Sherlock - Blog Posts

More pretty multifandom Christmas art :)

Ooh, and 42 easter eggs? Challenge accepted.

Okay so I don’t know all of these fandoms but I’m just going to go through the ornaments, top to bottom, left to right, and make my best guesses. I should put it below one of those cut thingies in case anyone else wants to play.

1. Illuminati pyramid with a top hat.

2. The One Ring

3. A tribble, perhaps? Or it could be wookie fur. Nah, I’m going with tribble.

4. Jack Skellington

5. The Death Star

6. I believe its name is Totoro?

7. Star Trek logo/badge

8. It’s not the right shape to be the Iron Man thing... Is this that from that Detroit Become Human thing people have been posting about? No, those robots have circles on their temples. Gah, it looks familiar and I’m probably going to be kicking myself later, but I’m not getting it.

9. Deadpool

10. Sherlock--Moriarty’s apple

11. EXTERMINATE! DECORATE! WAIT! It’s a Dalek :)

12. The Starship Enterprise

13. The Golden Snitch :)   (Is that capitalized? It might not be capitalized.)

14. The Cheshire Cat

15. Na na na na na na na na Batman!

16. Anything hiding in Scooby Doo, aka the classic eyes in the bushes?

17. Okay so this is the hippo/horse thing that I didn’t know what it was last time I reblogged something from this blog, but upon scrolling further through this blog I learned it is neither hippo nor horse but is rather a “moomin”.

18. In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit... Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, but a hobbit hole, and a hobbit hole meant comfort.

19. Iron Man (is it two words or one, like Superman? Ironman?)

20. Hmm.... clearly a spaceship but I’m not sure which one. I’m thinking Star Wars.

21. The “N” seems to go with the “R” and the “U” below it, spelling “RUN”... Oooooh it’s Stranger Things, I get it. My first thought was still “Run, you clever boy, and remember”.

22. The Deathly Hallows

23. The Avengers’ logo.

24. BB-8

25. Sherlock’s home address

26. Waffles, to go with Stranger Things in #21

27. I think that’s one of the Game of Thrones house logos--the “winter is coming” one? Are they the ones with the giant wolves?

28. No-Face, which admittedly I mostly remember from Adam Savage’s cosplay.

29. Hmm... um... The pufferfish from Finding Nemo?

30. Platform 9 3/4, of course. Train leaves at 11 o’clock sharp, no time for dilly-dallying.

31. R2-D2

32. The Elf on the Shelf? No, this one is less creepy. Is it the one from the Rudolph movie?

33. Definitely Star Wars. Is that Han Solo’s one, the Millenium Falcon? I think so.

34. I am (baby) Groot.

35. Mjolnir

36. The Tardis!

37. Continuing the Studio Ghibli theme, is that the Kiki’s Flying Delivery Service kitty?

38. The Polar Express lantern?

39. The Infinity Gauntlet

40. Captain America’s shield

41. A book on palm reading?

Oh dangit I’m one short. Did I miss one? How did I miss one? I’m still not seeing it--oooh wait, is it just the fact that there were 42 things, and 42 is the meaning of life, the universe, and everything? Okay that’s what I’m going with since I really don’t see anything I’ve missed. 42, the number of items itself is the reference, final answer.

Well that was a fun multifandom quiz! I hope other people do it, too. I want to compare results.

I Wish You A Very Fandom Christmas! *_____* (It’s May Be A Little Bit Late, But Anyway!) P.S. Can You

I wish you a very fandom Christmas! *_____* (It’s may be a little bit late, but anyway!) P.S. Can you find all 42 “easter eggs” on this Christmas tree?

One of the things I love about having a tumblr now is tracking down all the great fanart I’ve appreciated for so long and getting to share it and sing its praises properly :) The lovely Christmas Tardis picture in this set was my first phone screensaver when I started using my first smartphone last Christmas. (Yes, I’m very behind on technology for a millenial.) I love all of these so much, though. The style feels like proper, old-fashioned book illustrations, gentle and fantastical and nostalgic--and, of course, Christmassy :)

In response to the “which door” question--well, the cheating answer is the Tardis so that you could visit all of the other worlds with it ;) Honestly, though, I would choose the Tardis first for the sake of variety--I mean, how could you turn down the whole universe, past, present, and future? Second place is harder to pick, though. Probably Hogwarts, followed by Middle Earth and/or Narnia--I think those two tie for a close third. Each promises similar fantastical adventures. Wonderland and 221B would be neat, too, but they’re lower priority. I don’t actually recognize the door below the Tardis with the hippos (or horses?) and the lighthouse. Whatever fandom that is is probably laughing at me now. In any case, I love how each door leads to adventures :)

So if some bizarre Christmas miracle was about to happen with you and all of those fantastic worlds become actually properly real - what door would you choose? ~_^

Also, I have temporary added all of this illustrations to my Redbubble shop, so if you want some of those Christmas cards - it’s better to hurry because they may  disappear from there any second now ^^’

Thank you, @greenfinchwriter , for tagging me in this tag game! I know we're supposed to reblog, but I can't hide long posts when they're shown on the "my posts" tab and that sometimes gets my goat, so I hope it's all right if I make a separate post!

