu werden oder es verschmäht, zur Taufe zu gehen.

9. Sterben soll, wer einen Menschen dem Teufel opfert und nach heidnischer Sitte den Götzen als Opfer darbringt.

10. Sterben soll, wer mit den Heiden Ränke gegen die Christen schmiedet oder bei ihnen als Feind der Christen ausharren will. Und wer ihn dabei gegen König und Christenheit unterstützt, soll ebenfalls sterben.

ll. Dem geht es an Kopf und Kragen, der dem König als untreu erscheint.

12. Sterben soll, wer die Tochter seines Herren raubt.

13. Genauso soll bestraft werden, wer seinen Herrn oder seine Herrin tötet.

14. Von der Todesstrafe in vorstehenden Fällen kann nach Zeugnis des Geistlichen abgesehen werden, falls der Betreffende freiwillig zum Priester geflohen war und die heimlich begangenen Taten gebeichtet hatte und Buße leisten wollte.

15. Was die niedrigeren Fälle angeht, so stimmen alle darin überein, daß einer jeden Kirche ein Haupthof und zwei Hufen Landes von den Einwohnern eines Gaues, die zu jener Kirche gehören, übertragen werde, und daß je 120 Einwohner sowohl Edelinge als auch Frilinge und Laten, einen Knecht und eine Magd für diese Kirche beisteuern sollen.

16. Und es entspricht christlichem Gebot, daß allenthalben von allen königlichen Einkünften, auch von den Friedens- und Strafgeldern, der zehnte Teil den Kirchen und Priestern zustehen soll.

17. In gleicher Weise schreiben wir göttlichem Gebot gemäß vor, daß alle den Zehnt von ihrem Vermögen und ihrer Arbeit den Kirchen und Geistlichen abliefern sollen, und zwar sowohl die Edelinge als auch die Frilinge und die Laten; denn was Gott einem jeden Christen schenkt, muß zum Teil Gott wiedergegeben werden.

18. An den Sonntagen sollen keine öffentlichen Zusammenkünfte und Gerichtsverhandlungen stattfinden, wenn es nicht große Not oder feindliche Angriffe erfordern. Denn am Sonntag sollen alle zur Kirche gehen, beten und Gottes Wort hören. Genauso soll es an den hohen Kirchenfesten gehalten werden.

19. Entsprechend erscheint es sinnvoll, in diese Vorschriften einzufügen, daß alle Kinder innerhalb eines Jahres getauft werden. Wir setzen fest, daß derjenige, der ohne Erlaubnis des Pfarrers dieses verschmäht, dem „fiscus“ als Edeling 120 sol., als Friling 60 sol. und als Late 30 sol. zur Buße zu zahlen hat.

20. Wer eine verbotene oder unerlaubte Ehe eingeht, zahlt als Edeling 60, als Friling 30 und als Late 15 sol.

21. Wer Gelübde nach heidnischem Brauch an Quellen, Bäumen oder Hainen darbringt oder nach heidnischem Brauch opfert und ein Gemeinschaftsmahl zu Ehren der Götzen veranstaltet, zahlt als Edeling 60, als Friling 30, als Late 15 sol. Und wenn er das Geld nicht hat, soll er es im Dienste der Kirche abarbeiten.

22. Wir befehlen, daß die christlichen Sachsen in den Kirchhöfen und nicht auf den heidnischen Grabhügeln bestattet werden.

23. Die Wahrsager und Zauberer sollen den Kirchen und den Pfarrern ausgeliefert werden.

24. Wenn jemand Räuber und Übeltäter, die von einer Grafschaft in die andere geflohen sind, in seinen Schutz nimmt und sieben Nächte beherbergt ohne Absicht, sie vor Gericht zu stellen, zahle er unsere Bannbuße. Das gleiche muß auch der Graf tun, wenn er sich deswegen nicht entschuldigen kann, und er verliert darüber hinaus sein Amt.

25. Niemand soll sich unterstehen, einen anderen in Pfandknechtschaft zu halten, und wer das tut, zahle die Bannbuße.

26. Niemand soll sich bei gleicher Strafe unterstehen, einem Menschen zu verbieten, sein Recht vor uns zu suchen.

27. Wenn jemand keine Bürgen stellen kann, soll sein Vermögen solange in Beschlag genommen werden, bis er einen Bürgen stellt. Wenn er aber in der Zwischenzeit wagt, sein Haus zu betreten, zahlt er entweder 10 sol. oder einen Ochsen für die Verletzung des Bannes und zahlt darüber hinaus seine Schuld Wenn aber der Bürge den festgesetzten Termin nicht einhält, dann hat er selbst gemäß seiner Bürgschaft für den Schaden einzustehen. Der Schuldner aber muß dem Bürgen das Doppelte dessen erstatten, was der Bürge durch ihn an Schaden erlitten hatte.

28. Wer Bestechungsgelder von Unschuldigen annimmt, verfällt unserem Königsbann, und wenn er, was hoffentlich nicht passiert, ein Graf ist, verliert er sein Amt.

