It's not annoying, that's a fair question! I do plan to continue both of them, it's just a combination of things that have been stopping me :( A big reason I haven't been working on those is that I've been focused on my lils au with Enkay for Hermit a Day May, and we've been working on that for well over a month. The other thing is that I'm just generally struggling to find consistent motivation and time to actually work on it, but that doesn't mean I've abandoned the projects entirely!! I'm about halfway through the next chapter of TSotS, but it's slow going. Idk how long it'll take, just know I'm working on it :P

Chapter 12 of This Side of the Screen is finally here!! In which they go for a walk together :]

Gonna be honest, this has been one of my favorites to write thus far. they're so stupid <3 But that's all I'll say! no spoilers! Go read it if you want to know what happens (hint: it's much cuter than what the image suggests ;)

Just realized I didn't even touch on the fact that skizz ACTUALLY sent a picture of himself and that could kind of be a BIG THING. like, trying to keep this short and simple not only does impulse now have some physical descriptions to work with he may now also (if we're lucky and give him at least five chapters to sort himself out) decide (read: feel pressured by himself and himself only) to send a picture back. Which at that point I might just explode ngl

Okay WOO I'm back. Hasn't quite been 8 hours of sleep, but like, who cares about the specifics??

Okay first, I just want to say amazing chapter as always. First and foremost. It will never cease to amaze me how Impulse and Skizz are completely different characters. You do such a good job of creating individual voices for them, but yet in a way that doesn't feel like a dramatic change? I don't know if that really makes sense? Reading from each pov feels different, it feels like it's genuinely a different person we're viewing, but it also feels like they're one in the same. Like they're the same person in a different font, like they genuinely are made for each other. I'm getting way off track and over analyzing something as simple as an author writing multiple pov's. Okay then. Back on track. This chapter was a delight to read, and knowing most of it probably wasn't even planned and just. Spiraled into existence is very funny to me. Never been this excited to see Skizz's chapter because the things you have the potential to do. My god.

Okay now talking about the ACTUAL CHAPTER!! I'm assuming this takes place the same day as the apology pastries, but I could be wrong. Having Tango as the TA is genius and genuinely threw me for a loop because I forgot Impulse didn't personally know him at first. My first thoughts were something like "wow another blazeborn thats cool. To bad its not tango, or impulse would have thought about him directly by now". And then it. Was Tango. SHAKSJK. This could majority effect the plot or just be a silly thing to add onto the miscommunication pile and I love it. (Also impulse calling him Tongo?? Fucking amazing.) I don't really have much to say about Tango right now, but I'm very excited to hopefully see more of him in the future

Impulse physically counting down the minutes before he gets to leave class, and more importantly, look at the messages skizzley sent? He is incredibly real for that, but also, that man is down BAD. Impulse thinking about and then proceeding to RESEARCH angle culture. The WINGS. His CLAWS. I hate him. I hate him so much. An angles ability to sense others emotions? Walleye the things you've done and set up in a relatively short chapter. Insane.

Now the main thing i wanted to talk about. Certainly not last, and potentially the furthest thing from least, Impulse can see enchantments. First, that is SO insanely cool. Only certain species can see enchantments?? That's such a cool thing?? Not only as a plot device (i see what you're doing. I will be talking about it in a second.) But also just, a super cool thing? I know I'm repeating myself but, I love that?

I'm not really going to try and sort out my thoughts about how this will effect impulse as the classmate because I will be here for a while, and instead just focus on how GENIUS of a miscommunication plot point this is. The moment I read the line "this time noting the white feathers" I knew it was all over. Of course impulse would specifically say white feathers, he wouldn't be able to see enchantments through a picture. Of course he wouldn't have any reason to think Skizzley is an angle, much less his classmate (yes he does. He DOES. he has EVERY REASON TO THINK THAT-) and this is just touching the surface of everything you've set up within this single conversation.

Impulse is now way more attracted to his online friend, he knows he has wings, he doesn't, even for a SECOND, consider the possibility of skizz being skizz, and on top of that. You made Impulse indirectly insult Skizz's wings.

Now, this might not be important, it might not effect anything, I might be reading too far into it. But from skizz's perspective? He shares a personal picture for the first time, it includes a snippet of his wings, and his online friend whom he's grown so very attached to, says some other guy, who ALSO has the name skizz, has prettier wings? Keeping in mind skizz can't sense or feel any emotions online, he has no way of knowing Impulses true intentions. He has no real way to tell if impulse is playing it up for the bit, or if he genuinely thinks this other guy, in every sense of the word, is more attractive. Again could mean nothing.

