“Silas?”

Nora stepped into the silent, warm interior of Knick Knack, and though the bell on the door announced her arrival, she called for him for good measure, just to be sure. She stepped around the shop, bag over her shoulder and a small stack of business cards in her hand, finally halting at a dining set she’d made a month ago. Much to her delight, a neat handwritten card sat atop it with the single word sold written across it. She’d done matching scrolling carving on the legs of each of the chairs as well as the table, and the table itself could expand to fit more people than just four. About then she heard soft footsteps heading towards her from elsewhere in the shop, and she turned to grin at whom she assumed was Silas himself.

“It sold!” she chirped happily. “That’s wonderful!” Momentarily, the few smaller objects to hand over to him and the additional business cards were forgotten in favor of celebrating the sale of something she’d spent absolute ages on–it was nice to know someone else liked her work as much as she enjoyed making it. @silaskyun

Ding, ding.

The cubi’s heart leapt at the sound of the chime, hyper focused on the object glistening in his hand and notes strewn about. Ever since he had woken up with the scale and no memory of the day before, everything about him didn’t make sense. It was as if the core of his personality shifted slightly and he couldn’t keep his hands off the scale. Currently it was snug inside his pocket, the same one his hand gently slid into as he made his way to the front of his store. Silas’ saving grace was the familiarity of the voice, but it could also be a downfall. Ones that knew him best might notice the behavior shift and his need to understand why he had the scale in the first place, but he hoped Nora would be a good escape. He left his notebook open, still on the day that he had written the events that he no longer could bring back to the forefront.

“To a lovely couple that just moved in together,” a broad smile on his face, welcoming the wolf’s excitement and leaned casually on his front counter, “Asked if you could also do a few other personal pieces to match, if you are up for it.” Which he had assumed Nora would be, already giving the couple reassurance that it could be done. “A lot of people had been eyeing it, but these two seem as though they will cherish it. They both seemed tired of the same old Ikea look and your work is one of a kind, truly meant to be heirloom pieces.”

The shop had always been on the street, a beacon of chaos and intrigue for any passer by. Ara would often pass it on his way home, it’s niche allure was a temptress and yet Ara always managed to continue on his way with little thought to what lay behind the old doors. On this day however, Ara hadn’t been able to shake its spell. Taking a detour and stepping through the threshold, he was bewitched by the amount of stand out items that seemed to litter the entirety of the shop. The smooth voice drifting from further within the knick knack shop tore him from his enchanted trance, “I – uh. Honestly everything,” his gaze fell from the different antiques and odd ends to meet the eyes of the shop keeper, “you probably get that a lot,” he flashed a smile, “Just thought I’d stop in. It’s a lot bigger than I thought it would be.”

image

A chuckle fell from the shop owners lips and Silas felt humbled once again. He loved watching eyes light up, followed by ‘oo’ and ‘awe’. That was part of the reason he stayed in this line of work, second to the burning passion he had felt from a young age. “Probably not as often as you would think,” his Greek was noticeably choppy, but far enough along that his accent didn’t disrupt the understanding, “Some are afraid to walk-in without a purpose, not wanting to leave without at least a purchase. Others have a need or desire that they are looking for.” His smile continued, charcoal hues falling on the stranger as they took in every inch of the space, “I appreciate the compliments none-the-less. An artist always strives for that and I know the others whose work is displayed would agree.”

Where: Knick Knack Who: @silaskyun

How long had she been in the shop? Five minutes? Ten, fifteen? Sanem couldn’t even properly remember when she had actually entered the shop, nor what she was even looking for. Perhaps it was one of those ‘you’ll know it when you see it’ kind of moments. But she’d entered the store on a whim, and now was lost among the various items on tables and shelves. Maybe she should have accepted the help offered in the beginning, maybe she would have already found something and been on her merry way. Was there a proper etiquette for shopping within a store? Had she exceeded the normal browsing time? “Shoot —,” the word had slipped out of its own accord, lower lip soon enough sucked in between teeth as her gaze lifted to find the store employee.

Sanemvidalis:

Some came in with thoughts on exactly what they wanted to acquire, others just like to browse around the shop until the item they didn’t realize they needed jumped out at them. It never mattered much to Silas either way and found pleasure in both kinds of individuals. He could hear objects being rummaged through, picked up and placed back down, then a small huff of frustration. That was his que, onyx hues gliding towards the customer in time to see her own shifting towards his and gave her a soft grin. “Doing alright?” a blanket question just to get a feel for the situation at hand, not wanting to assume that the wanderer had possibly damaged one of the pieces. Could just be having a hard time pinning down an inkling, it was a fairly frequent occurrence and the Kyun loved using those opportunities to get to know his guests.

Selling jewelry had never been Lena’s original intent when she started to make things as a child. It was a way to hone her metal manipulation abilities without drawing too much attention to herself, and making tiny, intricate pieces of jewelry served well as lessons in control. The keen edge of a sword was easy enough to accomplish, but focusing and moving metal in her hand to form thread-fine filigree required the utmost of skill. She and Silas came to a mutual agreement that she could sell a few pieces at his shop, and Lena was delighted by the prospect.

