These days it was rare that Kiera even had enough time to visit any shop that wasn’t her own tiny restaurant. But she had almost forgotten that it was her aunt’s birthday this weekend, and that she needed a gift. Luckily for her, her aunt wasn’t very picky, and for some weird reason entirely enamored with masks – and she knew where to get one, thanks to the fact that it wasn’t the first one she wanted to gift her. Eyes traveling over the masks on the wall, she shrugged her shoulders as the question was placed. “I’m not sure yet.” Her fingers were itching to just snap and get the masks from the wall herself, but instead she pointed to two of the colorful ones. “Could I take a closer look at those? I need a gift for my aunt.”

Grabbing the step ladder from behind the counter, Silas napped it open and proceeded to get the masks down. It was always an interesting experience working in the shop. Meeting all kinds of different styles of people and having a small peek into how they live. Individuals that found masks fascinating were more rare as he stepped out Korea, people finding them creepy or not wanting to feel as though the eyes followed them. Others, like many inside Greece, found them to be part of normal life. Performance tools that many used in theatrical performances, much like his own culture history and loved that he could use his talents again. Silas snagged the two and slowly came back down, placing them both in front of the woman, “We also offer gift boxes to fit the mask, along with wrapping paper to fit the occasion.”

u know what makes me cry..... that one van gogh quote about life changing for the better..... “many people seem to think it foolish, even superstitious, to believe that the world could still change for the better. and it is true that in winter it is sometimes so bitingly cold that one is tempted to say, ‘what do i care if there is a summer; its warmth is no help to me now.’ yes, evil often seems to surpass good. but then, in spite of us, and without our permission, there comes at last an end to the bitter frosts. one morning the wind turns, and there is a thaw. and so i must still have hope.” yeah..... Crying....

It’s OK to be a little weird. You’re an artist and people expect that. Don’t let them down. Now, let’s give this tree a friend. There.

“Silas?”

Nora stepped into the silent, warm interior of Knick Knack, and though the bell on the door announced her arrival, she called for him for good measure, just to be sure. She stepped around the shop, bag over her shoulder and a small stack of business cards in her hand, finally halting at a dining set she’d made a month ago. Much to her delight, a neat handwritten card sat atop it with the single word sold written across it. She’d done matching scrolling carving on the legs of each of the chairs as well as the table, and the table itself could expand to fit more people than just four. About then she heard soft footsteps heading towards her from elsewhere in the shop, and she turned to grin at whom she assumed was Silas himself.

“It sold!” she chirped happily. “That’s wonderful!” Momentarily, the few smaller objects to hand over to him and the additional business cards were forgotten in favor of celebrating the sale of something she’d spent absolute ages on–it was nice to know someone else liked her work as much as she enjoyed making it. @silaskyun

Ding, ding.

The cubi’s heart leapt at the sound of the chime, hyper focused on the object glistening in his hand and notes strewn about. Ever since he had woken up with the scale and no memory of the day before, everything about him didn’t make sense. It was as if the core of his personality shifted slightly and he couldn’t keep his hands off the scale. Currently it was snug inside his pocket, the same one his hand gently slid into as he made his way to the front of his store. Silas’ saving grace was the familiarity of the voice, but it could also be a downfall. Ones that knew him best might notice the behavior shift and his need to understand why he had the scale in the first place, but he hoped Nora would be a good escape. He left his notebook open, still on the day that he had written the events that he no longer could bring back to the forefront.

“To a lovely couple that just moved in together,” a broad smile on his face, welcoming the wolf’s excitement and leaned casually on his front counter, “Asked if you could also do a few other personal pieces to match, if you are up for it.” Which he had assumed Nora would be, already giving the couple reassurance that it could be done. “A lot of people had been eyeing it, but these two seem as though they will cherish it. They both seemed tired of the same old Ikea look and your work is one of a kind, truly meant to be heirloom pieces.”

