“Who would want that?” Scorpius commented, laughing once more. He wasn’t sure who the person in front of him was, but he was thankful for them. Even in the short conversation they had so far, it was starting to make him feel better about the day. Listening to them, the young wizard couldn’t help but tilt his head in thought before speaking. “Are you just some mysterious person who walks around town granting everyone with some grand wisdom?” He asked, letting out a smaller laugh this time. “But you’re right. Going around and learning more about the town might actually help me out.”

luna’s genuine grin only widened all the more, a meek shake of her head. “i wish i was that cool. && had all the knowledge of the world at my disposal.” if they did, they certainly would then understand the mysteries of this place, be reunited with their father && chosen family once again. “but i probably just people watch more than most. && i like to read. books have a lot of wisdom. even books of fiction can have valuable lessons in them.” expression turned sincere, “i hope you do find whatever it is you’re looking for. or it finds you, life tends to work out that way too. don’t worry, that’s the last bit of wisdom i have left.” luna jested with a slight, warm chuckle. “i’m luna lovegood. thanks you know, for talking with me.”

Scorpius nodded his head, agreeing with what the other was saying. “Wouldn’t that make life easier?” He joked, letting out a laugh. Honestly, Scorpius was tired of thinking. Tired of trying to figure out what was going on because he felt like he was the only one searching. Listening to their suggestions, Scorpius let his head just kind of nod before he responded. “I think it’s all just a bit overwhelming. Being in this random town, and being stuck in it. Not knowing anything about it, I mean, it’s so odd…”

luna’s own laughter easily followed, nodding in agreement. “yeah, that’d probably make life too easy.” despite how they still did wish for such a thing, there was something about figuring life out — a big puzzle that one never had all the pieces to, never would either until the very end. a small, what they hoped to be comforting, grin etched along their lips. “it won’t answer everything, but maybe check out the tours of the town. every place, every person, is ODD until you get to know them. though yes this place is stranger than most. but one thing i’m sure of even though i don’t know all you’re dealing with ?? there are answers to all your questions even if you don’t have them figured out quite yet.”

Hearing a voice, Scorpius sat up and noticed the person standing in front of him, pausing a moment before responding. “Oh, it’s not the books fault. My brain just really isn’t in it today.” He responded, giving a small shrug of his shoulders. He appreciated the offer to help, but really didn’t know how he could be helped. “Honestly, I’m not really sure what you could do. I think my brain is just all jumbled up and it’s hard to get it organized enough to be able to actually function.”

a knowing grin crossed their features — “i wish my mind had a map or something sometimes. my thoughts always tend to wander && get lost.” sometimes it felt permanent — like when luna attempted to figure out what exactly was going on in this town. “you could try to focus on one thing at a time ?? easy to say i know. sometimes if you focus on the easiest thing && either figure it out or get it done you’ll least then feel accomplished.” luna paused, lips pursed more in thought before continuing. “or simply let yourself feel, think it all. it’s okay to have a bad day.”
luna had been in the cafe not too long ago, though she hadn’t exactly ordered anything, to be truthful. it was PEACEFUL there, && luna almost had a second home in one of the booths in the back. they had left their USB there ( or at least she hoped so, luna’s things tended to be stolen too ), && of course that very thing held the essay that was due tomorrow. lost in thought, they jumped at the thankfully soft bump. “could i possibly just take a quick look — ??” words trailed off, eyes widening in recognition when she spotted george. luna let out a short, soft laugh — assuming perhaps it was a familiar prank. they paused shortly after however, for if she couldn’t remember everything perhaps it was the same for others. “yes you do, george. i think we went to school together. i’m luna — one of ginny’s friends, if that helps.”

