So, I finally watched seven out of eight episodes of Witcher from Netflix. I seriously couldn't get through it. I get it that people who didn't read the books can like it, but I did red them all and I can say that the show, especially compared to books, is... well, meh. That is probably the most fitting word. Let me tell you why I think it is a complete disaster (Warning! There's some spoilers from show and books!):

1) First of all, the most important thing: the plot. We all know that timeline is totally messed up, I agree. But storyline is too and it really bothers me. I mean it's very chaotic and doesn't have the vibe that original Witcher has. Many things were changed and unfortunatly not for good. Sometimes I had a feeling they changed it just to show how "original" Netflix is. For example the whole thing with Aretuza and Tissaia. Especielly Tissaia. I mean, in books she was very kind and caring. She even comitted suicide after Thanned, when she blamed herself for death of many people (not only sorceresses) despite she couldn't know that her decision would let to that. Second character here is Fringilla. In source material she's not very important character (plus she was often descibed as very similar looking to Yennefer), plus she's Nilfgaardian sorceress, which mean she's on Emhyr's leash, yet in the show she seems quite important for Empire.

2)Geralt. He's different from original and he didn't changed for good. Let's take his relationship with Jaskier as example. In the books he deeply cared for the bard and was glad, maybe a little bit surprised but thankful for the way Jaskier treated him. Most "normal" people treated Geralt as a monster, maybe even something worse. Jaskier was probably first who treated him like human being, with respect. Yet in the show Geralt is the one who treats Jaskier like trash, especially when they met. He even hit him which is, you know, not very Geralt like.

3)Sometimes I have a feeling that Hissrich simply doesn't understand Witcher characters and it's world. For example Foltest or Dudu (the doppler, if he is Dudu, but in books there are no other dopplers). In source material they're one of the most nice and relatable characters. Foltest made mistake for letting his feelings rule him yet was the only monarch who didn't want to take advantage of Ciri, and Dudu just wanted more normal life, he could kill person he stole identity from, yet he didn't do that, knowing yaht Biberveldt can find him and blow his cover. The whole point of Witcher novels is to show that sometimes people are the biggest monsters like Emhyr, Bonhart or Vilgefortz, and so called "monsters" can be more human like mentioned before Dudu or Regis, a vampire. I didn't see any of those lessons in tge show.

Also one more thing: I think there should be more slavic people working on the show. I myself am Polish, and trust me there's a LOT of differences between Polish and American way of perceiving the world. Maybe that's part of why I don't really like the show: it's simply too American for me

nothing is funnier to me than dueling for Josephine’s hand from Lord Ortano’s perspective because he admitted he didn’t know that the Inquisitor and Josephine were serious and thought it was just an affair of circumstance.

like the guy accepted the duel because he thought that the Inquisitor was just trying to get publicity and he was like “oh yeah, we can totally fight. this will really help the both of us in terms of the public eye” and thought it was just gonna be a show fight with trash talking, but nope, turns out the Inquisitor was actually trying to kill him for Josephine and he didn’t learn this until well into the duel

So just to be clear, during Trespasser the Winter Palace elven population consists of:

Briala’s spies, if Briala is still around;

Leliana’s spies;

Qunari spies;

Solas’s spies.

Maker’s breath, it’s no wonder they’re all tripping over one another’s plans.

But more importantly, can we take a moment to think about the following elven servants who undoubtedly exist:

The elf who is really, genuinely not a spy

The elf who is on all four sides at once

Now imagine them having a conversation.

You’re welcome.