Throughout the past few weeks, she’d seen a decline in the man’s demeanor, dipping from his usual cheerful ease to someone weighed down by something she couldn’t quite put her finger on, but it most clearly manifested as exhaustion. She couldn’t help but worry about him, particularly when in his presence, and she very nearly asked about him instead of answering the question at hand. “I um… yes, that sounds really good,” she said, flashing him a brief, bright smile before her attention turned to the contents of her purse. She pulled a thick velvet bag from it and pulled at the drawstring, then carefully dumped a handful of rings and one necklace into her hand. “I think window light will be really good for them,” she added as she grabbed the pendant of the necklace, which was a piece of solid metal shaped into a paper crane. The crisp lines and perfect, flat planes caught the light even though she didn’t stand under a direct light, a testament to her ability. For a moment, silence lingered and Lena worried her lip, then finally heaved a heavy sigh and shifted her weight uncomfortably. “Are you okay? You seem. You’ve seemed different. Are you sure it’s okay I’m here right now? I can definitely come back.”

image

The usual excitement for doing business with a local artist was still there, even if the fatigue was present in some of his expressions and he did his best to shroud it in smiles. Lena was a regular around the shop, even without her pieces being present within, and the guilt of worrying anyone about his scale relations was not something the incubus really wished to discuss. Not that he was particularly ashamed of the whole ordeal taking him over, just that he desperately wanted to move on and not dwell too much on his past mishaps. It kept him from healing and Silas needed every bit of it he could muster up at this point. But the care in her voice and concern that hung onto her expression stopped him from ignoring the questions. He had been reminded that friends were important after keeping the curse’s stronghold away from even Gabriel’s knowledge and it was foolish to push people away that just wanted to help. Don’t run, embrace.

“Just been under the weather,” he stated, charcoal hues meeting the witches before looking back down at her handcrafted jewelry with admiration, “I had to close the shop up for about a week just to get some rest, but I’m starting to recover. The worst is over now. Just uh— just been needing a lot more sleep than I anticipated, but don’t worry. Having the shop open for a little while is helping get me back on a schedule.” So maybe keeping some things from Lena about the scale wasn’t all that bad, though he was being truthful about being unwell for a time. “No need to come back,” he added to give her verification and hopefully ease the worry of needing to leave, “I was rather looking forward to seeing and hearing about what you have been up to.”

🛌 from @kasandrarosales take a nap with yours

The only reason Silas knew the days had changed was by the light or darkness he found when his eyes finally opened. Nightmares, regardless of the time the cubi’s eyes finally shut, had been more than brutal and real to the point of needing another to tell him this was reality. Maybe that was why he found himself on Kasandra’s front door — or maybe it had more to do with her actually being able to relate to his issues. As many people as he could got a white lie or two, residual effects of the eidolons and seeing his family like that, though it was truly the emerald scale that ruled every inch of his experiences. He passed the floor of her entryway and tapped again on the door, wondering if his original was too soft out of anxiety of even being here. It had been awhile since he felt close or desperate enough to seek aid in another, suddenly hearing the gentle footsteps of the other checking to see who it was. The creek of the door echoed as Silas turned towards the noise with a half-hearted grin and yearning hues, “I-uh.” Now that the fellow cubi was staring at him, Silas wasn’t sure how to ask but forced his tired brain to make a sentence, “Do you mind if I try to sleep on your couch? I— I would appreciate the help and just discerning what is authentic.”

There he was again— Giovanni, the cubi remembered as a sigh fell from his lips before the man entered his establishment. It wasn’t that he didn’t fully like the guy, well, actually Silas could truly say that something about the human rubbed him a strange way. The presence and aura around him caused a bubbling within Silas’s gut, though he wasn’t exactly sure what that meant for the cubi in the grand scheme of things. After all, Giovanni didn’t hold as much power as someone such as himself but that had never stopped mortal’s from wreaking havoc when they felt the desire to. “Why, hello Giovanni. Long time no see,” a warm tone given the feeling that crept into his belly as their eyes met, “You’re a sight for sore eyes.” A relaxed pause as he leaned lightly on the front counter, listening to the graceful footsteps coming towards him, “What can I do for you this evening?”

Zeus, Thetis, Demeter

Zeus: What thing are you most hypocritical of?Myself, honestly. Even after these sixty plus years, I haven’t completely let rest to the fact that my gods will no longer accept me. It isn’t until the overwhelming hunger sets in that I actually go to feed that I’m reminded again, playing it off as though my own survival is necessary. Other lives seem so much more important to me until I cannot take it anymore.

Thetis: What’s the most you’ve ever done for your loved ones? Before and even after the change I’ve done a lot for my family. I suppose it’s difficult to compare one moment to the next, but my time of being a War Artist really was a huge sacrifice. I sent my time away from them, constantly wondering if they were still safe at my Aunt’s inn. I would go back home to give them money and then be right back to traveling the next day, it was— it was a very difficult time for all of us.

Demeter: What would you most grieve for if it was taken from you?I’ve already had it all taken, so there is not much I would grieve for any longer. I still grieve for my family, for my sister, which have all been taken from me.

“Hand wrapped? What a service.” Kiera smiled as she leaned over the boxes, considering her choice for a moment. Her aunt was an affectionate woman though, and so she quickly made her decision and pointed towards the box with the words on them. “I think I’ll take that one. I think she’ll love it.” She also liked reusing boxes such as this one, so Kiera was happy with her choice as she leaned against the counter. “Do you hand wrap everything you sell?”, she asked curiously, always interested in how other people handled their shops, whether they involved food or not.

“Yes, especially when I know it's a gift,” he replied as his hands fiddled with paper and bubble wrap. The sound made it a bit hard for the cubi’s softer voice to talk over, but managed to get the message across regardless. It was nice to get questioned on his work, even for something as simple as hand wrapping. It meant that someone was interested in more than what they wanted, curious about the workings of others. “You see what I do daily, how about yourself?” charcoal hues were still fixed on the task at hand, but was always interested in how his customer’s lived and their day to day life.