Keeping up the facade that he was little more than passionate about history and all that it offered up within it’s grasp had always been far too easy for Hudson. He had the ability to retain far more information than most and whatever necessary education he might have needed to pass it off as simply a hobby to those who knew no better. Those that didn’t see his interest in the old and lackluster as the vying grasp for a power he didn’t have yet. “Nothing yet,” He remarked, meandering his way to the desk Silas sat behind, just as he had time and time again. “Anything caught yours?” Or, more to the point, had any thought been considered to Hudson when he’d seen something that might likely belong in a museum rather than his store. “Just wondering if you’ve seen anything come through.. maybe heard about something you don’t have, that I might be a interested in?” Far too often, people held onto things far more valuable than they ever considered them to be; merely for the fact they’d looked so dull, shattered and broken.

image

This question was typical, even if that exact phrase hadn’t always left Hudson’s mouth. Customers often came in looking for any kind of connection, especially rare pieces. Estate sales of wealthy philanthropists whose kids had no love for the antique style and would rather see money in their pockets were prime locations. Luckier even if the family didn’t realize they have items of magical value. That’s where Silas came in. He would try to bid for objects before the public eye got the chance and in turn, sell them or upscale them for his shop. The real issue was pinning down what his customer was looking for and with the current being so vague, it was hard for Silas to understand what exact direction he should take this. “A few things have,” he started, leaning lightly on his chevron wood counter top, “Three estate sales up north and one in Bulgaria. All seem to be promising depending on what you might be looking for.” He reached for his phone, placing it on the counter to ready himself for examples.

Diana’s quest had been a success. That’s what her mother, Anastasia had told her, that’s what the coven celebrated. They did not count the lives that were lost, just the threat that had been subdued before it could ever reach the shores of Corinth Bay. A man who would have stood against the Delphi, quelled by the eldest heir of Vidalis. That was what the coven saw, not the brother that Diana had slain, he was a man she’d never known, yet had been somehow connected to him all her life. It was a surreal feeling to find herself back in Corinth Bay, two years had passed but Diana could scarcely consider herself the woman that she had been before she left.

Before Diana had left she’d attempted to help Silas track down his own sister, before Diana had boarded her vessel and took off in search of the brother of her own. Whatever forces obscured her magic were evident of someone who did not want to be found, but Diana had been able to tell Silas that his sister, Ri, was in Greece, at least. She’d told him then that supernaturals were drawn to Corinth Bay, and if he was patient, she was certain that the two of them would find each other again.

Diana stepped foot into his shop and was impressed with the life that Silas had established for himself, but she wasn’t here as a patron, more as an old friend. “Silas,” Diana greeted, a smile drew across her lips as her grey eyes met that of the incubus, she’d never had reason to fear them. Kasandra and Gabriel both were friends of the Delphi, and Diana knew well what it meant to merely be trying to survive this world. At least now she did. She wanted to embrace him, but it had been years now. “I thought maybe your sister would be here with you by now, I guess that red string is a long one.”

image

The work had been more than exhausting over all these years, but there wasn’t an inch in Silas that would say his sister wasn’t worth it. Many had tried and failed, depleting every option that they could which only lead him so far. At the time, the Japanese government was ruthless and tried to divert eyes away from their wicked intentions. But even throughout them trying to destroy all evidence of this, pieces still remained and stories got passed down. The main issue was tracing certain things back directly to Ri-na and even with the help of outside mystics, it was difficult to find exacts on where she was or ended up. While his heart continued to tell him that she was out there alive, somewhere as something, hope was difficult to keep attached to it when the traces of her seemed to keep running cold.

He pinned it on her ability to cover her tracks— permanent death was not an option in his mind. They had always been linked together and if he was still some form of alive, then she was too. He knew that deep down in his bones. That’s why he sought out Atlas Rose, why he asked for help from Diana Vidalis. Rumored to be some of the most powerful witches and part of an elite coven, all qualities that Silas couldn’t pass up when it came to requesting aid in his search. The Vidalis coven had more than delivered, able to guide him towards confirmation and information about her existence in Greece. Maybe that’s why he also had a calling for the bay during his travels throughout the European countries. Ri-na had to have felt the same calling without being aware of the reasons why.