Last TV show: Arcane

Last movie: Hammer's Dracula... I think? I've completely lost all sense of time.

Last book: A vampire romance in which the vampire, I kid you not, conjures cheesecakes.

Last thing I searched: Just checked. It's "bub meaning." I wish I could say it's "Sherlock Harpoon," but that was this morning.

Sweet/savoury/spicy: You are asking the gremlin who puts sugar in soup. Sweet.

Relationship status: extremely occupied with matchmaking my original characters.

Favourite drink: Cocoa, tea, soup, blood

Songs playing 24/7: "Judas" by Lady Gaga, "Love me normally" by Will Wood

Current favourite character: Van Helsing and Mina Harker (specifically from the Dracula book)

Fun activities I wish to get into: I want to try animating softwares, but it'll have to wait until I have a computer again. My antique PC is sadly ignoring me.

Last video game: Good grief, this ancient Undead hasn't played one in ages. Probably the Halloween game on Google Doodles?

Anyway, I drew Sherlock with a harpoon ages ago.

Oh, yes, I forgot to tag! @frommarshtheycome @windforkthewriter @t4z-0n-p4wz @whyisthereacentaur

At first I was like “If he deduced you were trans, wouldn’t he deduce you hadn’t figured it out yourself as well” but… he probably wouldn’t have. that thought didn’t pass through his brain at all.

Whether someone is trans or not is not something the average person can decipher, although someone observant can certainly infer if someone is on the closet because of context clues, how they behave around different people and certain topics they might “close off” around. I can’t really tell if someone is a closeted gay, aromantic, asexual or trans, but my gaydar tells me that person is queer. However, Sherlock Holmes would probably never question it, for how could someone not deduce such a basic fact about their own identity by themselves, and would leave you in a gender crisis. That’s why he needs Watson, who would be very carefully listening to the exchange and would probably have a bit of a more empathetic approach.

sherlock holmes deduces you are trans before you've figured it out yourself and refers to you with those pronouns and then when you look confused is like "ah...had you not arrived at that conclusion yet?" and wafts away in his dressing gown to smoke seventeen pipes, leaving you in a gender crisis

Fractured Gravestones

The best stories are made of shattered glass.

They’re beautiful, they’re tragic, they’re sad, they’re hopeful, they’re so very bittersweet.

Whenever I experience a new story I always focus on the tragic side of it. Not because I like the despair, though that does play some distant and twisted role, it’s because of what the tragedy brings out in the characters. I love following their path, how they start as innocent children and slowly come to the horrific realization of what sentient beings can do. How even with the darkness they still fight, they still love, they still bleed...all for what they believe in, because they won’t just give up.

No.

They fight for life and freedom because it is right, and because no one else will.

Maybe that's why my favorite stories are so sad sometimes.

An alien who travels across time, galaxies, universes and multiverses. Who has loved and lost more than anyone should. Who cannot be alone because he might become exactly what he fights. Who fell in love with a woman who became trapped and married a woman he met completely out of order and died upon their meeting. A man who saves and sacrifices and hurts and bleeds and asks for nothing in return. When will his time run out? When will it stop being ‘one last miracle’?

An Ice cold detective and his doctor, who run around solving crimes that no one else can. A genius who feels so fiercely that he shuts off all emotion to avoid getting hurt - again. A soldier who came home empty and is horrified to find that he misses the war. He faked his death once, who says it won't be real next time?

Two brothers and their angel who travel across the country in an old impala, fighting things of nightmares that most believe to be myth and legend. Going against all odds, against their own people, for what they believe is right. An angel always willing to bleed for them, family that would end the world for each other. They’ve died many times. when will it be permanent?

