Lucas winces as Becca pushes.
"If I say it barely hurts will you let me go?"
He'd stumbled in from the storm, trying to do his job and help as many stragglers that were still caught in the storm as possible.
Now he's sitting here, dripping wet and trying to get back out there as soon as Becca says he can. If she says he can.

everything was too sudden for becca to truly understand. distractions took her attention before she could think; the hurried conversations, the rush of movement, the sudden noise of a hard rainfall on the roof and windows. even her own voice didn't sound right. it felt strained and warbled in her throat when she spoke, still caught by surprise just as she was getting the hang of this place. but her hands are steady on the injured ankle while she feels for irregularities underneath. "it's not a break or tear- that's good. now, i'm going to push on your foot and you let me know when it hurts too much."
Lucas slumps into the chair, a frustrated growl escaping him.
"Fuck, Becca! I can't just... fuck!"
He puts his face in his hands and tries not to cry from his frustration. So many people could be out there; Jim, Ana, Rae, even people who don't know about the creatures. Newcomers wander in all the time. Not in as big as a group as recently but still.
"Will it at least be okay in the morning? If the storm let's up by then, I have to be able to help."
she knows he's eager to leave and lets him stand, holding her hands out for support. but as quickly as he stood, he's back in the seat again. "well, that proves it. a sprain like that- if not properly healed- will weaken your ankle, forever." becca didn't like having to be dramatic with patients, but sometimes people just don't want to accept the severity without it.
"a job you can't do right now, and if you try to push through it, you won't be able to do it right ever again." she almost wants to push him over and make sure he stays seated for good, but keeps her hands out anyway when it looks like he wants to try again. "just sit your ass down, lucas. don't be an idiot."

Adrien is flush with adrenaline and some alcohol too. He finds a quieter area of the house to catch his breath and chug some water.
He almost jumps in surprise but then grins when he finds Erin being chill.
"Hey! I was wondering if I'd see you tonight. How's the fan working out for you?"
He slumps on the couch next to her, smiling like an excited though sleepy puppy.

Lucas crouches at the edge of the woods, examining what could be tracks. Or could be nothing. He hates how smart the creatures are. They could've left this behind just to toy with him.
He hears rustling from footsteps behind him, and he doesn't bother looking up.
"The hunting woods are six miles that way," he says, pointing his left hand. "Signs and caution tape everywhere. You can't miss them."
| Rafael Silva & he/him | Congratulations, LUCAS MIRANDA survived another night. The town would certainly feel less safe without a them close by. Not to mention, we can’t lose another TOWNSHIP SHERIFF, plus they’re only 30 years old. Crazy to think, it’s been 7 YEARS since their arrival, though in a place like Oblitus it can feel much longer. Good thing they’re staying at the RESIDENTIAL AREA. Almost like it happened yesterday, they still remember LOS ANGELES, and where they came from. It’s no secret, they were ON A HUNTING TRIP WITH HIS BROTHER, CARLOS when they came across the tree, and is still keeping them up at night. Truth be told, they’re awfully CHARMING and PARANOID, but they’ve survived this long. Well, it’s almost day light again, maybe they’ll play SI SUPIERAS by PRINCE ROYCE this time. Welcome to another night in Oblitus, please don’t open the doors. (caye, 27, he/him, PST) no triggers
-what is their biggest regret since arriving in town?
That he hasn't found a way to avenge his brother and get rid of the creatures. At least then being trapped wouldn't be a living hell. At least then he'd feel more useful as a sheriff.
At least then he could focus on finding a way back to his parents and tell them what happened to Carlos and give them all closure.
- describe your character’s first day/night in town?
He and Carlos arrived in the early hours of the morning, two hours before sunrise. They'd gotten ambushed by the creatures and the only reason Lucas is alive is because Carlos sacrificed himself while Lucas tried to find them shelter.
After the shock wore off, he was taken to the Township Hall by the kind people that gave him shelter.
He asked so many questions, the answers to a lot of them being "We don't know." That frustrates him even more than he was. If his mama hadn't raised him to think and care about the community, he'd have become a hermit. But that wouldn't help anyone. That wouldn't get him his chance to avenge Carlos.
So he takes a residential home and offers to do any and every job that just needs help getting done.

