My adaptation of the God of Arepo short story, which was originally up at ShortBox Comics Fair for charity. You can get a copy of the DRM-free ebook here for free - and I'd encourage you to donate to Mighty Writers or The Ministry of Stories in exchange.

Again it's an honour to be drawing one of my favourite short stories ever. Thank you so much for the original authors for creating this story; and for everyone who bought a copy and donated to the above non-profits.

listen up chucklefucks, i just gotta say. I'm not defending zir, but I'm sad zie deactivated. Like, i get that trauma lasts a long time and the good stuff is maybe easy to forget?? so maybe it's just like that. And my beloved mutual @/pompeyspuppygirl made a post about zir clout chasing behavior, which is pretty shitty behavior if it's true (and if we're canceling someone it had better be pretty severe). anyways now that zie's gone pompeyspuppygirl said it was okay to make this post (again, thanks ppg everyone go follow her --really everyone in this whole drama is worth a follow)

ANYways yeah zie was my mutual and like, reblogged a lot my smaller posts. (that isn't to discredit what my mutual pompeyspuppygirl is saying about zie clout chasing ofc). AND idk zie was always reblogging art from new and undiscovered artists and reblogging donation posts (which if you don't know is really bad if you're trying to clout chase...) (again, though, ppg is my mutual i believe her.) and like, remember on valentines day i tried to blaze zir posts and zie told me to stop because zie didn't want the posts to go viral? (but again ppg is my mutual and has a lot of proof in the Google doc I'm not trying to disprove that I'm just saying what else I know)

Idk, like i feel like a lot of people loved zir's blog a while back, bc like zie DID make some good posts?? So idk why everybody's acting like they aren't even a little bit sad.,. like ngl this feels like maybe all the reasonable people left to Twitter and all the Twitter refugees who love drama came here??? shdfhhdhdhdhdh haha but idk...look idk, i just, julie i do miss you. idk. more thoughts later sorry I'm getting worked up shshs

decolonizepalestine.com is an easy to navigate website run by two palestinians which breaks down common myths about palestine and provides a reading list organized by a wide variety of categories ranging from history and culture to media and censorship. it’s a good starting point to use if you want to learn more about the modern day situation in palestine and understand the truth behind myths that have been perpetuated about israel’s occupation of palestine.

FEMA is doing an emergency alert test on all TVs, radios, and cell phones on October 4, 2023, at approximately 2:20pm ET.

If you live in the US and you have a phone you need to keep secret for any reason, make sure that it is turned off at this time.

Yes, I'm doing this months in advance, and yes, my blog has very little reach, but I figure better to post about it more than less.

Please reblog and add better tags than mine, I'm bad at tags.

Seattle Public Library is doing this awesome program called Books Unbanned that allows teens and young adults (ages 13-26) access to their collection of e-books and e-audiobooks from anywhere in the USA. All you need to do is fill out a simple form and you get their Books Unbanned card. Please share this information far and wide. I know they're not the only ones to have done this, but the more the merrier!

Here you go!

I’m trying to find that XKCD comic with the two geologists who are like “we have to remember the average layperson only knows formulas for three or four basic schists and quartzes” and I cannot.

Anyone have it where you can lay hands on it?

Love how tumblr has its own folk stories. Yeah the God of Arepo we’ve all heard the story and we all still cry about it. Yeah that one about the woman locked up for centuries finally getting free. That one about the witch who would marry anyone who could get her house key from her cat and it’s revealed she IS the cat after the narrator befriends the cat.

There are probably around 200 kids in my grade at my high school, and I don't really know eveyrone, but I'd estimate that between 10 and 15 of us are out as trans and/or nonbinary (5-8% of the grade). I've also noticed that the younger grades have more queer kids. (like, there are more queer freshman than sophomores, for example).

Do high school kids these days just have trans classmates now. Like I keep seeing zoomer posts casually referring to it. Fucking wild if true.

Kinda a shanty, but "The Chemical Worker's Song (Process Man)" "Feed the Machine" also comes to mind, but any Poor Man's Poison could work

Do you have any recommendations for work songs/folk songs regarding mining? Or just work songs in general? My housemate is writing a fantasy novel set partly in an industrial town and a mine and I'm putting together a playlist of related music. I have "I Can Hew" by Mawkin and "Tell God and the Devil" by Solas, and not-a-work-song-but-still-fun steampunk (emphasis on punk) "Miner" by The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing, but 3 songs does not a playlist make!

YES!

Mining specifically: 16 Tons, Dark As A Dungeon, Loading Coal, Coal Miner's Blues, The Blackleg Miner, The Testimony of Patience Kershaw, The Coal-owner and the Pitman's wife, The Collier's Rant

Work songs (using what I think is the definition you're using): Worker's Song, Poverty Knock, Murphy and the Bricks (humerous), The ICI Song, The Hand-Loom Weaver's Lament

Actual Sea Shanties (ie. work songs on boats as opposed to just songs about sailing, separate in case you don't want these): Old Maui, South Australia, High Barbary, Randy Dandy Oh, Haul Away Joe

can't expect to be able to use bathrooms in public

Hear me out: I think the trans and disabled communities should be bffs (like the ace and bi communities are). Not only are there a lot of people who are both, but consider our shared experiences:

The grand and noble tradition of lying to doctors to get semi-adequate medical care.

