Summary:
“Gook’s face looked slightly less wounded in the dim lighting of the living room, but the state of the wipes Tae Joo was using to clean his cuts bore the evidence of the true state he was in. Tae Joo mentally kicked himself for being the cause of a situation that ended up injuring Gook this badly. The cut on the corner of his mouth was especially bad, it was deep and would take time to heal. Tae Joo gently blew air on it hoping to ease the sting of the disinfectant.
He felt like a hypocrite. He was the reason for this whole mess and yet here he was trying to mend the wounds he had caused.”

Bruh I just watched the 3rd and 4th episode with english subs and I really think some people don’t get Taejoo’s character at all… Taejoo be doing all that annoying sh*t (faking injury because he wants Kang Gook to pay him even more attention, teasing him, touching him, making excuses for skinship, trying to make Gook jealous by kissing that girl knowing he’ll be looking through the window) because he’s into Gook and wants to see if Gook cares or feels the same way about him. I feel like even him giving Gook’s number to Hyemi was kind of a “test” for Gook, he tells him “you can date”, however deep down he thinks Gook is going to ignore her or text her twice but in the end he’ll always choose/prioritize Taejoo. That’s why Taejoo is so flabbergasted when Gook really goes out of that caffe to meet his date and Taejoo is just left there mumbling to himself “he really went…” or during the date when Taejoo out of jealousy walks up to their table and says that he thinks they don’t fit each other etc and when Hyemi says that he shouldn’t disturb them, he looks at Gook almost reproachfully like “Tell her sth right now!”. Don’t even get me started on the fact that when Hyemi asked Gook if Taejoo likes him Tae’s face didn’t look suprised, shocked or anything like that, he looked almost like he was impatiently waiting for Gook’s answer. Taejoo is just really trying to push Gook to his absolute limits, see if he can get a reaction out of him and make him do the first move. Gook is pretty emotionless and probably also confuses the hell out of Taejoo when Tae tries to flirt with him or touch him but Kang Gook always pushes him away and tells that he doesn’t like it. I honestly don’t know why people are so confused by his character.

Stop avoiding the subject and tell me. Why’d you do that? You said since we’re doing this for life, no matter what problem is, we have to resolve all of them. If we talk about this, we can’t do this for life.
Where Your Eyes Linger Season 1, Episode 6
Hug me.
I do feel however that Guk is ashamed, not because of homophobia, but because out of all the people the one that already owns him in body now owns his heart too??? The inner turmoil of Guk must be fucking horrifying.
Related to that actually, I’ve seen some people dismiss the things that Guk said because Tae Joo himself tries to dismiss them as senseless cruelty, but I don’t believe that. I do think everything Guk said has weighed heavily on Guk’s mind, the mom commentary, the way Tae Joo holds on to him for dear life because he clearly is lonely so he indeed is dependent while Guk craves freedom, the fact that he was happy when Tae Joo left for Japan must be partly true if not all the way because it meant for a moment Guk’s life belonged to him and him only and not the whims of a spoiled boy and his rich creepy abusive daddy, and so much resentment for being considered no more than a shield even if Tae Joo thinks of him as more and not just a glorified servant, that’s all he can be under their current situation, and after 15 years what kind of morale has Guk for the future if its not his own, he can love Tae Joo but at what cost to himself…
All that must run through Guk’s mind because he understands that Tae Joo doesn’t quite get the kind of power he has over Guk, but he still is gentle and reassuring to him, but Tae Joo chose to kept crossing the line and Guk had to stop him, he had to, he has breaking him apart. Honestly, Tae Joo is blind, so blind to what he does to Guk, the depth of what he does to him, and some of it he doesn’t know but the rest he should be able to figure it out if he truly means to love Guk, because he’s not seeing him.
Bottom line, Tae Joo does not see Guk, all he sees is an idea of who Guk should be, nobody deserves that, nobody fucking deserves to be reduced to a desire, and Guk is quite conscious about it. And after whatever happened to Tae Joo, good lord wtf was that btw, I hope they have a frank conversation about what it means that Guk is basically owned by Tae Joo, what it means that Guk doesn’t have a life of his own.
Anyway, thank you for coming to my Ted talk.
Edit: I’ve just been told that g**k is a racial slur against east/south asian people so with that in mind I’m gonna start using Guk instead of the other spelling from now on.
I like you.

bonus:
Gook always had a crush on Tae Joo but when he realized Tae Joo might reciprocate those feelings Gook pushed him away. It makes sense because Gook made himself believe that Tae Joo's feelings for him were misplaced feelings of loneliness and parenteral love.
Tae Joo realized his feeling once he saw Gook slipping away. Once he saw that Gook could potentially be happy with someone else. The second Tae Joo starts questioning his own feelings and realizes that they might be romantic he wants to talk it out. He wants to figure it out because he believes that Gook feels the same way.
The whole confession/breakup scene is basically Tae Joo confessing his feelings for Gook and wanting to figure everything out while Gook does the breaking up because he doesn't believe that Tae Joo's feelings are 100% romantic.
There's also the whole thing of Gook seeing their relationship as a "master/servant" thing where as Tae Joo saw it as more of a friendship.

I think we're just going to have to be secretly in love with each other and leave it at that.
