Punctuating Dialogue

➸ “This is a sentence.”

➸ “This is a sentence with a dialogue tag at the end,” she said.

➸ “This,” he said, “is a sentence split by a dialogue tag.”

➸ “This is a sentence,” she said. “This is a new sentence. New sentences are capitalized.”

➸ “This is a sentence followed by an action.” He stood. “They are separate sentences because he did not speak by standing.”

➸ She said, “Use a comma to introduce dialogue. The quote is capitalized when the dialogue tag is at the beginning.”

➸ “Use a comma when a dialogue tag follows a quote,” he said.

“Unless there is a question mark?” she asked.

“Or an exclamation point!” he answered. “The dialogue tag still remains uncapitalized because it’s not truly the end of the sentence.”

➸ “Periods and commas should be inside closing quotations.”

➸ “Hey!” she shouted, “Sometimes exclamation points are inside quotations.”

However, if it’s not dialogue exclamation points can ask be “outside”!

➸ “Does this apply to question marks too?” he asked.

If it’s not dialogue, can question marks be “outside”? (Yes, they can.)

➸ “This applies to dashes too. Inside quotations, dashes typically express—“

“Interruption” — but there are situations dashes may be outside.

➸ “You’ll notice that exclamation marks, question marks, and dashes do not have a comma after them. Ellipses don’t have a comma after them either…” she said.

➸ “My teacher said, ‘Use single quotation marks when quoting within dialogue.’”

➸ “Use paragraph breaks to indicate a new speaker,” he said.

“The readers will know it’s someone else speaking.”

Mc was trained/raised under Kouyou Ozaki from the Port Mafia. They have an ability called My Gamble, it allows them to control probability.

Mc doesn't believe in love, hope or dreams. As they are what Kouyou told them would only get in the way of work and leave someone dead or heartbroken, so they didn't exist. But ever since they were transported to a new world why do they feel hope.

"One day you could fall in love," was nothing they have ever been told before. Until they got close to a small student at the school, Lilia Vanrouge.

"Hope and love don't exists," Yuu responded with a cold tone. "They only get in the way of what really needs to be done."

"And you believe that because?"

"That's what my sister always told me, she has been there for me when no one else was."

"Have you tried letting people in, maybe that's the real problem."

"Are you saying I trust her word more then I trust my own experiences?"

"That is what I could be saying if you took it that way."

"You really can't give a straight answer."

"What's your ability called again?"

"My gamble it allows me to change probability."

"Let's play a game, if I can make you fall in love in a week you don't go back but if you don't fall in love with me your sister is right."

"You know I can use my ability right."

"I know but I can tell you aren't going to use it."

"You have a deal."
