i ended up not doing topo yesterday and made an animation of a lipschitz function instead:
i'm kinda proud of it even though it's messy. had so much fun with it. maybe i'll do some more today
but i want to do that topo content i planned to do so we'll see. i also need to do some coding and finish an art comission

ok so it's been very busy for me for the past few days. we made the yt video with bf and i finally moved out from my parents
concentration: 4 (recently)
i did some topo but not in a very by-the-book way, more like just reading some interesting stuff in various places. homotopy is super fascinating and visual, i love it. other than that i read about other basic concepts such as compact spaces, connected spaces and axioms of countability. i used to read about the aforementioned axioms a while ago and think "why would you even define something like this why does it matter" but after reading topology by jänich i have the intuition that the first axiom is strongly related to the convergence of sequences, hence knowing that the space is first-countable might be useful for evaluating things like the continuity of mappings and compactness
now, i also have a book called elementary concepts of topology by alexandroff and i can't stop reading it, i'm on the page 20 out of 60 since yesterday. and i think i might finish it today but i'll see. i also want to study 1-dimensional manifolds today or tomorrow
I think "high value person" can be interpreted as "someone who is liked by everyone and perfectly adheres to social norms" but also as "someone who wants to find their core values and to this end tries many different approaches" and many other things. some of the things listed are pretty good, such as "take care of themselves" or "doesn't equate their worth to sex", some are unnecessary: "perfected first impressions" or "ALWAYS well-dressed". naah, who cares lol
the thing with self-improvement or other forms of conscious existing (I just invented this term, by that I mean something like chosing which parts of oneself to keep and which to change) is that one must start somewhere. it's nice, in general, to have social relationships, sex life or hobbies and I see this list as a guideline for increasing the probability of achieving those and other things in a certain way
in my opinion it's really important to keep in check with oneself, ask if the cost of being likeable and elegant is worth it. some people derive pleasure from wearing nice clothes and make-up, I am not one of them and for me that would be too much of a sacrifice. I guess most people would hate to have my lifestyle: I basically do math all day. it is my decision to so, it's fun, and I hate it when someone assumes that it's bad just because they wouldn't enjoy it
hence I see this controversial list as goals of someone who genuinely wants to be perfect. and yeah I do think that most of those things are completely unnecessary, I don't consider this set of characteristics as a "high value person" but maybe some people do. a part of self-improvement for me was realizing that I don't care about most things and this post reminded me that there might exist people who care about everything. have they not yet realized that they actually don't care? idk, maybe they do care
but yeah if someone came to me and said that this list objectively defines a high value person then I would laugh lol I will respect everyone's values if they respect mine
lmao I just imagined a situation in which someone wrote me a message about math (is math a fandom?) and after realizing that I am an adult decided that talking to me about math is suddenly dangerous, kinda funny
on a serious note, I don't have anything to add, the responses above do a very good job at showing why this is an insane thing to expect from people
@ my fellow adults who use tumblr a lot:
can you PLEASE put your age in your about/sidebar and make sure it’s accessible on mobile. imo if you’re an adult esp 20+ it’s a little weird that you wouldn’t have your age readily available on your blog. if you’re reading this now and you don’t have your age listed, please rectify that. i feel like teenagers get lured into talking to adults in fandom/lgbt spaces that they may not have intentionally sought out because they think they’re talking to other teenagers, and this can lead to a lot of other – much more insidious –problems
gonna list my general goals, not necessarily what theorems i want to learn but rather some global "fix your life" things. gonna post about it every week to keep myself accountable
(1) wake up at 9 instead of 12. go to sleep at 1 instead of 4. if my current circadian rythm is here to stay, it's gonna be a fucking nightmare in november. first goal is to start going to sleep between 2 and 3
(2) concentrate on lectures. my focus is really bad when it comes to listening to someone. i have some interesting lectures downloaded and want to use them as training. first goal is to be able to actively listen to one for 30 minutes, then I can have a break for a zone-out
(3) get used to not checking my phone every damn 20 minutes. first goal is to have two 1-hour intervals daily of not checking it
probably will add some more soon
did that to me
We need books that affect us like a disaster, that grieve us deeply, like being banished into forests far from everyone. A book must be the axe for the frozen sea within us. That is my belief.
Franz Kafka
omg that sounds so cool
one of my friends found radiooooo which is a site that streams music from any country from any decade (well, most countries/decade combos work) and we’ve been digging going on a quest to find what is rad
so far the following is good
50s/60s/70s/80s russia
70s cambodia
20s japan
80s ethiopia
80s india
" 'They' isn't singular!" Oh yeah? Show me its multiplicative inverse matrix then.
don't forget about "you're gaslighting me" whenever you do something that they don't like. this is the slang word that I probably find the most annoying recently, I've never seen it used correctly. it's always the situation when someone does something under the influence of emotions and when confronted they say that it's gasligthing lmao shut up
brb gonna go on a spiral thinking abt this all weekend (bc i think its insanely true)
