Thanks for rebloging @cwwonder. The reaction I had to just seeing this poem while scrolling on my break at work was one like no other👍
"When I was fourteen I lay down with you
our eyes misty with urge,
our mouths in open moan
The sun was big in those late afternoons
swollen and red-ripe,
it filtered in stripes on wallpaper
and wet linen.
—Do you know what we are? you said"
Art Garfunkel, What Is It All But Luminous: Notes from an Underground Man
Care to discuss this pearl?
with how ever many times they said song writing is like sex. just thought about how they strum with the dominant hands and something something jerking off
another great garfunkel response
Thanks for sharing this @frederic-simon-and-ira-garfunkel. One of my favourite interviews because it’s so interesting to see Art’s perspective of things post breakup. This has to be one of my favourite parts - I few like it explains a lot about why Art’s attitude in interviews seems so odd sometimes.
An early demo of Simon and Garfunkel’s “The Only Living Boy in New York” (excerpted from the 1975 BBC series on the duo). I wish this line had made it into the final version!
Okay listen to this audio then watch the Kraft Music hall performance of this song… https://youtu.be/-HQ2j-SGBZk?si=_RtpW_FhoziBVTBm
Obsessed with these matching cassette tape covers.
Imagine hearing him read the infamous “lover of asses” line. Or the masturbation one. For my own wellbeing I think I will pass on this
Random post I guess, but just so you know, if you have an Audible subscription you can buy Artie’s autobiography read by him
Can you imagine us years from today
Sharing a park bench quietly
How terribly strange to be seventy
Old friends
Memory brushes the same years
Silently sharing the same fears

Stranger to stranger
If we met for the first time, this time
Could you imagine us
Falling in love again?
Still believing that love endures
All the carnage and useless detours
Oh I love you, I love you, I love you…

I met Paul in our school play, Alice in Wonderland. He was this funny guy who cracked me up all the time. We loved “Earth Angel” and we emulated the Everly Brothers. We would stare at each other’s mouths to copy each other’s diction. I would watch where the tongue hit the palate when Paul said a t. We would be nose to nose. When you’re very young, you’re insane. You’re a fanatic about your loves. The world hasn’t shown you how to corral the thing and be normal.
Okay, can we please talk about how Song for the asking is literally written almost like a desperate love confession? It’s killing me like “Take it, don't turn away I've been waiting all my life” oh go to jail Paul Simon.
(Also, a bonus - this is a clip from the harmony game documentary where Paul and Art talk about this song. We’ve probably all seen it a million times but it never gets old 🤕)
here's hoping people never stop asking
THIS IS WILLEM VAN GENK'S WIKIPEDIA PAGE
this is going to have me on my hands and knees dry heaving
I might be down by the schoolyard with Julio btw
the neurotypical mind couldn’t bare comprehend a classic rock autist’s vision of gender
if they made a gay movie about simon and garfunkel maybe then you guys would care
i talk about the 70s like i was there
Lost Gen X bedroom in the attic of an abandoned house.
