Ahhh yes! That ending scene with Zack was fantastic, what a range of emotions the first time I watched it. Confused, worried Iād see a sad ending again, confused again, dawning comprehension, then a ton of exciting and wtf combined. I think Iām still stuck in that last one, haha.
Thank you for putting in words what I was too sleepy to express last night! Yes, when I saw the last stand I feared I would have finished the game in tears like I did when I played CC, but I ended up in tears anyway when I saw him alive. This ending is so full of hope, expectations and misteries. I can't understand people who disliked it.
That hug hitted home so hard! Such a big load of emotions: need of comfort, trust, that "inexplicable something" buried inside Cloud that lead him to hug her... I really hope the devs will spend a scene in the future to show how he will re-evaluate this moment after regaining his true-self.
Barret is absolutely the cherry on top of this game and his English VA can't be prized enough for his amazing job. I don't know how he sounds in JP but the English one made a great job in conveying the essence of the character even in the perspective of non-native English players. I found him so grotesque in the OG but now I can't help but love him. His interactions with other characters are great but, yes, his bond with Marlene is priceless.
My very second favourite part of the game is Aerith rescuing Marlene (rescuing Betty, encouraging Wedge to save the Sector 7 citizens, all the scene), but your moments are close ones. There are so many beautiful well-developed and emotional scenes and so much attention to details that it's even difficult to establish a ranking. Otherwise we wouldn't be here after a year still noticing&analyzing new details :)
What are your expectations for the Intergrade? Since the devs had complete freedom about the setting of this episode I hope we could see the Sector 7 fall from the upper plate perspective and I'm really looking forward for any reference to Denzel.
happy ffviir 1 year anniversary! ššš do you have a moment or detail from the remake that's still your favorite even a year later?
Hi Hartofhearts!
Happy first year anniversary to you too!
Well there are MANY moments I really love about this first part of the Remake, but if I have to choose just one, I definitely take this scene, and all that follows it until the end.Ā
This is by far the most unexpected and most welcomed change of the Remake and it still gives me goose bumps!Ā I canāt wait to see where this will lead, I really hope he could be reunited with Aerith this timeā¦!
What about you??
SPOILER ALERT! Spoilers about the FFVII compilation.
FFVII Remake includes a lot of Easter eggs referring to the whole FF7 compilation. This is the second post, and it will include the references toā¦
Crisis Core is a PSP game released in 2007. Itās a prequel to FFVII and focuses on the adventures of Zack Fair.
āHavenāt seen him before. He your new boy toy?ā Rude is referring to Zack, Aerithās boyfriend at the time of Crisis Core. Veryā¦rude though (Chapter 8).
- Angeal used to refer to Zack as a puppy.
- Stamp the dog is a new misterious element added in the Remake. Heās a beagle, but at the end of the game, when Zack survives, we see it changing in a terrier.
Are you Zack the puppy? My son wrote to me once about you, zero attention span, restless as a little puppy.
- There are some billboards of āBanora Whiteā apple juice in Midgar.
- These fruits only grow in Banora, and the juice was invented by Genesis.
Aerith asks Cloud to be her bodyguard in exchange for one date. Yes, this was already in the original FFVII but the gesture is taken from Crisis Core (Chapter 8).
- Zack suggested Aerith to sell flowers and they started selling them together in Evergreen Park.
- Aerith and Cloud arrive in Evergreen Park and she remembers the time she used to sell flowers there (Chapter 9).
You know, a long time ago, I used to sell flowers here.
In Chapter 9 Aerith stares at Cloudās beautiful eyes the same way she did with Zack. In Japanese Zack and Cloud answer with the same sentence.
- Zack asked Aerith to wear something pink when they would have met again.
- The pink dress has always been Aerithās distinctive mark since 1997, but her optional outfits in the Remake, that were not in the original FFVII, are pink too (Chapter 9).
From now on, why donāt we make a promise every time we meet? (ā¦) For example, when we meet, you always have to dress in pink.
- The training room was a virtual reality simulator used by SOLDIERs in Crisis Core.
- Cloud, Tifa and Barret find a battle simulator in Shinra HQ in Chapter 16.
- Hojo says he wants to breed Aerith with S and G type SOLDIERS.
- In Nibelheim Mako reactor Genesis told Sephiroth about Project S and Project G. The first gave birth to Sephiroth, the second to Angeal and Genesis. Project G was also used to create Deepground SOLDIERs (Chapter 16).
CC: āJenova project G gave birth to Angeal and monsters like myself. Jenova project S used the remains of countless failed experiments to create a perfect monster.āĀ
FF7R: āWe could have the Ancient reproduce. (ā¦) I would start with candidates from SOLDIER. These would of course include S and G types.ā
- Genesis was a failed experiment and his body kept degrading irreversibly.
- In Chapter 7 President Shinra, after noticing that Cloud is a SOLDIER, points out that SOLDIERs usually die pretty soon because of cellular degradation.
Once a SOLDIER, always a SOLDIER. Though not, alas, for very long. Accelerated cellular degradation being the most common cause of death by far.
- Kunsel was a SOLDIER and friend of Zack.
- When some infantrymen see Cloud and recognize him they say theyāll go and call Kunsel (Chapter 16).
Cloud? Youāre Cloud, right? (ā¦) We went through training together. (ā¦) Hey, sit tight man ā I'mma go get Kunsel.
āWorst route ever. Gimme a suicidal last stand. At leastā At leastāat least thatād have an end!ā Barret says this sentence while climbing Shinra backstairs, at 49th floor ā SOLDIERs floor. Itās a reference to Zackās last stand (Chapter 16).
Before entering in the dimensional portal Aerith says that beyond it thereās āFreedom. Boundless, terrifying freedomā. It reconnects with Zackās iconic sentence before his last stand āThe price of freedom is steepā (Chapter 18).
- In Crisis Core Aerith told Zack that the real sky frightened her.
- At the end of the Remake Aerith says āI miss it. The steel skyā, referringĀ the upper plate that covered the real sky. In Japanese she says āTheĀ skyā¦I hate itā, because it took away from her Zack and her mother. (Chapter 18).
- Zack had a dream in Crisis Core that foreshadowed his death. He was looking at the sky wishing to have wings like Angeal.
- In the Remake he defeats his destiny and looks at the sky in the same position (Chapter 18).
This iconic scene is replicated shot-for-shot in Chapter 18

i see it's that time of the year again where people start hating on the english localization of remake/rebirth despite having next to no understanding of how large scale translation projects work š
I - 30something yo mom - never looked "adult" once in my life. Draw fanart, play videogames, rant about fictional stories and lores, cosplay, read manga and basically do whatever makes me feel good and I regret nothing.
Bc once your age hits a 'serious' number, you start to think - "damn, I should probably stop geeking and get more serious." But then you scroll and see a 34y/o woman writing fics after driving her kids to school, a 40y/o dude making fanart of his fav super heroes and you realize - "nah, I'm actually good"