While I'm here I might as well scream about the emotion thing a bit more. Stepping away from the chapter and plot points, not being able to tell what Dipple Dop is feeling must be so refreshing and so fucking terrifying at the same time. Anyway, back to the story. We know skizz doesn't know what exactly impulse his classmate is feeling towards him. (Something something everybody loves skizz and skizz loves everybody, he doesn't know the different between platonic love and romantic love because nobody has ever cared about him as a person that much vs a really good friend etc etc) he can't know what dipple dop is feeling. For the first time in probably a long time he is almost completely in the dark. We're assuming skizz hasn't put the pieces together what so ever about another skizz with wings, hey! I'm a skizz! I have wings! Because, well there probably wouldn't be over 20 more chapters if he did SKSKAJ

Also SCREAMING AT YOU. SCREAMING AT YOU SO HARD BECAUSE RAAHAHHAHJ if the knowledge that angels can sense emotions gets to impulses head, there is a very high likelihood he will start to avoid his classmate, also maybe gaslight himself into trying to feel anything other than attraction to this man, which would make skizz think he did something wrong, etc etc. Impulse now firmly believes skizzley is somebody else and it's just an insane coincidence. Skizz is one devious author away from spiraling into a mess. There are so many other directions this could go I just DONT KNOW HOW TO PUT THEM INTO WORDSS. There are so many other THOUGHTS that i dont know how to explain. There are so many different paths i can see this taking. you make me so mad. In a good way. I'm angry that you're writing a story that is basically specifically tailored to drive me insane/pos. There are so many more things i could probably talk about from this chapter alone but ive forgotten them because the only clear thing right now is just "they should kiss. For fun. As a reward. Let them kiss".

At this point I've been here over an hour trying to make sure this is somewhat readable because to be honest I haven't fully woken up and it's way to early for me to try and use my brain for sophisticated thoughts! but! We persist! Because you have completely taken over every thought of mine with half baked concepts and ideas on how insanely stupid these idiots are. And if I don't get them out I won't be able to do anything today. I hope you're happy, I hope you're proud of what you've made me (don't stop. I'll gladly embrace insanity if skizzpulse miscommunication college au is the result/silly)

That said, you need to SLEEP. It is critical for your mental and physical health, and you need to be in peak physical condition to handle what the next chapter holds ;)

That last chapter did happen on the same day as the pastries, you're correct (though, I'm not gonna lie, I haven't payed attention to the timeline at ALL until recently, things just kinda vaguely happen at some point in the week. That said, I did make schedules for each of them that I might release soon). Also YES ta Tango is one of my favorite things, because Impulse needs more friends 👍 (ngl Gem and Pearl were added in the spur of the moment for the same reason because I decided he was going to be in a group project now lmao. That had NOT been the intent when I started the chapter, I can tell you that much). Impulse calling him Tongo made me laugh so much tho, it's just so stupid and I giggled every single time I read it xD

He is down bad, and it's far too late for him to recover >:) I just thought, "what would a stupid idiot do if he had a massive crush on someone?" and the answer was, of course, do extensive research on every aspect about the man that he can think of. Totally normal and not at all obsessive behavior, not at all.

Hehehehehe I love adding little things like demons being able to see enchantments (they can see something else, too, but you'll find out what that is soon enough...). I love adding niche worldbuilding things just because I can :D And demons being able to see enchantments just so happens to be majorly relevant to the plot >:)

honestly, I wasn't expecting everyone to get it immediately, but ig my readers aren't as dumb as Impulse is (/lh). I also love how angry everyone is over this little thing, because he has absolutely no reason to be comparing the two in his mind, now that he has what he believes is solid evidence that they're not the same person--not that he would have ever thought that in the first place. It's simply a coincidence that they have the same name :)

(also, side note for this lil moment: it was directly inspired by the post that started this whole thing from Chipper, which said that Impulse knew they both had wings, but thought that online Skizz was a dove hybrid or something)

I've been thinking about TSotS a lot lately, and I can't stop thinking about how I didn't realize BOTH of them didn't know eachothers hybrid status.

I've already talked a bit about how this effects Skizz and his perception of what's going on, but I've been thinking about Impulse a lot more.

At first, in one of the first chapters, 3, I think, when we first see impulses not-a-crush-crush on his angel classmate, and I thought it was fueled by his.. let's say growing fondness of his angel bestfriend (id specify "online" but... he doesnt seem like a very social creature)

But now that I know he doesn't know Skizz is an angel (which tbf i probably should have picked up on lol, i feel like if he knew it would have been a much more major plot point by now) it makes his crush feel a lot more real and present and important. Because at the end of the day, it is. His crush wasn't influenced by Skizz, making it (unknowingly) more important to him because this is his first crush, ever. He truly did just become enamored with an angel for seemingly no reason. And it's scary.