Bell ringing lightly from the front of the shop, the incubus emerged from the back room to find the familiar face of Diana and gave her a homely expression. “Diana, it’s so good to see you again,” a truly genuine tone as he approached the counter, “Rumor is that she is in Corinth proper now, should be soon. It’s still a mystery what all she has been through and it’s really no wonder it took so long for me to even piece this much together.” Maybe he could get assistance on another tracking spell, a powerful one that could be localized, but Silas was still learning what all witches were actually capable of and felt a bit foolish asking.

“Silas, you have to pretend to be a little excited. Don’t give me that look – or I’ll invite Safiye instead and let you watch through your little shop window.” He waved a hand in the direction of Pandora’s Lore, smiling a little at the other cubi. Gabriel sighed dramatically and pulled himself up onto the counter, “A half hour? What do you expect me to do while I wait? Dust your shelves? My hands are far too delicate for that kind of work, darling.”

image

“You and I both know that’s an empty threat or you would already be at her doorstep,” the fellow cubi retorted with a chuckle, this hardly being the first time something similar fell from Gabriel’s lips when Silas didn’t seem as thrilled as he anticipated. By this time, to his friends dismay, the cubi had fully intended on going along with any plan. He had just grown to love ruffling Gabriel’s feather’s and learning more about him through the reactions. “And I’m sure you can find a way to entertain yourself for a measly half hour— you have made it this long, after all,” a bit of a devious grin emerged onto Silas’ face as his charcoal hues peer at his friend, “What was it like being the first human being, anyway? You’re what— one hundred and ninety thousand now?”

Hadn’t Silas felt that before? That encroaching, hair-raising feeling that had once started in a tiny shop in Andong. One that the incubus had not recognized then, but oh he’d wished he would have realized was the start of this long, immortal journey. Pandemonium. Why Seokga’s grasp was so firm on Korea during those days of tyranny and war, what all of this had done to his family and friends who would never understand that they had never done anything wrong besides exist. So as the sensation grew stronger— bell chiming at the door of Knick Knack, surpassing the portions in Silas that still felt agony about those days began to bubble up. “How-” even if he knew exactly what to say, the words hardly wanted to leave his throat anyway and only moved his onyx hues to capture the moment. The individual that stood before him held different features, sun-kissed skin that didn’t quite match his tempestuous gaze, though the incubus knew deep down was connected to him.

This is new ground Ophelia finds herself on. She knows more of cubi by reputation and what the furies taught her than personal history, and Silas is nothing like she had been expecting. Perhaps that is why she finds him so fascinating. Green eyes watch for him, from behind the counter of the tea shop, where he had been a frequent patron before the pride festival. Perhaps she’s scared him off? Regrettable, to be sure, though she suspects not many of his species would willingly choose to spend time around her; that had been another point of her curiosity, how he never seemed to be particularly afraid, or even worried in her presence. Ophelia has just about written him off as a willing participant to their game, much to her disappointment, when she finally spies him reenter AnxieTea — and the smile that graces her face is not false, for once. Their song and dance is not quite finished. Good. Once she is certain to not leave her coworker swamped with customers, she steps out to take her break, making a beeline for Silas. “Rather well, I think. So many interesting things to see, and people to meet. I don’t think I’ll be bored.” The double entendre is there, clear as day for anyone who has the appropriate context. And then, because Ophelia has always been bold, she adds, “you were gone for quite awhile. I wondered if I’d seen the last of you.”

Opheliancano:

A hardened swallow after a long drink from his tea, processing her words as they lingered in the space surrounding them and made a point to not allow his feelings to surface. The feelings of intrigue and wonderment on how she could have plucked the question from his brain— how she might have actually been concerned for him in some way. Not that an individual being endearing towards the incubus was foreign, his natural magnetism making it fairly simple in most settings, but that was obsolete here. With Ophelia, it was all genuine and that in itself was enough to shake up his perspective. “Hardly,” he finally mustered up in response, a light grin emerging as the tea cup found its place on the coaster in front of them, “Best tea blends in town, if you ask me.” Though they both knew that wasn’t the only reason Silas found himself roaming to its doors, even if his guts refused for him to admit that detail out-loud and tried to keep the subject on her versus himself, “I’m sure not. There always seems to be something exhilarating happening, especially in this town. I’m sure it will be quite effortless for you to find and keep your foothold.” Which was true, her aura calling attention to its daring and valorous nature.
