This is new ground Ophelia finds herself on. She knows more of cubi by reputation and what the furies taught her than personal history, and Silas is nothing like she had been expecting. Perhaps that is why she finds him so fascinating. Green eyes watch for him, from behind the counter of the tea shop, where he had been a frequent patron before the pride festival. Perhaps she’s scared him off? Regrettable, to be sure, though she suspects not many of his species would willingly choose to spend time around her; that had been another point of her curiosity, how he never seemed to be particularly afraid, or even worried in her presence. Ophelia has just about written him off as a willing participant to their game, much to her disappointment, when she finally spies him reenter AnxieTea — and the smile that graces her face is not false, for once. Their song and dance is not quite finished. Good. Once she is certain to not leave her coworker swamped with customers, she steps out to take her break, making a beeline for Silas. “Rather well, I think. So many interesting things to see, and people to meet. I don’t think I’ll be bored.” The double entendre is there, clear as day for anyone who has the appropriate context. And then, because Ophelia has always been bold, she adds, “you were gone for quite awhile. I wondered if I’d seen the last of you.”

Opheliancano:

A hardened swallow after a long drink from his tea, processing her words as they lingered in the space surrounding them and made a point to not allow his feelings to surface. The feelings of intrigue and wonderment on how she could have plucked the question from his brain— how she might have actually been concerned for him in some way. Not that an individual being endearing towards the incubus was foreign, his natural magnetism making it fairly simple in most settings, but that was obsolete here. With Ophelia, it was all genuine and that in itself was enough to shake up his perspective. “Hardly,” he finally mustered up in response, a light grin emerging as the tea cup found its place on the coaster in front of them, “Best tea blends in town, if you ask me.” Though they both knew that wasn’t the only reason Silas found himself roaming to its doors, even if his guts refused for him to admit that detail out-loud and tried to keep the subject on her versus himself, “I’m sure not. There always seems to be something exhilarating happening, especially in this town. I’m sure it will be quite effortless for you to find and keep your foothold.” Which was true, her aura calling attention to its daring and valorous nature.

Knick Knack always attracted many different kinds of people, mostly because the incubus tried to cater to all walks of life. It was the same for anyone looking to sell their artwork and after all these years, Silas had seen just about everything. He noticed each detail and could tell when extra care was taken to design the piece. “The mark of a true craftsman,” he smiled, bits of exhaustion cutting through his tone and moved the ring closer to his eye. Only a few days had passed since the scale had been destroyed, though no matter how much he slept— it just never was quite enough. Running the shop was the only thing pulling him out of bed in the morning, but his strength was coming back slowly. Charcoal hues pulled back as shimmers of the stone danced across his warm expression, “So, what do you think. I have a couple open spots up front that can be personalized to your liking and we can feature your favorites in the window?”

🛌 from @kasandrarosales take a nap with yours

The only reason Silas knew the days had changed was by the light or darkness he found when his eyes finally opened. Nightmares, regardless of the time the cubi’s eyes finally shut, had been more than brutal and real to the point of needing another to tell him this was reality. Maybe that was why he found himself on Kasandra’s front door — or maybe it had more to do with her actually being able to relate to his issues. As many people as he could got a white lie or two, residual effects of the eidolons and seeing his family like that, though it was truly the emerald scale that ruled every inch of his experiences. He passed the floor of her entryway and tapped again on the door, wondering if his original was too soft out of anxiety of even being here. It had been awhile since he felt close or desperate enough to seek aid in another, suddenly hearing the gentle footsteps of the other checking to see who it was. The creek of the door echoed as Silas turned towards the noise with a half-hearted grin and yearning hues, “I-uh.” Now that the fellow cubi was staring at him, Silas wasn’t sure how to ask but forced his tired brain to make a sentence, “Do you mind if I try to sleep on your couch? I— I would appreciate the help and just discerning what is authentic.”

Permanence wasn’t something Petra was used to. So, whenever she set out to find things to decorate her apartment with, she almost always did a one-eighty and left. Buying something meant she was actually looking at her apartment as a place she could call home, and that terrified her. The voice had drawn her away from a path down memory lane and Petra’s attention was on the other for a few heartbeats, looking him over. She wasn’t distrustful of the owner of the simple shop, but she also knew in a place like Corinth Bay, there was always more than meets the eye. “Several things,” Petra replied, short and less than sweet —- her usual tone. “Do you have anything built with minerals, any crystals?” That was her element, the constant she liked to surround herself with. “Good for decoration?”

A gentle nod came from the cubi as he moved closer to the counter top, hand signaling towards the front of his shop, “We have a few small pieces on that shelf there.” An honest phrase as the shelf really only offered trinkets; boxes with crystals as handles, agate replacement door knobs, geodes as cup holders, and various carved statues. But she had said several things, which mean she could be the right owner for— “ Unless you are looking for something a bit larger than that.” His smile continued as he walked around the counter, still keeping his distance to respect his customers space, “I’ve got a few slab style that could be wall mounted or rested.” However, Silas didn’t feel as though she was the type to desire something as generic as that. Even as a human it was easy for him to sense auras and pair objects with people. It was practically in his dna. Which left him with one last option and a long silent pause hung in between them, “It does still need some work, but could be a really nice table if you want to see it.”

