Vadim Makhorov – Hong Kong Rooftopping at Night

No, this isn’t from a video game! This is a photo from a rooftop in Hong Kong’s Wanchai neighborhood overlooking Causeway Bay and Happy Valley. Rooftoppers Vadim Makhorov and Vitaliy Raskalov took several trips to Hong Kong scaling skyscrapers, taking pictures, and even hacking a huge billboard.

Buying Gift Cards For The Discounts

Buying Gift Cards for the Discounts

Grocery stores chains like Giant Eagle and Kroger like to give discounts on fuel when you buy gift cards. If they have gift cards for places I’m already going to anyway, I use them as much as possible. I even buy GameStop gift cards that I take to GameStop to buy gift cards for other places, earning points twice. Gift cards have their own problems but save money when you can by buying them for yourself.

The real reason for this post was to show off this wall of Fuelperks discounts I just got. Half of that gift card balance was spent before I even left the Giant Eagle parking lot.

Shirakaba – Chiptune Hell

Shirakaba – Chiptune Hell

Chiptune Hell is what I wish my room looked like. The desktop is filled with retro gaming gear I’d have to get at Warp Zone or Ohayocon’s dealer’s room. Is that a CRT TV with a built-in Super Famicom?

I’m trying a few new things with this post. Jetpack is now cross-posting to my rarely-used Twitter and Google+ as well as Facebook and the usual RSS feed. Even if none of those things reach you, you can now subscribe by email in the sidebar. (Can I even do that on Tumblr? That was a nice feature in Jetpack...)

I’ve also introduced tags and tagged up all my previous posts Tumblr-style. If you want to see all the music posts, other posts that have too many links, my original content, or an RSS feed of just the pixiv posts, you can get that now.

The artist's web site links right to the full-size image, I guess it's probably OK if I do the same here. Wow, this post is so meta it hurts.

TMNT Tournament Fighters

Remember when Konami made video games? Their best fighting game was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Tournament Fighters on the SNES. Last night, we played a tournament in this at our local fight night, and I did my best to explain it during the first few matchups.

Tom Scott – How much helium does it take to lift a person?

About 1 liter of helium per gram of lift. To his credit, he says that right at the start, so it’s not clickbait. Anyway, I’d be remiss if I let this popular video go unmentioned here. We just found out about the Aéroplume in France which lets visitors strap into giant balloons and fly them around inside a WW1 giant airship hangar. It’s entirely powered by the user rowing themselves around with big wings like a kayak. Very simple, but I really want to own one of these someday.

Anamanaguchi – Another Winter

30-Day Video Game Music Challenge (Super Hard Mode) Day 24: Music you constantly have stuck in your head From Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game (PS3, August 10, 2010)

Happy 10th anniversary! We want to buy this precious little beat-’em-up, but it’s been delisted since 2014. This Anamanaguchi soundtrack is all we have left of it.

Update: Scott Pilgrim collected a 1up and is getting another digital release in 2020. I hope we get a physical release too. I don't want to lose this again.

ToriNaru – ReiMari-Santa

ToriNaru – ReiMari-Santa

The tree is up, the lights are on, the presents are wrapped, and it’s Christmas Day. I might even get to take a nap for a few hours before things get started. pixiv’s Christmas tag is used way more than I expected, even on pixiv Spotlight. Happy holidays, everyone!

OK, so I doubt many people here Stateside are getting Touhou stuff for Christmas. There's actually a separate Touhou Christmas tag which itself has 2,318 results.

My Pandora Radio Stations

My Pandora Radio Stations

Pandora is still the best at finding music that is musically similar to other tracks you like. With a little patience and a little luck, it’s possible to train Pandora to hit all the right notes. I listen to a lot of different music so I have a list of stations for whatever I feel like at the moment.

Metal Mash-Up – updated off and on since 2005 with all the kinds of metal I like Expert Mode – prog rock and guitar solos that would be difficult in Guitar Hero Fun – a catch-all for punk rock, nerd rock, electropop, and much more Electronic Skill – hard EDM and industrial you’d hear in frag videos Chippy Jams – chiptunes, game soundtracks, and other tracker-sounding music Sequencer Beats – DJ grooves and hip hop instrumentals for chillin’ and Marvel Lyrical Hip Hop – only real MCs and classics, no repetitive radio-friendly rap here Wheel of Pandora – randomly plays any genre on Pandora; use in shuffles! Hitstun’s QuickMix (autoplay) – all of the stations above shuffled together

I'm aware I've got a couple stations reversed in the bottom row. You know, I almost didn't put an image in this post, but it would have looked way out of place for a post to not have a featured image. My one extension that grabs YouTube video thumbnails probably would have put that Quake 3 video's preview image in there, but this post isn’t about Quake 3.
