Lucas laughs.
"Fine, fine."
He adjusts to match Muz's positioning. He looks up at the clear sky as he decides what thoughts to share.
"Well, to be honest, I'm trying not to freak the fuck out over the storm and yeah, it's been making it hard to sleep. Not to mention, I keep thinking I hear rain for some reason."
'Scavenger, me. Next penny I find, it's going in your pocket.' Muz stretches out his legs in front of him, giving his boots a little scuff against the gravel, leaning back on the bench. 'Go on, you gotta spill now. Entertain me,' he says, tilting his head as if he’s settling in for a story, eyes brightening a little. 'Need an advance before I go scrounging for pennies.'
The darkness creeps in the air, a sensation of impeding doom following the massacre that rolled in with the storm. There is a growing need now amongst the residents of Oblitus, a need for hope, for ease, for laughter. And what better way to aspire for all, than to attend the annual Halloween party at Colony House. And while the party will, no doubt, be different this year, with more new faces, louder atmosphere to drown out the screeches from the outside, it is sure to bring on some much needed relief. So take out your finest garments, your tastiest treats and head over to Colony House before the night rolls in. Oh and do make sure not to open the door for any trick-or-treaters....for you might just end up a treat.
OOC: Welcome to our second plot drop and the most fun party Oblitus can get!
Note to all: Halloween Party is an old tradition dating back for as long as the residents can remember. Every year, the whole town gathers at the Colony House to enjoy the night of music, games and laughter. It is a tradition reserved to mock the town and its many horrors, while also ensuring everyone is safe and sound and most importantly -- not alone. During this night, the monsters that usually roam the town are unable to assume their human form, so they are seen around in their real form, and their powers of allure and persuasion are at an all-time-high. This is why, in preparation for the party, the windows are blacked out entirely, and residents are forbidden from peaking through.
Our Halloween event will be taking place from Friday, November 1st (6pm EST) through to following Tuesday, November 5th.
We encourage everyone to put their current threads on pause during the event!

Lucas let's her talk, seeing what kind of mood or topic she'll settle on.
"I'm not really in the mood for a lot of company," he says. "Just company. Plus I'm hungry."
It is hard to deal with so much loss all the time. He knows theoretically that people die all the time. But seeing it on a daily basis is a different story.
He gives her an encouraging smile when she talks about Charlie and El.
"Yeah, I checked up on El earlier. They seem to be doing okay, but I get it. If Rae or Ana got hurt like that..."
He let's the silence finish the sentence for him.
"Anyway, uh, my first day was rough. Kind of like what these new people had to deal with, I guess. My brother and I rolled in before sunrise, and we were getting chased. He managed to hold them off from me while somebody let me inside their house."
He blinks away the tears threatening to spill. Thinking about Carlos always made him cry.
"Colony house has plenty of company, if that's your vibe. I don't know, it gets little loud there for me sometimes. Don't get me wrong I like...I like the noise it's just...after last night..." she lets her words trail off there, she was certain he'd know what that meant. "Uh, I got lost in work, lots of cooking and -- onions cover up for the crying. Lost a lot of good people last night, I just...it's hard isn't it? Having to deal with loss...all the fucking time..." lighting another cigarette she'll smile at the question, almost forcing herself in an attempt to feel better, to be better company. "New people are cool. There's this girl Charlie I think...I think she and I will be good friends. El got hurt though, which...it's kind of all I can think about." a small shrug passes her shoulder. "You? You never told me what your first time was like...arriving here?"
"Of course," Lucas says, kissing the top of Rae's head. "You go clean up."
He slowly let's go once Rae's grip loosens then turns to push the cart. The door creaks open and he steps into the dimly lit storage space. They manage to make it cold enough that it doesn't smell like hot rotting flesh. Just regular dead bodies. He's spent enough time in here around Rae that it doesn't bother him as much anymore.
He slides the cart in place then looks around. The blanket covering Kina has slipped off her face so Lucas puts it back. Then he slides this body next to hers.
He flips the light as he leaves, hurrying back into the examination room. He steps up next to Rae at the sink and washes his hands.