it had taken a while, but george was beginning to recognise that perhaps he didn’t belong in this town any more than some of the other people in it. he’d thought he came here out of choice, to get away from his parents back home, but his dreams were becoming more vivid. that fred kid kept popping up in them, looking so disappointed that his heart felt like it was breaking in two. and another face, his own, but different at the same time. a mirror image that wasn’t the same, like the missing part of his soul. it was, frankly, messing him up, and that was causing him to mess up his orders working at the grind. he’d finished another shift, heading out, when he bumped into someone as he headed towards the door. “sorry, we’re just closing-” he started, until he looked at her and frowned. “do i know you?”
with the revelation that they were stuck here, more && more of luna’s memories no longer made sense. they were different from some of her peers && from what they were describing their world sounded idyllic && felt right. it explained why strange things happened sometimes ; lights flickering with heighted emotion, unlocking doors with one thought for instance. thoughts paused however when she noticed the other go from seemingly peaceful to distressed. “i promise that book isn’t so awful ... once you get past the first few hundred pages.” they trilled, offering a small yet kind grin. ”you seem upset. i know as a stranger i probably can’t do much, but is there anything i can do to help ??”

All Scorpius wanted to do was find his way home. He had a life and friends that he lost coming to this place, like most people. He didn’t even know where to start, or how to do it, but he was hoping that he might actually be able to figure it out. Sitting at a table in the park, his flipped through the book in front of him before realizing he was figuring nothing out, and possibly not even really reading anything. Letting out a breath, his head landed on his arms that were crossed over his book. His head felt like it was swirling and he couldn’t make sense of any of it.
one look at the sky was all it took for luna to be pretty sure it was going to storm later. which only meant that they wouldn’t want to be going back && forth between classes && their apartment. so alas, there they were, lugging all their textbooks around campus. she knew she looked rather FOOLISH, but at the time it seemed like a good idea. now she only had regret, jaw tight with concentration as she clung to the heavy books for dear life, GRATEFUL when the other offered a seat. “oh !! thank you. you’re way too nice.” luna breathed out, plopping down next to alice, yet carefully placing their books down beside themselves. books, whether for pleasure or for university, were things luna held in HIGH REGARD. “you’re a lifesaver.” a grin && a light chuckle, luna’s gaze peered down at the other’s textbook. “you have a test or something ??”

when alice had woken that morning, she’d been relieved to see a sky muddled with heavy, dark clouds. the past two days had been intolerably sunny, and she’d had to email her professors stating she wouldn’t be in class due to migraine. which wasn’t entirely a lie. ever since the news of the she’d been getting them more frequently since the realization that they were all trapped here. it was as if that invisible border was blocking her visions more often than not. her frustration was lessened a bit by the preferable change in weather. her economics textbook lay open in her lap, and though her head was down, she was only skimming the pages. it was all stuff she’d studied countless years and years before. besides, she’d already seen that she would pass the test. her dark, spiky head lifted with a friendly smile as someone approached the bench. “ hi. did you want to sit? i can make room. ”

“ So you’re… still in school, then? ” He asked, honestly surprised that the conversation had lasted this long. Still, that must have been a good sign, right? “ Well, something tells me that might be better than the muggle job I’m forced to work. ” Don’t get him wrong, he enjoyed his job, but Draco Malfoy always needed something to complain about. “ I suppose I can agree with that. There are some things that don’t compare, but for the most part the food is decent. ”

“studying at the local uni. biology with a focus on animal science eventually.” animals had always been nicer than people. “too many are going extinct these days. && maybe there’s more out there, waiting to be found or that once existed.” it didn’t matter with whom she was talking to, animals && creatures had always been a passion of theirs, they could ramble for hours. muggle — it felt like a familiar word yet when trying to define it in their head, luna couldn’t. “— well ... what is it exactly ?? but i do agree. it’s always best to do something rather than nothing. keeps the mind sane && in tact.”

“When did you get here, Luna?” Hermione asked genuinely. It seemed like their whole community was turning up and it had been quite the sight. But having Luna here felt like maybe things were normal again. Now the other’s just needed to show up. “Oh this? Thanks, I wore it for someone but I don’t know if it will end up panning out the way I’d hoped. We’ll have to see how things work out with him through the night.” She said and her smile got a little bigger as she moved her focus onto Luna more. “But you look amazing! I love that you are always just yourself. It’s such a nice relief to see you here in all of this chaos. But I know what you mean about it being home.” Hermione said with a nod. “Now if only everyone else could show up, right?”