A boy drafted into a war before he was even born, who had a lightning bolt scar and a destiny he couldn't fight, and blood on his hands before he was twelve. One who grew up too fast and learned too quickly that magic wasn't always the stuff of childish dreams. His best friend who thinks he's not enough, youngest of 6 brothers who feels like his achievements don't matter. And the Brightest witch of her age, quick as a whip who saved her boys again and again. They are all drowning in blood before they are legally adults, red-stained hands leaving sticky smears in their wake, staining everything they touch. They were child soldiers, willing or not. When will the nightmares stop?

A hero of godly parentage who went to war at 16 and then was put through another before he became an adult. A boy with a loving mother who never gave up on him, an amazing half-goat best friend who would face the worst of his fears to save his life, and a girlfriend who he would bend heaven and earth for. He’s faced gods and monsters that grown men would fear, killed things that have devoured men thrice his age, bested those terrifying things repeatedly. When will the Gods leave him alone?

A group from the FBI who have been shot at, cut, imprisoned, isolated, blown up, and tortured. A genius who became addicted, a media liaison who lost a child, an ex-lawyer who lost a wife, an author dragged from retirement, a man forced to confront his traumatic past, an interpol agent made to fake her death, a bright and happy technical analyst made to see horrors before her screens every day. They are beaten, bruised and broken. How many horrific ways can someone think of killing. Why must their lives be paved with the bodies of victims never saved?

The MCRT from NCIS who have been betrayed, manipulated and hurt. Who have seen teammates die and families burn. A marine whose wife and child were murdered, an agent with a frat boy mask who almost died from the plague, an ex-mossad agent of a cracked family, an MIT graduate who was woken to real life too soon, a peppy forensic scientist whose optimism became dull, a medical examiner with a sick mother and his insecure assistant. How will they move on if everything they love keeps withering away?

A team of enhanced human beings; some with magic, some with power, some with pure skill; who help people. The universe was full of aliens and monsters and horrors untold. They kill them and incarcerate them and save the earth again and again and again from people much smarter, stronger and way more powerful than themselves. How much luck do they have? When will they go on a mission and not come back?

A Demon and an Angel in a bookshop in Soho who prevented the apocalypse. A Demon who loves plants and stares at galaxies that he helped create, never able to visit again. An angel with a love of books and food who must ‘always obey’ ‘never fail’. Two celestial beings who gave up everything for humanity and each other, and would do so again in a heartbeat. When will that not be enough? When must they let go?

There are many more stories; some popular, some obscure; but it always comes down to loving something or someone so much that you would sacrifice anything, even your own life, for it.

And I love that.

Sure it’s sad, Kids killed. Dreams squandered. Hearts shattered. Souls bruised. Hope broken… But it has a sort of beauty, the fact that they keep fighting and loving and dreaming and helping despite that, because of that.

Because no one deserves to go through the same pain they did.

I feel like a lot of people miss the point of Sherlock's charging-port-deduction when they poke fun at it.

Now, I'm not saying he's right or some genius (or that you shouldn't poke fun at the deduction), I'm just saying that the point of this specific observation was misunderstood.

Because yes, we all try to plug our phones in in the dark or without looking and miss the port a few times. But not hard enough to leave scratches in the metal. When I look at my charging port, there are no scratches there, because I use the appropriate amount of force when plugging in my phone, and I think most of you do, too.

However, when you're completely drunk, there isn't really an 'appropriate amount of force.' You will jam your charger into the metal around your phone port hard enough to leave visible scratches.

It wasn't that the phone's user missed the port; it was that they missed the port with enough excessive force to scratch the phone.

(Which, of course, doesn't even necessarily mean 'alcoholic'; it could just be someone with difficulty with fine motor skills, or who misjudges how much force they need for things, or wasn't wearing their glasses and got very frustrated trying to plug in their phone, or any variety of other scenarios)

Hi Steph! I love your blog and your fic recs! I was wondering if you could please help me find a fic I read a while ago but lost. It's post-Reichenbach, where I remember it takes ~42 days for "the fog to lift from John's mind" and he realises what Sherlock meant by his 'note', and John works on clearing Sherlock's name, then moves to a lil house by the sea, and patiently waits for Sherlock, who shows up after a year and a half, I think? Please, it's driving me crazy aha!

Hey Nonny!

Ooof, I have no idea which fic this is, but it sounds vaguely familiar... anyone able to help me out with this one??

Throwback Thursday -

Throwback Thursday -

TBT to that one time that Benedict Cumberbatch wore a SHERLOCK HEMLOCK T-SHIRT somewhere in public. Sometimes I worry when we idolize certain celebrities that they take themselves so seriously they don't have any sense of humor about it. This picture is empirical proof that this is not the case with Bramblewood Crumplepants. What a good old sport.