"It's all in your head."

Being told we're faking it to get those sweet, sweet benefits of being oppressed and having unusually high rates of poverty.

People asking us invasive personal questions within 0.2 seconds of meeting us.

Being told that we're not REALLY trans/disabled because we don't fit into preconceived notions of what we should look like.

Being held to ridiculously high standards of appropriate behavior/attire/language because if our whole lives don't revolve around being the perfect cripple/performing gender to the max, we are either faking or somehow being bad representation of ourselves.

Shocking people by actually being happy with our bodies and celebrating them.

Also shocking people by expressing negative feelings about our bodies.

Getting frustrated when people act like we're oppressing them for wanting to exist comfortably in public.

In short, we have a lot in common re: the shit we put up with, and we should be besties.

xoxo--a disabled

Here are a few more types of conflict!

Here Are A Few More Types Of Conflict!

Image ID below the cut!

(Image ID: a Nine-by-Nine grid labeled "Conflict in Literature". The first column is labeled "Classical" and it has (going top down) a man in a red shirt using a pitchfork to fight animals with red eyes with the caption "Man vs. Nature"; the same man holding a sword fighting another man with a sword and armor with the caption "Man vs. Man"; and the same man shaking his fist at a hand coming down from a cloud with the caption "Man vs. God". The second column is labeled "Modern" and has the man backing away from a crowd that is throwing things at him with the caption "Man vs. Society"; the man walking alone with a bottle and the caption "Man vs. Self"; and the man shaking his fist at the sky again, though this time, there is no cloud/hand, with the caption "Man vs. No God". The third column is labeled "Postmodern" and has the man waving a stick at a row of computers and the caption "Man vs. Technology"; the man walking on wavy ground that appears to have eyes below a sky full of dice with the caption "Man vs. Reality"; and the man sitting on a book shaking his fist at a hand holding a pen coming from the sky, captioned "Man vs. Author". Below the lower-right box ("Man vs. Author") there is the name of the author of the comic "Grant Snider".

Or, what if, this and when something becomes public domain, no parts of it can be copyrighted again. For example (this is a hypothetical example) Barrie's Peter Pan is in Public Domain so anything from that, like Tinkerbell, would also stay public domain and not be copyrighted by Disney (I do not know if Tinkerbell is copyrighted by Disney but she/it probably is) but Disney's original spins on it would still be copyrighted (see the Disney Fairies Series or Pixie Hollow). and if this is how things work, cool! I have not researched copyright law because that is an entire thing

At my old Hebrew school, we made hamantashen at our Purim carnival, and to make clean up easier than having jam everywhere, we often made them with chocolate chips and i think butterscotch?

But my points are 1. that any option of baking chip works well and 2. combine different types of hamantachen filling for many possiblities

The chronicle of the monk Herbert of Reichenau for the year 1021 ends “My brother Werner was born on November 1.“

1021 was not an uneventful year. The emperor began a campaign into Italy. Illustrious abbots died. There was an earthquake. But Herbert took the time to note, at the end of the year, that his brother was born.

Of such acts of tenderness is history made.

A bunch of Google Drive links are about to be broken
Lots of publically accessible Google Drive links are going to be broken and inaccessible in the near future, read why here.

A lot of publicly accessible Google Drive links will no longer be accessible later this year unless their owners opt out of new security enhancements. These enhancements are being brought to Google Drive on September 23rd, 2021, the company announced in a blog post today.

Once this change goes live, Google says that users will need a “resource key” to access a publicly shared link. However, users won’t need an updated link with said resource key appended if they’ve already accessed that file before in the past. As a result of this change, we can imagine that lots of Google Drive links shared online on forums and other sites will no longer work as their owners neglect to update them, leaving them only accessible to the people that have already clicked the links before. This comes after Google also announced similar changes to YouTube’s unlisted videos earlier today.

According to the post made on the Google Workspace blog, this won’t affect all files. Users who have shared a file that is affected by this change will get an email from Google informing them of this change and how to opt out of needing those files from being updated. These emails will be sent out to users starting on July 26th. Google shared a copy of a sample email to show end-users what the message they’ll get will look like. The company doesn’t recommend opting out all files and says that only the files that you want publicly accessible should be opted out. Users have until September 13th to decide if they want the update applied, so if you have no files that are publicly accessible, then you won’t need to do anything.

Oh wow as someone who exclusively uses these charts now I feel intelligent!

dots are slip stitch

circles are chains

pluses (+) are single crochets

upper case t’s (T) are half-double crochets

uppercase t’s with a center line are double crochets

uppercase t’s with two center lines are triple/treble crochets

Here’s a PDF with more but those are the ones that I see most often!  Hope this helps!!!

Fellow Fibernators, I Need HALP!!!

This is a portion of a chart on a pattern I purchased, only realizing after the fact that the instructions are chart-only, not written. I am a written pattern girl to the core. The pattern has a key, of course, but I am nonetheless flummoxed.

The long arcs between the stitches - what ARE they meant to represent?! They aren’t in the key at all. Are they some sort of regular symbol for charted patterns that I don’t know because I’m chart-dumb?