This makes for a couple interesting directions this story can take when he does eventually learn skizz is an angel (assuming that happens before he meets Skizz in person and they live happily ever after with no problems at all. Definitely.).

A) he becomes even more enamored with his classmate

B) full on falls head over heels for skizz

C) unintentionally ghosts Skizz (and avoids his classmate at all costs) because he's having multiple gay panic attacks ("skizz is an angel? Like that guy in my class? Are his wings as pretty? Is the guy just as nice as skizz?")

D) begins to put the dots together and starts to freak out... or alternatively does the opposite and sees no connection what so ever. Silly guy.

Or E) some secret 5th thing that only an author could come up with because being a writer is actually just playing 3D chess with the characters (and readers)

Also I'm so. So. normal about the apology pastries. I will not survive that interaction. (And for the sake of this ramble, we're not thinking about the outcome possibilities. Because i will be here for hours if i so much as think about how that will go down + the aftermath)

I don't think it's been mentioned explicitly, mainly because I don't like to do straight exposition and prefer to work information into the plot naturally, but they know next to nothing about one another's personal information. They've both been very strict about protecting their privacy for a variety of reasons, so yeah. Skizz didn't know Impulse was a demon, and while Skizz has certainly hinted that he's an angel, he hasn't explicitly told Impulse.

And that's one thing I really like about how their relationship is going to develop; it said in the tags, but it's simultaneously friends to lovers and strangers to lovers, because at least at the beginning, the online and in-person personalities have no direct association with one another. So yeah, Impulse just likes this random angel for no reason other than SMOKING HOT, and it has nothing to do with Skizz (yet ;))

ughh I love all your theories, there are SO many things that could happen from here. And of course, nothing is going to be directly confirmed or denied, but I will say at least part of several of your theories are going to happen >:)) With angst, naturally. ughhh you don't even KNOW. lots of 3D chess with multiverse time travel going on.

Just got the chance to finish chapter 9 and i will cryyyyyy. Impulse :( Skizz caring about Impulse :( they're all so stupid :( I can't wait till I have time to draw RAHHH

I have a feeling this is going to be one of the chapters that really stick with me. Aside from the WONDERFUL writing, and the AMAZING portrayal of emotions, I can, unfortunately, really connect and sympathize with Impulse this chapter lol

Obviously not to go too into detail or start venting or anything, today has been A LOT. had to get up earlier than i can properly function, go to physical therapy, just got back from a saline infusion,

(Trigger warning: needles, and slight medical errors. feel free to skip lol Tylically the place i go to for infusions are quick and easy, but today they didnt fail once, but TWICE. blew two veins, and when they finally got everything said and done, the needle hurt like HELL going in, when usually i can't feel it)

and I STILL have another appointment I need to go to later today. On top of all that I also have to fit in schoolwork. Definitely feels like stuff that doesn't normally bother me is building up, and FAST, I can only imagine what Impulse is feeling. Actually, not true, I can READ it lol. (And it will never fail to make me Feel™ what they are Feeling™)

Once again, everything is so very wonderfully written it's insane. Despite being similar to what I'm currently feeling, it still felt like an escape rather than adding to the stress, yknow? Which, personally, as someone who struggles with writing in general. Is just plain insane to me.

Also the shower scene. Beautifully written. You can practically feel the tension melting off of Impulse before his thoughts start getting a bit too much. Very relatable. Very cozy with the perfect amount of oomph. I want Skizz to hug him and tell him it's going to be okay so bad I could rival the sun in intensity. Like. Cannibal. Cannibal please. Let them be happy. (Make it last. I want to see them suffer.) I want to draw them being happy together (i want to draw them being sad together. They should be miserable a bit longer. As a treat.)

Don't want this to go on for too long, because I feel like it's already longer than it probably should be, even if I could ramble for hours. But I just wanted to say that this chapter made me especially happy :] (also im surprised Skizz didn't know he was a demon. Hmm. The thoughts are brewing lol.)

Last but not least, do you mind being called just "cannibal?" Because personally, I find it very silly, but if it bothers you at all I can just. Not, lol. <3 (Also feel free not to answer this if its too long or makes you uncomfortable in any way, I definitely rambled about my day way more than I intended. Whoops.)

