I'm not sure why I want to talk about this so much but I DO so I'm gonna.

Saw Robocop the other night, immediately understood why it flopped but holy crap I really enjoyed it ok?? I know most people are basically disgusted by remakes out of some sense of nostalgia, and I don't care at all, usually when you go back and watch an old thing its often Not That Great (and the nostalgia critic has made a whole Thing out of this phenomenon). I didn't hate the Total Recall remake either, because I honestly feel if a story or premise is interesting there's nothing wrong with telling it again in a new way. And I think it's especially fine to do with Sci/Fi because by its very nature the genre has to constantly be updated. And so Robocop was surprisingly political?? With the heavyhanded commentary on drone use and big business manipulating our lawmakers and questions about artificial intelligence and free will and Evil Steve Jobs Michael Keaton and Samuel L. Jackson O'Reilly lol! Dammit I just feel the need to defend it because these are all things that make it good relevant sci/fi and are definitely the same things making the movie a flop. And of course I love robots and cyborgs and Gary Oldman so its no surprise I fucking loved this movie ok. ROBOCOP.

Also saw the Lego Movie and it was seriously the best thing in the entire world. I geeked out hardest over all the explosions/fire/water/smoke being made of legos and the big fingerprint on Emmet's torso. And the plot was really impressively solid (President Business was the BEST) and so so so good seriously go see this movie.

I dug into my hoard of cheap wigs and cheap kanekalon for styling practice and I'm pretty happy with the result. It definitely confirmed in my mind the value of starting with higher quality wig and hair fiber though! The black fiber absolutely refused to hold a curl. I want to try another fluffy shoujo style again soon. Its very tedious work, I tied in about 3 packs of extra long jumbo braid, but also calming, so its been the only type of crafting I've been able to manage lately. Been slowly stumbling my way out of a 6month+ funk due to cross country move and difficulty adjusting despite having moved a gazillion times in my life... I think Im pretty good at moving but that doesn't mean its actually easy :\ I'm doing much better but better =/= good. This drawing is old!  I feel like sharing it cos I still love it and is stupidly still one of my favorite portraits I've ever done, because real people are so firetrucking hard to draw. Hng. Plus Bob and Harry (from the Dresden Files) made the most adorable odd couple on tv (more than the actual original one /blasphemy). I'm a horrible person who actually preferred the tv show to the books, even though I love both, but honestly I think Paul Blackthorne's Harry is so much more likeable and it just took me FOREVER to get over book Harry's long black trenchcoat, being one of the things that makes it really impossible for me to like urban fantasy very much LOL

Plus I mean HELLO Terrence Mann, the tv writers giving Bob an awesome human backstory, making him fussy and English, FTW. Also since I'm already opening myself up for some flames I might as well add that Jim Butcher's potrayal of female characters is kind of... gross. THERE I SAID IT

I'm the flakiest artist to ever flake uuuugh. Sitting on a bunch of half-inked or half-colored works-OHNOsomethingelseIwannadrawimmediatelyONTOTHEPILEWITHYOU- will I finish?? Ever?? WE JUST DON'T KNOW.

I love worldbuilding wednesday <3 First of all I LOVE your fauns- I hadn't seen any until you posted that picture of Megla. She makes me happy. Anyway, to the question. How do you go through developing overall? I know some people start with one race and then work outwards, while some start with like landscape then go down to nations and races and fine details. Also, what's your favorite part about worldbuilding?

For me worldbuilding has always been an extension of creating characters. The design usually comes with all you need to know about where they come from, so for me its always an exercise in extrapolating. Species and biology of character- are they fantastical in a magical/fantasy kind of way? A monstery/occult way or alien way, etc? Are they a robot (or a person turned into a robot which makes things extra interesting cos I love a good existential crisis)? Climate and technology level of society as indicated by clothing and/or accessories...

My favorite bits to work on are probably magic systems and politics, I don't even try but I suppose I am obsessed with politics at a level that it sneaks in to every story I have even when I don't intend for it to, so uh, I go with it XD

Worldbuilding Wednesday

I'd like to keep this going as often as possible. Especially lately because drawing has been... well. What I've been doing looks like the activity of drawing, but the results look like I shoved my pen up my nose and repeatedly slammed my face against the pages. Ngh. ANYWAY here are past ww posts for perusal, maybe it'll spark some interest.