"Ready?"
rae's sobs racked his body, a release of the tension he had been holding for so long. too long. with anyone else he might have felt exposed, but he didn't feel that with lucas. his arms found his way around him, holding on like rae would disappear if he let go. stubbornness had been lost, this time he nodded against luc's shoulder.
"we — we can go. can you just put the cart inside?" he asked, voice barely above a whisper. "she’s in there. i can't look...not again." could he stomach it? absolutely. but that didn't stop the pain. rae couldn't detach himself from all feelings like he did with the other bodies.

Lucas stands to the side, watching as the party gets started. They've had an influx of young people, and it's so nice seeing them be happy and young.
He'd been around their ages when he came here. It's almost like he gets to feel young again through them.
He sighs and shakes his head. He's not old yet. He can still have fun.
He finds Ana and sidles up to her.
"Please tell me that we can fuck around and be dumb tonight," he says with a chuckle. "All these young people are making me feel older than I actually am."
He briefly considers putting her into a headlock just to show how easy it would be to catch her, but he's honestly too tired to put in the effort. And she's right about the rationing. He's probably just using it as an excuse to avoid his personal problems rattling in his head right now.
"By that logic, we all worry too much," he replies. "It's our jobs to worry too much. So the people who can't do our jobs don't have to."
He sees and even feels the edge in her smile.
"This was an unexpected event. By all accounts, they broke the rules we thought were in place."
He leans against a table, crossing his arms to show he's in serious mode now. Not ready for the emotional talk quite yet. At least not until Ana is.
Anastasia lets out a quiet huff, the corners of her mouth twitching into a smirk. "A nap sounds nice, but you’d have to catch me first." She rolls her neck, feeling the tension stretch and settle, then flicks her gaze to the horizon as if sleep is a luxury meant for someone else.
"I’ll sleep when things stop breaking." She exhales through her nose, the humor slipping just slightly. "Besides, if you lock me up, who’s gonna keep you from rationing those supplies into oblivion?"
Her smile softens, but there’s an edge to it—one Lucas would recognize instantly. "I’m fine, Lu. You worry too much." But they both know that’s not exactly true. Not anymore.
"Nice to meet you," Adrien says with a smile and shaking Noah's hand. "El sent me over to check on things for them."
Adam shrugs and giggles.
"I guess it could be worse. Could definitely be better but could be worse."
Adrien walks in and looks around. There's a car already up on the lift. He walks up and studies what's going on under.
"This your project or El's?"
"Easy there!" Noah smiled, raising his hands in a 'no harm done' gesture. "Didn't mean to give you a heart attack."
He eyed the newcomer for a moment , giving him a friendly smile. "Noah Adler. Mechanic. Well -" He shrugged his shoulders. "I fix things, anyway." He stepped forward, offering a handshake, a big of oil still smudged on his hand from earlier.
"So you're new in town... I don't know whether to say welcome or apologise," he laughed. He hadn't been here long himself, so who was he really to say anyway. "Welcome, I guess." he tipped an imaginary hat.
Lucas considers this. He's been in a lot of the woods around town but hasn't come across a tree like that. Of course, that's not at all surprising. Still, it has him thinking.
"Okay," he says, focusing back on Elm. "That's good. Was there anything else?"
He gives her a small smile.
ELM CONSIDERS THE QUESTION FOR A MOMENT BEFORE SHRUGGING . " it's the only thing i remember ." elm wonders if that's enough to make it notable . there's another beat of thought where their head tilts before they're adding a, " there was a moon over it ." their brows furrow a bit . " it was full and ..." a thoughtful pause before elm is making a round gesture with their hands . " the tree was by itself . in a circle, like this ."
Lucas let's out a small wet laugh.
"That's actually really comforting."
He wipes his face and stands up straight. He turns to face the man.
"I'm Lucas," he says, holding out a hand. "One of the sheriff's. You're Hollis right?"
The mention of the blood trail sends a chill down Hollis' spine, but he tries not to let it show. Instead, he steps a little closer, careful not to get too close, but enough to feel present. "I'm sorry," he murmurs.
"I don't think...you ever really get to say goodbye. Not in a way that feels right, anyway." His gaze drifts back to the grave. "But...maybe that means they're still here, with you. Somehow."
It wasn't exactly comforting, but, it was the only thing he could think to offer. The same uncertain, fragile connection that he clung to himself.
