I Needed This Today.  Thank You

I needed this today.  Thank you

Shoutout to non binary Jews!!

Whether you wear tefillin, a kippah, a tallit, anything else or none of it, you are valid. Your observance of Judaism does not invalidate your gender.

Shoutout to non binary Jews who are part of a super accepting synagogue!

Shoutout to non binary Jews who are part of a queerphobic synagogue!

Shoutout to non binary Jews who aren’t part of a synagogue!

Shoutout to non binary Jews who wear gendered religious items!

Shoutout to non binary Jews who want to wear gendered religious items but can’t!

Shoutout to non binary Jews who wear gendered religious items but don’t really want to!

Shoutout to non binary Jews who don’t wear gendered religious items!

Shoutout to non binary Jews who are only out in jewish spaces!

Shoutout to non binary Jews who are nervous about coming out in jewish spaces!

Shoutout to non binary Jews whose coming out didn’t go well in a jewish space!

Shoutout to non binary Jews whose coming out went really well in jewish spaces!

Shoutout to non binary Jews who aren’t sure where their identity fits into their Judaism!

Shoutout to non binary Jews whose identity is tied to their Judaism!

Shoutout to non binary Jews who feel more distant from Judaism because of their identity.

Shoutout to non binary Jews who feel closer to Judaism because of their identity.

Shoutout to all non binary Jews, whether you fit into any of these or not. Navigating Judaism and being non binary is complicated, and I’m so happy that you are part of my community!

So you might have seen this image going around the internet.

image

[ID: A high school hallway crammed with shoulder-to-shoulder teenagers, about three of whom are wearing masks. End ID.]

This is a high school in my area. This was the first day back. This picture, taken by a student, went viral (ha), and the superintendent was more or less forced to make a statement. It’s long and it’s a lot of bullshit but here’s the big stupid part.

image

“One area where we have received a good deal of feedback is mask use in our schools. Wearing a mask is a personal choice and there is no practical way to enforce a mandate to wear them. What we will do is continue to strongly encourage all students and staff to wear masks.”

If I have to explain to you the staggering level of bullshit in this statement, then you’ve never been an AFAB person in high school. Tank top? Sent home. Jeans too tight? Home. Collarbones showing? Home. Never mind the application of out-of-school suspension, which is its own kind of bullshit that we’re not here to discuss today. If you can send someone home for showing too much ankle you can send them home for not wearing a mask.

I’ve seen pushback against him on Twitter but they’ve already proven they don’t give a shit what we think, or care about the safety of the students OR staff. Only that things look like they’ve gone back to normal.

So it’d be a real shame if people from all over blew up their phones at 770-443-8000 or used faxzero.com to send 5 free faxes per day to 770-443-8089 making known their concerns about this anti-response to a massive public health risk. Make it a national issue and maybe shame our government into acting like they’ve got a single brain cell between them. It’d just be real upsetting. I’m just saying.

Yemen is facing the worlds largest hunger crisis and the world is too quiet.

And it’s the children that pay the highest price. An estimated 85,000 children have lost their lives to extreme starvation alone. Every 10 minutes, a child under 5 dies of preventable causes in Yemen. When choosing what charities or goals you want to support during the last few days of Ramadan, I urge you to keep the children of Yemen in mind. And if you’re not celebrating Ramadan, or are not religious.. you’re still human.

These are a few of charities that I know of that you can donate to:

https://www.savethechildren.org.uk/how-you-can-help/emergencies/yemen-crisis?

https://www.muslimglobalrelief.org/yemen-appeal (100% donation policy)

https://oxfamapps.org.uk/yemen

https://www.dec.org.uk/appeal/yemen-crisis-appeal

http://sharethemeal.org

Remember, it’s the smallest donations that build up or even just rebloging/sharing would help. May Allah smile upon us all, and relieve the children of this world of their heartache.

Okay Bernie stans.

I need you all to prepare yourselves to vote for Biden in November.

I’m not happy about it either.  I wanted Elizabeth Warren to destroy Trump on the debate floor.  I wanted to watch her shatter the glass ceiling.  I wanted student loan forgiveness, Medicare for All, and refugee and immigrant protections.

But I’m not going to get that.  So I am going all in for Biden.

This can no longer be a matter of “well if I don’t get my way THEN I’M NOT VOTING”.  I’d hoped you all learned your lessons four years ago, but from what I’ve seen on social media, that’s not been the case.  Biden is not ideal but he is better than the alternative.  He is a Democrat who will continue Obama’s legacy.  And you have a shot in hell of getting progressive movements like Medicare for All under a blue majority Congress; we do not have that under Trump.

Biden is more willing to listen to the progressive factions of the Democrat party than Trump is.  We will get shit done under him.

We cannot survive a second term of Trump.  I need you all to hold your noses, put on your big girl pants, and deal with it.  Prepare to vote for Biden.

When my grandpa died, we cleaned out the house so my Gram could move into a senior living place.  You know what we found?  A coconut.  In the attic.  At least twenty years old (I forget when mom told me they went on a vacation where they would have obtained a coconut).  We still talk about it.

It’s strange getting over suicidal thoughts because your mind is like “hey if you do this, you could easily kill yourself” and then you’re like “oh cool...wait, I don’t want to die!”