Biography
(cw: cancer, sibling death)
Lucas was born a mama's boy and was always proud about it. His mom, Maria, instilled so many of his loves the things he cherishes, especially being part of and giving back to his community.
That's not to say his father, Andre, didn't have influence on his life. He also shows the importance of helping his community but also taking time for family. He takes Lucas and his little brother Carlos on hunting trips and share the importance of nature.
Andre developed lung cancer and was in and out of the hospital through out Lucas's life, which made Lucas hate hospitals.
In fact, the reason Andre wasn't on the hunting trip with Lucas and Carlos when they found the tree was because he was in the hospital but insisted they go without him.
When they arrived in Oblitus was the worse night of Lucas's life.
He lost his family in many ways. Cut off from his parents, and watching his brother day, giving him a chance to escape.
Lucas had been working toward being a sheriff so after doing his dues for the first year in Oblitus, he quickly worked his way to sheriff rank. And now 7 years after first coming to town, he's still no closer to getting rid of the monsters or finding a way out. He doesn't even know if his dad is still alive. He doesn't know if his mother survived losing her sons.
He will find his answers.
"Rae-rae," Lucas says, exasperated, the old pet name slipping out. He follows Rae down the hall, ready to softly berate him about taking care of himself first and foremost.
It's hypocritical, he knows, but it's easier to want other people to be selfish than yourself.
But before he can make any challenge or tirades about Rae's well-being, he hears Rae's sob and curse.
Lucas immediately steps around and pulls Rae's body against his own. His arms hold him tight, trying to provide a physical anchor. Tears start spilling out of his own eyes, sharing Rae's pain, fear, heartbreak, despair.
"I know," he whispers. "You need actual rest. You can't force yourself to do this for hours."
cruel was putting it lightly, rae thought to himself; they were pure evil. he would never forget his first night, the sound of his parents tapping on the window, the glimpse he caught of their un-aged faces, and his mother's voice calling to him in their native tongue.
“i — ” he began, but the sound of his own voice felt foreign. he swallowed hard, forcing the memories back into the shadows where they belonged. “i'll take a break, but i can’t leave, lucas. there’s too much to do.” rae's fingers grip on the cart tightened, knuckles turning an alarming shade of white.
as they reached the door leading to the storage room, something inside him snapped. a sob broke free from his lips — a choked sound that echoed in the hallway. he stopped, his hands gripping the cart's edge tightly as if it could anchor him to reality. “fuck.” his voice was raw, a mixture of despair and anger as he buried his face in his hands. the calm facade he had fought so hard to maintain crumbled instantly.
Lucas laughs.
"Fine, fine."
He adjusts to match Muz's positioning. He looks up at the clear sky as he decides what thoughts to share.
"Well, to be honest, I'm trying not to freak the fuck out over the storm and yeah, it's been making it hard to sleep. Not to mention, I keep thinking I hear rain for some reason."
'Scavenger, me. Next penny I find, it's going in your pocket.' Muz stretches out his legs in front of him, giving his boots a little scuff against the gravel, leaning back on the bench. 'Go on, you gotta spill now. Entertain me,' he says, tilting his head as if he’s settling in for a story, eyes brightening a little. 'Need an advance before I go scrounging for pennies.'

Lucas steps into Cameron's office with a stack of folders.
"Okay, I have the updated census, the current inventories from every council service, building damages organized by priority needs, and a rationing plan you, Ana, and Santi need to look over."
He places the folders down one at a time, making sure he's got the right ones. Then he steps back, hooking his thumbs on his belt as he waits for her next instructions.
Lucas quietly snorts.
"I'd prefer less existential conversation. I can save that until night time."
He puts his coffee cup down, then stretches out long from the bench, legs out, ass barely hanging on the edge, and head back with his hands laced behind it.
"Nothing like it," he echoes. "So what made you actually sit somewhere longer than five minutes?"
'Got your back, man. Ten minutes to sundown I'll give you a poke in the rib.' Muz leans back, crossing his arms and shoots Lucas a lazy grin. 'Just enough time to get into some deep, existential conversation going before the monsters come out, yeah?' There's a certain comfort in this—the quiet, Lucas’s half-asleep presence next to him, and understanding between them that they didn’t have to say too much, just something. 'Nothing like a power nap with a sunset alarm.'
"No, no, don't apologize."
Adrien looks around and grabs a pencil and some scrap paper. He draws a crude but clear image of windmills on top of a building.
"I figured if we built them on top of tall major buildings, we would have less stress of the monsters trying things. Plus, if we’re strategic with which buildings, we could use those as reliable shelters in emergency situations."
He looks back up to her.
"What were you thinking? Because we'd still need water. Plus, you never know for extreme situations."
"I thought about that too, maybe using water, but that would require digging-" she said not finishing that thought. "Or we could try and use waste, too gross though for my taste- or induce, which would require a lot of...Sorry I did it again," she said standing up from where she was on the floor.
"Wanna show me what you've got in your head."