The thing about these “supernatural hub” towns was that they made for good shopping. Crystal shops, elaborate flower places, throw in some new age juice place covered in pagan imagery, throw in a vampire bar and one not so stereotypical shop amongst them  and you have BINGO. The place he’d stepped into now was one of those, a free space kind of place. Local art tourist attraction kind of deal, it was an interesting take on the usual tshirt and shot glass place, he supposed. That kind of thing didn’t interest him so much as all of the secondhand stuff. Not quite a thrift store, but there were certainly antiques and if this gig was more long haul, maybe he’d be back for some of them. That wasn’t what he was there for today though, there were few particular things he picked up from these kinds of places. If only he could find them among all the various knick knacks. @silaskyun

Spring months always brought in more business to outside shops like his. After months of being locked inside, everyone was desperate to get out and do a little meandering the streets. It didn’t quite guarantee business, but this resurgence gave him the chance to actually get some fresh wears in the window and new artist work looked at. Not to mention all the lack of sleep between the nightmares and emerald scale that never left the cubi’s pocket, having plenty of time to get various objects moved. Dark, puffy circles hung from Silas’ eyes as he heard the chime of the store bell ring and a stranger wandered inside. Immediately he could sense the abundance of magic as he watched the man slink through the isles, eyes darting about as if he was looking for something specific. “Help you find something?” a tone as friendly as he could under the circumstances, exhaustion hanging onto him with a firm grip.

Diana’s quest had been a success. That’s what her mother, Anastasia had told her, that’s what the coven celebrated. They did not count the lives that were lost, just the threat that had been subdued before it could ever reach the shores of Corinth Bay. A man who would have stood against the Delphi, quelled by the eldest heir of Vidalis. That was what the coven saw, not the brother that Diana had slain, he was a man she’d never known, yet had been somehow connected to him all her life. It was a surreal feeling to find herself back in Corinth Bay, two years had passed but Diana could scarcely consider herself the woman that she had been before she left.

Before Diana had left she’d attempted to help Silas track down his own sister, before Diana had boarded her vessel and took off in search of the brother of her own. Whatever forces obscured her magic were evident of someone who did not want to be found, but Diana had been able to tell Silas that his sister, Ri, was in Greece, at least. She’d told him then that supernaturals were drawn to Corinth Bay, and if he was patient, she was certain that the two of them would find each other again.

Diana stepped foot into his shop and was impressed with the life that Silas had established for himself, but she wasn’t here as a patron, more as an old friend. “Silas,” Diana greeted, a smile drew across her lips as her grey eyes met that of the incubus, she’d never had reason to fear them. Kasandra and Gabriel both were friends of the Delphi, and Diana knew well what it meant to merely be trying to survive this world. At least now she did. She wanted to embrace him, but it had been years now. “I thought maybe your sister would be here with you by now, I guess that red string is a long one.”

image

The work had been more than exhausting over all these years, but there wasn’t an inch in Silas that would say his sister wasn’t worth it. Many had tried and failed, depleting every option that they could which only lead him so far. At the time, the Japanese government was ruthless and tried to divert eyes away from their wicked intentions. But even throughout them trying to destroy all evidence of this, pieces still remained and stories got passed down. The main issue was tracing certain things back directly to Ri-na and even with the help of outside mystics, it was difficult to find exacts on where she was or ended up. While his heart continued to tell him that she was out there alive, somewhere as something, hope was difficult to keep attached to it when the traces of her seemed to keep running cold.

He pinned it on her ability to cover her tracks— permanent death was not an option in his mind. They had always been linked together and if he was still some form of alive, then she was too. He knew that deep down in his bones. That’s why he sought out Atlas Rose, why he asked for help from Diana Vidalis. Rumored to be some of the most powerful witches and part of an elite coven, all qualities that Silas couldn’t pass up when it came to requesting aid in his search. The Vidalis coven had more than delivered, able to guide him towards confirmation and information about her existence in Greece. Maybe that’s why he also had a calling for the bay during his travels throughout the European countries. Ri-na had to have felt the same calling without being aware of the reasons why.

Bell ringing lightly from the front of the shop, the incubus emerged from the back room to find the familiar face of Diana and gave her a homely expression. “Diana, it’s so good to see you again,” a truly genuine tone as he approached the counter, “Rumor is that she is in Corinth proper now, should be soon. It’s still a mystery what all she has been through and it’s really no wonder it took so long for me to even piece this much together.” Maybe he could get assistance on another tracking spell, a powerful one that could be localized, but Silas was still learning what all witches were actually capable of and felt a bit foolish asking.

Gabriel had made his way around the store to stand by Silas finally, tilting his head a little bit more at the snark that exited his friend’s mouth. The other incubus was soft; a kinder spirit than Gabriel had ever met in his entire existence. And that existence was being reminded to him, again. “Oh, so he’s got jokes.” Gabriel huffed out a laugh, shoving Silas lightly, “Unbelievable. I offer you my friendship, my wisdom with all my age, and you just – throw it back at me. Forget it. I’m going to steal the tea recipes and then I’m going to blame you.”

image

“Alright, see you in about thirty minutes,” the fellow cubi kept the smirk firmly planted on his face as Gabriel attempted to psych him out. Silas wasn’t exactly sure if he really needed another with him in order to do the deed, but assumed another set of hands was probably necessary. Either that or another set of eyes. Regardless, he was involved now for better or worse. “Maybe you can support the bookstore across the street while you wait. I’m sure there is something you haven’t seen yet.”