29. Alle Grafen sollen untereinander Frieden und Eintracht halten; und wenn unter Umständen Streit zwischen ihnen ausbricht, sollen sie sich auf unsern Beistand und unsere Entscheidung verlassen.

30. Wenn jemand einen Grafen tötet oder seine Beseitigung plant, fällt sein Erbe dem König zu, in dessen Gewalt er ausgeliefert werden muß.

31. Wir geben den Grafen die Kompetenz, bis zu 60 sol. in ihrem Amt Bannbußen wegen Fehdehandlungen oder Hochgerichtsfällen zu verhängen, und bis zu 15 sol. (von Schwerin liest 12) in den geringeren Fällen.

32. Wer einem anderen Mann einen Eid leistet, soll dies am Altar der Kirche an einem festgesetzten Tage tun; und wenn er es verschmäht zu schwören, schließe er einen Vertrag und büße 15 sol., wenn er säumig bleibt, und daraufhin soll er seine Schulden völlig tilgen.

33. Der Meineid wird gemäß sächsischen Gesetz bestraft.

34. Wir untersagen, daß alle Sachsen Stammesversammlungen abhalten, falls nicht unser Königsbote auf unseren Befehl hin sie aufbietet. jeder unserer Grafen soll vielmehr in seinem Amt die Versammlungen abhalten und Recht sprechen, und Pfarrer sollen darüber wachen, daß er sich entsprechend verhält.

Learning alchemical correspondences

What’s neat about alchemy is that if you know a little about it, you can immediately apply the knowledge because so many magical, scientific and other disciplines were and still are built on basic alchemical principles. This isn’t about whether or not alchemy is right or wrong, just about its place in the evolution of our thought and art and sciences. You will it everywhere because it’s been around… and knowing how to read its tracks will help you understand a lot of things!

For instance, the shorthand of alchemy is used a lot in many places in magic and history. You can find it in heraldry, where it also bridges into the history of important aristocratic houses, and you will find it in chemistry, where it defines our earliest understandings of the behavior of metals and materials. You will especially find it in descriptions and charts dealing with spirits and magical ingredients, or names and descriptions of magical items.

So, here is a list of seven things you can look for that will give you alchemical knowledge about whatever subject is referencing alchemy. If you’re researching historical subjects, it’s especially useful because the further in the past you go, the more you’ll find people depending on alchemical knowledge, because at one time it was all we had. If you understand the thinking of the writers, you can understand their writing more, and find hidden references. You’ll also be more likely to pick up on the things they forgot to explain because they assumed some knowledge would be common to the everyday reader that no longer is. And you’ll know that if a ritual is supposed to be on a certain day of the week, and it asks for iron tools and red decor, you’ll be doing it on a Tuesday, and you’ll know that because you’ll know how to recognize Mars in a ritual.

I’m going to identify the metal, the day of the week, and the color. I say ‘color of decor’ to mean altar cloths, text color, colors of flowers and gems… etc. I’ve listed the colors I’ve often found “in the wild” in different correspondence charts and magical systems–it’s usually determined by what ink colors the author/culture had at their disposal, so don’t stress yourself out on getting it perfect. Once you have these basic correspondences down, you’ll be able to find many more.

Gold

Gold is the metal of the Sun. Sunday is the day that corresponds. The color of decor can vary from yellow to white to gold, depending on the constraints of your palette.

(Since Venus is copper, sometimes your palette’s limits may mean that the Sun is white, Venus is yellow, etc. You’ll find similar behavior with Mercury’s color associations.)

Quicksilver

Quicksilver is the metal of Mercury. Wednesday is the day that corresponds. The color of decor can vary–grey or silver or iridescent is typical, with some way that it is contrasted from the Moon.

(By the way, if you need a shortcut for remembering days of the week and which correspond to which metal, just look at them in French! Here’s a table.)

Iron

Iron is the metal of Mars. Tuesday is the day that corresponds. (Mardi Gras is always on a Tuesday!) The color of decor will be red. Iron is what makes dyes and paints–and blood–red, in fact.

Silver

Silver is the metal of the Moon. Monday is the day that corresponds. The color of decor will be silver or blue, depending on your palette’s constraints, and there’s the option of using white if the Sun isn’t doing that.

Copper

Copper is the metal of Venus. Friday is the day that corresponds. The color of decor will be copper or orange–gold/brass will work if it doesn’t conflict with other planets. (This last part only refers to the color brass. If you use the metal brass instead of copper, that can create conflicts, so be aware of that.)

Tin

Tin is the metal of Jupiter, so put on your tinfoil hat. Thursday is the day that corresponds. The color of decor will typically be green for Jupiter, which gives you a real break from having to find yet another shade of grey or silver in this system.

Lead

Lead is the metal of Saturn. Saturday is the corresponding day. The color of decor should be black or a dark color like purple, just goth it right the heck up.

This is why magicians end up keeping so many correspondence charts–you can find plenty of associations to add with just this basic set of information to start from, I’m sure, and every magician has their set of correspondences they prefer. You’ll find various systems that build on or copy off of this system, or that modify and mutate it. From it, you can also see the structures that make up a base foundation for a creative, scientific and magical system.
