Neil choosing Andrew means everything to me. No one ever chose Andrew for who he is. His own mother gave him away and kept his brother. His whole life, Andrew had to bargain with promises and violence just to keep people close.
And then there’s Neil Josten with his stupid big Bambi eyes and a heartbeat like a rabbit in a trap. And he isn’t interested in anyone but Andrew. Just Andrew.
It’s like the universe is trying to apologize, awkwardly patting Andrew on the back and tying a bow around Neil’s head like some kind of peace offering.

Neil Josten is a really fucking phenomenal protagonist. Unreliable narrator or not, I really enjoyed his internal monologue. The reason I like his perspective so much is because we can we constantly see his internal conflict. He KNEW his father would find him, he KNEW about the Moriyamas and was terrified and he STILL CHOSE the Foxes and Andrew and Exy over it all. Even when he knew he was about to DIE, he told himself to that it was enough, because it was more than he ever thought he'd have.
I just- god, I love him so much. He's should be considered a national treasure. Anyway, happy birthday to Neil Abram Josten and thank you for coming to my TED talk.
Because he's been meme-ified a lot over the years, I feel the need to point out how smart he is. I mean, yes, he comes across as this feral, impulsive sort of character (and he has a lot of dumb energy, lol), but he's also really logical and precise. I love how complex and multilayered his character is. Nora did such a fabulous job writing him.

CHARACTER OF ALL TIME, that is a protagonist who knows how MOVE THE MFING PLOT ALONG
I feel like we forget sometimes how insane Ronan's crush on Adam was. Like, oh my god? They weren't even dating for most of these... The longing, the yearning, the devotion, the lovesick pining - 10/10, *chef's kiss*, nobody is doing it like him. He loves Adam - lonesome, unknowable Adam - like it's breathing. They make me violently ill.
The first time I read The Foxhole Court I legitimately thought that Kevin was the love interest… I love andreil and they will always be endgame for me, but I admire the fact that there are so many possible ship combinations in the aftg-verse.