Henley Monday -

Coming at you hot and fresh at the 11th hour CT we've got your weekly dose of henley hunk. If it's possible for there to be a henley I didn't like, this one would be in contention: short sleeve - good, extra long placard - good, white - great, but the ribbing? BAD. Ribbing is very very bad and yet somehow I still love old Bumbleding Candlehat in it. Same goes for the goatee.

Here lies our empirical evidence that Benedict Cumberbatch can do no wrong.

Henley Monday -

Hi everyone! I hope you're pulling through as best you can today. I'll keep it short and get straight to the henley point: How adorable is Martin Freeman here? Can you even handle it? I barely can.

He is every bit a classic, charming off-beat and insanely talented Brit who brings great joy to me in all his roles. He brings great joy to me here as well in such soothing blue tones with a cheeky little grin. Thanks for the pick-me-up Martin!

Bridging the Gap - On Filling the Pop Culture Lull

Bridging The Gap - On Filling The Pop Culture Lull

The gap between summer and fall, from about mid-August to late-September, is big old lull, pop-culturally speaking. All the summer programming is over, but the news shows haven’t started and the old shows haven’t picked back up. All the summer blockbusters have long since been released, and the critically acclaimed films gearing up towards awards-season are sitting in the pot.

So what’s a bear to do? Hibernate? I think not. Here are my recommendations of how to efficiently fill your time in the Pop-Culture Lull.

1) Books - There are no fewer than five books on my nightstand right now that I am either half-way through or am borrowing from a friend who insisted I read them (four months ago). But summer caught up with me and the books got put aside for the beach and festivals and concerts and movies. So use this time to finally finish Game of Thrones, book 2, “A Clash of Kings”, or read “The Fault in Our Stars” so you can finally give it back to your friend who just wants to talk about Hazel and August Waters with you!

Bridging The Gap - On Filling The Pop Culture Lull

                            2) Podcasts - In the past, I’ve only listened to podcasts while on my commutes, but in the past month, I’ve discovered several new, great podcasts that help pass the time cooking, cleaning, or just sitting around. They can be purely entertaining (try Pop My Culture Podcast, or Pop Culture Happy Hour), they can be enlightening (try This American Life, or The Moth), they can be in-depth portraits of actors, writers, or musicians (try WTF? with Marc Maron, or Doug Loves Movies), or they can be any number of other things. The best part is that the vast majority of podcasts are 100% free, so open up the podcast tab in iTunes and subscribe to a few that most peak your specific interests.

                        3) Classic Films – My regular readers know how derelict I am in my knowledge of the top classic films. But this isn’t just me; most of us have a pop-culture blind-spot. A classic thing that it seems EVERYONE ELSE LIVING has seen, but we haven’t. Netflix has all of the modern classics readily available, but they also have every film on the AFI Top 100 Movies of All Time (click through here for the full list). This is a great time to finally watch Citizen Kane, Vertigo, Gone with the Wind, and clear up that blind-spot.

Bridging The Gap - On Filling The Pop Culture Lull

                      4) Start a new TV show on Netflix – While you wait for your old favorite shows to start up once again, pick up something new that everyone has been imploring you to watch for months, or possibly years. If I had a nickel for every time someone has literally yelled at me to watch “Breaking Bad”, I would be a rich lady indeed. You can check out that show, "Sherlock", "Louie", and tons more current, popular show on Netflix instant. Or go the classic route like with your movies. All eleven seasons of “Frasier” are also on instant, which is a beautifully crafted comedy that I bet you’ve overlooked with prejudgments. “Firefly” likewise is a great, short-lived TV show from the brilliant brain of Joss Whedon, who, you know, recently earned all the money for a little film called “the Avengers” so…credentials…

Bridging The Gap - On Filling The Pop Culture Lull

     5) Revisit Old Favorites – Do you have all the seasons of the Simpsons on DVD? What about the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy with extended editions and commentary? How about the Colin Firth, BBC mini-series of “Pride and Prejudice”? Get down with your old favorites that you haven’t devoted time to in a while! You miss them and you don’t even know. You want to cry over the perfection of Mr. Darcy and you really want to spend almost a full day in the world of Middle Earth.

Bridging The Gap - On Filling The Pop Culture Lull

If you can’t successfully utilize any of these to help pass the time from limbo to full-blown media overload, I don’t know what to do with you. Take a walk? Maybe? Who knows? But, hopefully any/all of these things will fill that void and successfully carry you through, and who knows, maybe open up a new pop-culture addiction. Which you can never have too many of, honestly.