"about a month or two, give or take. you ??” truthfully the timing of it all was a bit h a z y . sometimes it felt like she’d been here for years && other times like she just go here. but that’s how time worked right ?? years that, while in them, felt like they’d never end happened so quickly when looking back. at hermione’s words gaze turned genuinely a bit upset at her disappointment. “well if it means anything, they’re foolish to not appreciate it or you if that’s the case. && not to overstep — but i’d say always dress for yourself. you’ll look just as radiant, i promise.” they muttered off, though meant it. “being oneself always attracts the right people.” eventually, even if few && far between in some cases. luna’s smile warmed all the more at the compliment. “it would be nice to have a little reunion, wouldn’t it ?? it feels like it’s been forever. i couldn’t even tell you the last time we were all in one space.”
seeing familiar faces around ivywood was becoming a more common occurrence. it was always a bit of relief, regardless of the individual. regardless also, if what they remembered && what luna did some of the time differed. despite how troubling the times were, luna did miss home, especially their dad. so if he couldn’t be here, it was nice to at least have a few people from back home. “hermione !!” smile genuine, warm. “it’s so nice to see you too. what a surprise, though a very good one indeed !!” they chimed, gaze moving between her && the ballroom. “i love your dress. seeing you && being in this place, reminds me of home in a way, you know ??”
Other than a few of the adults and Ginny and her kids, and Draco of course, Hermione really hadn’t seen anyone from her hometown here. The adults were all off doing their own things and Hermione was still trying to remember exactly what had happened over the past years of her life. So to see Luna there at the ball made things feel calm, for the first time in awhile. Even if Hermione found the girl a bit odd, she was a welcoming presence. “Luna! Look at you! You look wonderful tonight.” Hermione said walking up to her. “It’s so good to see you, you wouldn’t believe how much of a sight for sore eyes you are.”

Draco had to admit that, although he was trying to give himself a fresh start, he really didn’t believe that anyone besides Hermione would give him the chance. Of all people, though, he supposed Luna would be most likely to, and clearly that was the case. ‘ That’s how I’ve chosen to see it. ” He spoke, hand absent-mindedly going to the spot where his dark mark once was. His tattoo was covered by his tuxedo sleeve, but still. “ I can think of about a hundred places that would be worse than this, surprisingly enough. ”

well, make that another thing the two apparently agreed on. they wouldn’t have believed they ever would a few years ago. but people evolved, luna would be one of the first to agree with that too. how dull, being the same person throughout one’s entire life. “well, college is certainly better than high school ever was.” luna may still be an o u t s i d e r to most, a friend a RARITY, but it was more common to see people being their true selves && not be questioned for it. “&& the states have way better food, even if we never went hungry back home either.” luna mused, attempting to lighten the air.

Draco frankly couldn’t blame Luna for their reaction, and if this conversation had taken place a couple months ago he might have even found it satisfying. But he had to admit, as terrible as the feeling was, it stung. “ If that’s what you’d prefer, so be it. ” He muttered, content to move on until they asked a question. Letting out a sigh, he shrugged. “ A month, give or take. ”

while luna may not exactly be worried about the all the rumors of this town going around, they did want to understand. always CURIOUS, always wanting to help even if they hardly knew how to. regardless, luna was more likely to embrace one’s theories instead of knocking them down. “well it is a new place ; some would say that calls for a fresh start.” they shrugged, nodding along. “myself as well i think. but seems like there are way worse off places to be.”
while luna couldn’t exactly remember the particulars, the sight of one draco malfoy had them a bit uneasy. if luna were anyone else, perhaps they’d be worried about such a lapse, but she wasn’t. things always sorted themselves in the end. “well perhaps you should continue to not have such a realization. might be EASIER for everyone.” she paused however, gaze not wandering away. he seemed different, && she was CURIOUS. “how long have you been here ??”

