Okay but actually? Chase and Wilson definitely bop to early 2000s music. And I mean “girly” pop 2000s music, like Britney, Katy, Rihanna. They are very passionate about it too. Wilson has a signed Britney poster that he treasures, House makes fun of him about it anytime he can. Wilson and Chase have gone to multiple concerts focusing on these singers. They are dedicated fans. Wilson feels very strongly about the struggles female artists go through in the industry and frequently rants about it to House. House could not care less but listens and rags on him about it. He teases Wilson and Chase relentlessly over their shared obsession but secretly he enjoys the music too. Wilson and Chase love NSYNC and House listens to Wilson’s CD’s of NSYNC in his office when Wilson is out.

so many messy thoughts about this argh.
firstly, there's so much repression in that statement. the way it's stated so factually, no feelings. he's completely dissociated himself from the trauma of it; he is aware that it happened, but it happened to a child who's no longer him.
medicine to fill the hole of family dysfunction -> using work as a fucked-up found family. the visual of bookshelves of medicine cradling him softly to sleep rather than his own mother (thoughts on wire vs cloth mother, and nature vs nurture).
chase going into the study of healing to distract himself from the pain of neglect, and because he never knew how to heal himself.
spending his formative years in a prison of books, of knowledge and facts. until one day he decided to make a home in it.
living in the permanent reminder that his father is never home, as he's locked in his father's cold and empty study. a permanent reminder of his neglect, that he is always alone.
"[life] is a series of rooms, and who we get stuck with in those rooms with adds up to what are lives are" (s3e12 one day, one room).... chase spent his childhood in that study, alone. in adulthood he's always ended up alone - abandoned by his parents, house, cameron - with his work the one constant.
it's like he's still trapped in his father's study to that day. it's like he never got over it.

Robert Chase and Tall Poppy Syndrome I find the take in the fandom that "Chase doesn’t care" or is just "House’s lapdog" super interesting. As an Australian, I think Chase's reluctance to challenge House and the rest of the team - or make any attempt to 'stand out' is reflective of Tall Poppy Syndrome.
Tall poppy syndrome refers to how socially within Australia, individuals who are perceived to be too ambitious, successful or self-congratulatory are criticised, or 'cut down' by their peers. In many circles throughout Australia, being a tall poppy much isn’t just discouraged, it can make you a target.
This puts Chase in direct contrast with the other fellows, particularly Foreman (my favourite frenemies, haha), who is openly ambitious and determined to prove himself. Chase, on the other hand, actively avoids drawing attention to himself. Even before working for House, he literally chose seminary school - about as far from a high-powered medical career as you can get. And then there’s his dad. Having a famous father that the show goes out of it's way to imply pulled strings to get him into House’s fellowship would only make Chase even more inclined to lay low. When you already have a leg up, the last thing you want is to give people more reason to question if you deserve it. Don't even get me started on how Australia’s work culture (Heavy, heavy, heavy emphasis on work-life balance) would influence his character. TLDR: It’s not that Chase doesn’t care. It’s that he knows exactly how dangerous it can be to stand too tall.
Since a lot of really good shows are having a Renaissance, can we find out if the House MD fandom actually exists? Because the shows fuckin fire and yall are sleeping on it

ok but this is so true. I always thought this scene was weird, gross, and he looked uncomfortable. yet idk I thought it was just me because everyone else is like omggg so hot.
this was not a #girlboss moment for cameron btw. she's literally sexually harassing chase even after he told her to stop. the whole time she's describing sex to him he's obviously extremely uncomfortable, scared, and confused. the "chase starts to look for an escape route" isn't some funny thing it's him trying to get away from the person who is sexually harassing him.
i need to make a post about how sa-survivor-coded chase is and how the majority of the fandom completely glosses over that and just jokes about how much of a slut he is or even worse, acts like he's a sexual predator. like jesus christ i have so many thoughts and opinions on this but none of them are coherent
i know it’s really easy for us to look at chase and dibala and be like ‘killing dibala was an objective moral good!’ but i wish more people would recognise that for cameron (and foreman) it is actually incredibly difficult if not impossible to look at it objectively. it wasn’t ‘just’ a murder; it was one that took place in direct violation of a hippocratic oath they all swore. it’s one that happened in their workplace, on a patient they were all treating. it wasn’t just a stranger killing another stranger, it was cameron’s husband. foreman’s colleague. surely the trolley problem becomes infinitely harder when the people on the tracks are your friends. surely it becomes infinitely harder when it’s someone you love pulling the lever. how do you begin to disentangle that. the dibala arc was never actually about killing dibala. you know that, right?
