I'm trying to prove something.
*tries to vanish mysteriously into the fog but you can still see me because i'm wearing light-up shoes*
hii i love your art! especially the style and colors! do you have any advice for someone who's just now starting to consistently draw but gets discouraged (bc i don't have the skillset for the pieces i want to create)?
thank you so much!!
personally, when improving, i try to set minor goals for myself (i. e. making an accurate study of a master, being able to draw an accurate body from memory)
if you’re starting anatomy, some resources i would recommend are constructive anatomy and quickposes!
for colors, i would recommend getting a color wheel! when i choose my colors, i usually try to go for colors that are either very similar on the wheel, or somewhat complementary!
when coloring line art, i fill in the space im going to color with a base color. then i color like normal in another layer over it and lower to opacity so all the colors used appear closer in hue. (ex. below) i also try not to use pure white for anything (besides backgrounds of sketches), because i feel like off-white makes the canvas look warmer!
i’m really not the best at advice and this is always said, practice! remember that your progress will not be linear, and all you can do to improve is to continue! also remember that there isn’t a required skill set to make a piece of art <3

In Dreams (The Raven Cycle amv)
Since The Raven King comes out today, I wanted to post something special before I dive into the end. I’ve been wasting away months of my life drawing all the scenes for this video, and now it’s finally done. I hope you enjoy it!
I’m not going to explain myself
is there anything sexier than saying “check mate”?
Making websites easier to digest:
Dark Reader - Changes any webpage to dark mode.
Mercury Reader - Simplifies the layout of any webpage to eliminate distractions and irritating formatting.
Podcastle AI - Turns any article into a podcast. This is a lifesaver for being able to process what I’m reading, to be honest.
Spelling/grammar:
LanguageTool - Spelling and grammar check for those of us who regularly type in more than one language.
Grammarly - Spelling and grammar check for those of us who only type in English. Can be used with LanguageTool installed, which is what I do.
Google Dictionary - Define any word on the webpage with a double-click.
Google Translate - Translate an entire webpage or even just a short segment.
Misc:
AdGuard Adblocker - After trying quite a few adblocker options, this is the one I find the best.
The Great Suspender - Automatically suspend inactive tabs to help with performance.
Honey - Try coupon codes automatically to save money on online purchases.
Built-in Chrome tab grouping - Group your tabs to keep organized and minimize distracting clutter.
nay, encouraged to…
buy books you’ll never read
abandon books halfway through
read your favorites over and over again
read ‘easy’ books
read books you don’t totally understand
just look at the pictures
start in the middle
take notes
break spines
read the book after you saw the movie
skip the boring parts
keep books out of sentiment
bring a book everywhere
read comics
return books to the library unread
The point, my dear reader, is joy.
the foreign language students
pages of scribbled notes on grammar and verb conjugations
buying copies of your favorite books in the original language, even though you can barely read them
sounding out long words, letting the unfamiliar syllables roll off of your tongue
a knitted blanket wrapped around your shoulders like a shawl
pacing the room, repeating words until they’re memorized
excelling in class, always ready to be called on
vocabulary flashcards tucked in the pocket of your coat
empty mugs scattered across your room
writing down unfamiliar phrases to look them up later
admiring words for themselves, for the beauty in the syllables
flipping through dictionaries, underlining useful words
a longing not only to see the world, but to understand it in its native tongue
soaking up language, keeping the words filed away in your head
carefully dissecting the grammar of a sentence, marking out parts of speech until you can fully understand
never missing a duolingo practice
mumbling to yourself, practicing your accent and inflection
difficult vocab words scribbled on your hand
using idioms to sound more like a native speaker, seeking authenticity
methodical work, notes perfectly organized
the joy of comprehension
sitting on the train and going through flashcards again and again
photos of the places you want to visit pinned to the walls
writing your favorite words in the margins of your notes
putting shows in your target language on in the background, letting the sounds wash over you until they’re familiar

Sit outside and feel sunlight on your skin. Focus on the feeling and let your imagination go free. Don’t think about what is stressing you.
Go for a walk barefoot on the grass and breathe.
Have a technology break and just sit.
Drink a glass of cold water.
Read your favourite sad book. Sit and immerse yourself in the story.
Listen to your favourite meaningful songs. Preferably use headphones and blast it. Sing along to the lyrics and focus on the words and melodies.
Read poetry gently. Really think about what it means.
Sit and cry. Just let everything out.
Reminisce the past. Think over everything.
Write all of your thoughts and feelings down.

i finally managed to get my favourite asmr/ambience/soundscape videos into a neat list. i use these while i study, and they also help me get to sleep. since i cannot do anything without some sort of background noise on, they are a lifesaver for me; they’re also great for daydreaming purposes. if you have any that you like, please share!

to relax after a long study session or before bed time: fruit tea, chamomile tea. Get yourself some honey if you like.
when you want to feel healthy: Any kind of herbal tea, matcha, nettle tea, green tea.
to get a boost of energy: green tea, black tea, white tea or any other variation that contains caffeine. Make sure you make them right or they´ll get bitter.
on a cold winter day: Chai, ginger tea, rooibos tea. Use spices, especially cinnamon.
during summer: barley tea, iced fruit tea, hibiscus tea. Don´t worry about hot tea in summer, it´s actually even better for your body than drinking ice cold drinks.
Get yourself the most visually pleasing cup you can find and go for it. If you like you can sweeten your tea with sugar or honey or add some milk. For green tea never use boiling water (60-80 degree celsius should be fine) and take the teabag out after two or three minutes maximum or it´ll end up being bitter. Figure out what you like best and what works best for your kind of green tea. The quality affects if it gets bitter easily or not.

by Mihály Zichy.
When Bukowski said “We’re all going to die, all of us, what a circus! That alone should make us love each other but it doesn’t. We are terrorized and flattened by trivialities, we are eaten up by nothing.”
“I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you simply, without problems or pride: I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no I or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when I fall asleep your eyes close.”
Pablo Neruda, 100 Love Sonnets

dress up just to study, chew on the caps of your highlighters while you scribble notes in the margins of your books, put your feet up on your desk and drink cinnamon tea with too much sugar, learn calligraphy and write your favorite quotes on pages of old books and tape them to your wall, drink wine and read in the bath and use that bathbomb you keep forgetting is in your cabinet, play your favorite music play classical music play music from the 20s and dance down your hallway just because, call your friends and read aloud like each word is the most important one on the page, see if you can light enough candles to not need to use a lamp and open your window even though it’s cold, go for a walk and see if you can take a turn you haven’t taken before, live life as a challenge of how fun and dramatic a tiny world can be
