petition to rename the usa ‘south canada’
In honor of vulture awareness day, let me ask you a question.
Do you love vultures?
You should.
Here’s why:
1, They are simultaneously the most majestic, and the most f*cking derpy of birbs. Observe -
2. THEY’RE SO FUCKING BADASS. We all know that they eat dead things. Eww, right? Wrong. They’re capable of digesting fucking rabies, cholera, hundreds of strains of bacteria that would straight up kill your ass given the chance. They deserve ALL of the respect, but they don’t get any, because ‘eww they eat dead things’.
3. THEY ARE FUCKING AMAZING AT WHAT THEY DO - Some of the highest flying birds ever recorded, with amazing eyesight and smell. Vultures are highly specialised - yes, that means they sometimes have bald heads. So what? People are all over sphinx cats and those semi-hairless dogs.
4. If you think they’re ugly, well, look at these precious babs and tell me you still don’t feel anything:
I have more reasons, but, look, I’ll just get straight to the point:
THEY’RE GOING EXTINCT, AND MORE PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW.
Populations of some vultures have fallen more than 90% in the last 20 years, and that’s scary as fuck. Reasons for this range from livestock carcasses being contaminated with certain drugs, to poachers killing them off because vultures give them away. But whatever the reasons, they’re dying off fast, and we need to act before it’s too late. We need to help protect them and conserve them as much if not more than some of the ‘cuter’ endangered creatures.
So what can you do? Here are some useful links if you want to learn more:

They really are amazing birds ~ thank you for sticking with my long-ass post
:P
Honestly something that bothers me more than most things is having my compassion mistaken for naivety.
I know that another fish might eat this bullfrog right after I spend months rehabilitating it.
I know that turning a beetle back onto its legs won’t save it from falling over again when I walk away.
I know that there is no cosmic reward waiting for my soul based on how many worms I pick off a hot sidewalk to put into the mud, or how many times I’ve helped a a raccoon climb out of a too-deep trashcan.
I know things suffer, and things struggle, and things die uselessly all day long. I’m young and idealistic, but I’m not literally a child. I would never judge another person for walking by an injured bird, for ignoring a worm, or for not really caring about the fate of a frog in a pond full of, y’know, plenty of other frogs.
There is nothing wrong with that.
But I cannot cannot cannot look at something struggling and ignore it if I may have the power to help.
There is so much bad stuff in this world so far beyond my control, that I take comfort in the smallest, most thankless tasks. It’s a relief to say “I can help you in this moment,” even though they don’t understand.
I don’t need a devil’s advocate to tell me another fish probably ate that frog when I let it go, or that the raccoon probably ended up trapped in another dumpster the next night.
I know!!!! I know!!!!!!! But today I had the power to help! So I did! And it made me happy!
So just leave me alone alright thank u!!!!
Cute cat who loves shopping in the supermarket. Supermarket rush is in progress.
pallas cats and tibetan foxes being enemies is so supremely excellent i cannot think of two better animals to face off theyre just perfect
My only goal in life is to reach this level of peace
angery!
becoming vegan because factory farming is unethical is like deciding that since walmart and amazon mistreat their employees you are now going to get everything you need out of dumpsters
Could i please get a small mammal cursed bio fact if u have one
the grasshopper mouse of the southwestern United States looks like a standard house mouse but is almost entirely carnivorous and is known to kill and consume everything from less homicidal mice to goddamn rattlesnakes, which they kill by jumping onto the snake’s back and gnawing through its spine
I thought this was an animatronic at first but apparently it’s real lol
big pats
How many people can say they have played rugby with a Beluga whale? 🐳 🏉
I found these very important pictures while doing an assignment for class and I thought I’d share them with you :)
i think about this giant elephant seal pull-out that kevin and i saw in california almost every day
If his name isn’t Chug I’m going to be heavily disappointed
pancake slug (Leidyula floridana). Florida, 12/26/18
animals really don’t get better than this do they
i already knew a woodpecker’s tongue wraps around its skull when retracted but just now learned that the reason for that is to provide cushioning from the impacts of wood pecking. what the fuck. imagine your tongue being a shock absorber
Don’t know about you…but I can definitely relate to these guys!
people mad about Pokemon classifications is hilarious to me because in real science not everything is what it seems. Wanna know the living animal most closeley related to a platypus?
an Echidna
no the echidna is not related to hedgehogs at all
unless you want to be real vague about it and say they are both mammals but even then platypus and echidnas lay eggs while hedgehogs give birth. Galarian Ponyta not being Fairy type is not that big of a deal guys, weirdest stuff exists for real.
my fave thing about alligators is that evolution was just like.. “yeah that’s fine” and left them for 80 million years
“Seals And Sealions” by Kelly Robinson
I’m posting the original vid, and y’all should definitely listen to it with sound on because Sir David Attenborough’s narration is stellar as always (and also you don’t wanna miss the squeaks at the end), but I watched this the first time with the sound off cos I was at work at the time, and had “Hall of the Mountain King” playing in my head the whole time XD
*eats a berry* *eats a berry* *eats a berry* *eats a berry* *eats a berry*
nah bro YOU live in a society. i live in a hole in the ground. not a nasty, dirty, wet hole with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and th