I'm so sorry to hear that D: I hope you're all recovered by the time I answer this <3 I had a similar thing years ago, where I injured myself and they had to draw blood and just couldn't get the needle right. I think they tried 5 times on both arms. Somehow, I'm not afraid of needles after that, but I totally get what you're experiencing and wish you all the best *throws infinite hearts at you*

Yeah the shower scene :))) Fun fact: I came up with the idea while in the shower. It's so distracting at first when there's something to do, what with washing up n such. And then, there's that period where it's so comfortable, but purposeless, and that's where the thoughts get you. At least for me, and thus Impulse. But mostly, a very very safe space where things don't feel quite so oppressive. And the Skizz hugs, I'm sure they're coming one day ;) ((also the "I want to see them suffer" is far too true for me lmao. make it ANGSTY)) Again, if you draw, I will give u a real life kiss and make you a cinnamon roll. SKIZZ DIDNT KNOW IMPULSE WAS A DEMON YET??? I knew be didn't know his name (at leaset. Im like 99% sure he doesnt lol.), but I guess I assumed he knew he was a demon... that actually DRASTICALLY changes things.

Well, obviously he knows now, and.. in actuality it doesn't change too much.. but something tells me skizz would have been fussing over the wellbeing of a certain demon way more if he knew his best friend was one, lol.

Also? Also. I will CRY. do you WANT me to CRY? Impulse is soooo pathetic/aff this chapter. He's such a little guy about one more incident from breaking down and we love him for that. He is the embodiment of every college student ever. Dude just wants a break. (And he should have one. With skizz. Together. Next chapter-)

nope, he didn't know! Impulse has been INCREDIBLY secretive about his personal life up until now, giving literally nothing away about himself online. And, btw, Skizz has been similar, both for his own boundaries and to respect Impulse's. ((btw, Impulse also doesn't know that Skizz is an angel))

Also yes, Skizz is empathetic in general, but he definitely would've been even more concerned if he knew Dop was a demon, too. I wonder if that'll come up in any way...

Uhmm, yes. I want you to cry. That is, in fact, my main goal here. I feed off of the tears of orphaned children, I eat suffering for breakfast. Impulse really is super sad tho :( It's only slightly concerning just how much people say they relate to him this chapter rip. We're all fineeee, right guys? As for whether he gets a break next time, do you think him talking to the hot stranger that he made a fool of himself in front of would be very relaxing? I guess you'll have to wait and see (laughs evilly as people continue to cry and cities burn in the background)

The aftermath of the coffee incident... ((rambling below))

I have a few things to say about this!

First, sorry it took so much longer to get this out than previous chapters D: I kinda hit a wall with inspiration because I kept getting sucked into other fics (coming soon to a walleye near you ;) ) and then spent a month drawing some stupid squishy lil guys that I love with all my heart but you can't see because it's TOP SECRET. SECRET, I say!! I don't even have permission to tell you about their EXISTENCE so nobody say anything to anyone! Anyways, I aim to do a chapter a week from now on, we'll have to see if that happens :]

Second, I am obsessed with art. Like, I've had my drawing tablet for years, but haven't ever seriously used it until recently and guys. it is the best thing ever. Anyways, I think this is my favorite drawing for the series yet, for both the lineart and the colors. I used a fancy color palette picker thingamajiger and it's beautiful and I'm in love. Skizz's wings look so much better cream than they did that weird purple-blue that I couldn't let go of. The colors make me so happy, and then the LINE ART. Probably one of the cleanest line arts I've ever done (I especially love Skizz's shirt). I couldn't not share because I'm so pleased with my progress; this feels a hundred times better than my stuff just two months ago, so I hope you like it, too! Not to mention the coffee drips looking more realistic, and the poses and AUGH.

Such an underrated detail I just noticed in your chapter 7 art is Skizz has halo highlights in his eyes. No matter how many times I look at your art I always find something new and I love it all so much. The way you shade is IMMACULATE. And I would DIE for the ability to do that lol. Makes everything much more saturated and refined and realistic and and and-. Mwah. chefs kiss. (Jokes aside, I love your style, both in art and writing <3)

regarding the calc problem at the beginning of ch6 (which was so well written! i loved the way skizz struggles to differentiate others' emotions from his own! but i digress) my integral skills are rusty but i loved calc in high school so i've given it a shot that may or may not be correct. and if im wrong, well, that's embarassing ig but also this is mcytblr. nobody comes here for the math lol

for part a, the general solution giving the particle's location is r(t) = <e^(t-2) + c, 12sin(π/4 t) + c, 1/3 t^3 + c> (hopefully ive typed that in a way that makes sense, im on mobile lol)

that means for part b, the specific equation for t = 2 would be r(2) = <e^(t-2) + 3, 12sin(π/4 t) - 2, 1/3 t^3 + 1/3>

anyways this has been poorly checked math at 3am, i hope i didnt mess it up but thanks for the enrichment in my enclosure either way!!