Of all of the people from his Hogwarts days, he supposed that it would make sense for Looney Lovegood to be in the middle of a strange situation. Still, he figured that his first time seeing her would be out in public, not in the middle of a gala. “ I didn’t realize you were in town. ” He spoke civilly. He was trying to better himself, after all.
weight swayed from foot to foot in rhythm with the beat as DREAMY gaze wandered around the venue until she spotted a familiar face. a slight squeal erupted from luna as danced her way over, eyes wide, bright. “lara jean !! i hope you know how SPECTACULAR you look. if not, i’ll make sure to remind you every hour until you’re sure of it.” luna meant it to. knowing her she’d set an alarm to remind herself to do just that. “have you seen the chocolate fountain yet ??” luna’s thoughts were always rapid with no real destination. && currently ?? her massive sweet tooth was on the mind. “— it’s the biggest one i’ve ever seen.” @dcvinely / lara jean covey.
events that broke up the norm of daily life were always luna approved. she felt l i g h t e r already, a quick twirl on the back her heel as a chuckle passed her lips. “this place is so FANCY, ginny.” she chimed, blue eyes turning to her friend ( such an uncommon word for luna to say, to even think of having, but in ginny it rung true ). “before i forget, i made you something. as your friend && honorary date i simply had to.” && with that luna pulled out a piece of paper from her purse, a drawing she made of the other. “i can hold onto if for you till the end if you want. but it’s my thanks. you know, for coming with me && everything.” @spcllbovnd / ginny weasley.
luna had never been one to overly care about appearances. it’s not that they’d let themselves go, if anything it was the opposite. whatever spoke to her that day is what she’d wear — && luckily sometimes it matched. the questioning STARES was something she was rather used to at this point — as well as the inevitable comments from some. her usual reaction to such, a small grin, quickly formed. “but yellow is such a WARM color. it’s bright — a person can’t not be happy when looking at yellow. that’s just science.” luna rebutted, shrugging their shoulders. “but i will agree with you on periwinkle && seafoam green. those are lovely colors too. they go quite nicely together too — always reminds me of the water or something. — actually i saw a floral shirt at finder’s keepers the other day with those very colors.”
Regina didn’t remember much of anything. To her knowledge, she has always been in Ivywood. Maybe that’s why she felt so assertive as she would have been back at home. Still, she was still the same Regina. Manipulative, brutally honest, beautiful. It was a shame that she wouldn’t have much character development even without her memories. Anyways, Regina was on the prowl for new photoshoot spots. If she wanted to continue her growth on Instagram, and other social media apps, she needed to up her game. On the search for one, however, she spotted someone who, in her opinion, was in a fashion emergency. Even though in high school she wouldn’t say it to their face, she was more than ready to give unsolicited advice. “That color does not look good on you. May I suggest a periwinkle or… maybe even a seafoam green?” Pink was her color, however, but she limited it to Wednesdays.

Rue’s eyes went wide. It wasn’t a question that she’d expected, and she honestly had to think for a moment before answering. “ Well, right now I’m reading Pride and Prejudice. We didn’t have a lot of books like this back home, and so far it’s a pretty good read. ” She smiled, holding up the book in question. “ I don’t know, it’s hard for me to pick a favorite. ”
"a fan of LOVE i take it ?? well, it is the season, can’t fault you for that.” luna knew it was a classic, but it was one she had yet to read. “i’ll take your word for it && get it,” she nodded with a knowing smile. “i guess it was rather unfair of me to ask. there’s so many && sometimes it depends on the day.” a pause, she racked her brain for how even she’d answer that question. “ — have you heard of area 51 ?? i read a book about it once, had evidence to support the study of aliens there. i quite enjoyed that one. then again, to say it’s my favorite ?? it’d be a stretch.”
books of all kinds had always been a comfort. a SANCTUARY with the world being as it was. even nonfiction novels were able to lighten spirits. luna was a frequent customer to the shop, whether they were there for h o u r s reading about how saolas live out in the wild or just there to quickly pick something up. lips pursed as they took a moment to answer ( honestly asking themselves that same question ). “yes, actually. what’s your favorite book ?? i think it can tell a lot about a person, don’t you ?? plus i’d love something maybe new.”
Rue’s days were usually spent in her little shop, tucked away in the corner of town. She did good business, but the majority of her day was spent behind the counter reading, or restocking the shelves. Currently, she was doing the former, until she heard the little bell over the door ring, signaling that someone had entered the shop. Putting a bookmark in her book, she stood. “ Can I help you find anything? ”
