The lock on the bedroom window breaks. 

Jackie notices on a Friday afternoon when she can’t get it to close right. She spends fifteen minutes trying to slam it shut before giving up and telling Nat.

Nat says she’ll fix it on Sunday - her day off. 

But then Nat gets called in to work on Sunday and forgets about it. And so does Jackie. She forgets until the summer air is replaced with an autumn breeze and the rain leaves a puddle on the floor. She forgets until she’s wiping up the moisture and in that moment, Jackie means to bring it up, she really does. But when she walks into the living room, Nat is learning chords on her new electric guitar (the one she saved up all summer to buy) and Jackie’s too entranced by the sight of her to ruin the moment.

So she forgets again. 

She forgets until it’s three in the morning and it isn’t just an autumn breeze or spotty puddle. She forgets until she’s waking up to whistling wind entrapping her in its harsh embrace. The feeling of ice prickling into her skin and seeping into her pores with a daunting whisper in her ear, telling her not to worry - she’ll be warm soon. 

Jackie’s arm flails frantically beside her - the motion repeated until new hands are placed on her forearm. Warm hands. Nat’s hands. 

“Jackie.” Nat’s voice is soft yet cut with panic. “Jackie - it’s okay, you’re okay.” 

But it isn’t okay and neither is she. 

Because she can’t remember how to breathe and the ice rushing through her veins no longer feels like a memory. It’s the furthest from okay that Jackie’s been since that night (or maybe it isn’t. Maybe it isn’t by a long shot but does it even matter? It feels that way.) when Jackie was actually freezing to death. 

She should have died then. 

That was what all the doctors said; her survival was nothing short of a miracle. 

Now, as Jackie gasps for the air she can’t quite catch - she has no doubt in her mind that they were correct. She can feel the walls around her closing in and the oxygen that should be in surplus supply growing thin. It feels like she really is dying. Like her heart could burst right out of her chest. Like— 

“Jackie.” 

Jackie turns to Nat, her eyes wide and frantic. 

“Breathe with me, okay?” 

Jackie nods. She lets Nat set a hand on her chest the way she always does when she has these… these episodes. She watches her take big dramatic breaths - counting the seconds on the inhales and exhales so Jackie will know exactly how to follow along. She watches until she must be doing it too because now, her lungs are expanding properly and her pounding heart no longer feels like it’s on the brink of exploding. 

“I’m gonna shut the window, okay?” Nat says. “I’m gonna be right back.” 

Jackie nods once more. But when Nat pulls away - she can’t help the whimper that escapes her. It’s panicked and shrill and-

Oh.

Nat’s sitting with her again. She’s wrapping another blanket around Jackie’s shoulders, telling her it’ll help with the shivering, and that the room should warm up soon. 

Jackie isn’t sure if she believes her. She isn’t sure if she wants the warmth - not if it means what the lingering whispers implied. But she trusts Nat. She trusts her more than she’s ever known how to trust anyone. 

“I’m right here,” Nat says. “And I’m not going anywhere. I promise.”

was the male and female bosmer represented two different sides of our fairy myths. The women are the ethereally beautiful, good (or at least noble), fae (descended from the gods of Celtic myth); Titania, the Tuatha de Danann, the Leannán Sídhe (Tolkien’s elves also are a deliberate reference to these fae) - while the men are the little, sometimes evil, or at least trickster, fairies that we find more in medieval stories; Puck, the Fomorians, coblynau, pixies, boggarts, kobolds, etc.

to put it another way: the women are goddesscore and the men are rodentpilled

Also, for what it’s worth, Kirkbride wrote that the men have “lost their power of glamour”, so it could be that women are also ugly, they just use magic to conceal their appearance. Which is also very fae.

You know what bugs me? Bosmer males. Can we just acknowledge that Lottie is the only person we ever see Nat accept comfort from? Throughout the series, in both timelines, Nat suffers alone and in silence. Travis reaches out to touch her after both Javi and Coach Ben’s deaths, but she walks past him in both instances. When she finds Travis’ body, Misty attempts to comfort her but Nat pushes her away. Whenever Nat breaks down, she turns inward, shutting others out instead of seeking connection. Nowhere is this more evident than in the final moments of 3x09, when she begins to sob and everyone around her vanishes, leaving her utterly alone. It’s a visual metaphor for the profound isolation that defines how Nat experiences pain.

Given the nature of Nat’s home environment, I don’t think she ever learned how to accept tenderness and physical intimacy beyond sex. It’s foreign to her. And, on a deeper level, I think she doesn’t believe she deserves this kind of intimacy and unconditional care.

But, in this moment with Lottie, she finally allows herself to be held. For what might be the first time in her life, she feels safe enough to surrender, to lean into someone else’s care without flinching. She even feels safe enough to regress to a younger version of herself, a form of healing her inner child as she lays her head on Lottie’s lap. We see Nat engage in simple hello or goodbye hugs (or moments of sexual intimacy) with other characters, but Lottie is truly the only character Nat physically embraces in this unguarded, emotionally vulnerable way.

how did jackie feel about zayn leaving one direction

Jackie would LOVE 1D: they're like...the ideal. Boys who EVERYONE agrees are Attractive (so its not weird for her to like them! It's in face a mark of how Normal she is!) and who lots of very cool, normal people are obsessed by! So it's not weird if she talks about them- it's not like when she's telling people about SF storylines or womens soccer, it's not boring or lame, it's Cool! And their songs are happy and bouncy and cheerful and she just Does Not Get why Van and Shauna make faces when she plays their songs over and over in the car. (Gen and Lottie also quite like 1D. Mel and Tai don't really have any strong opinions on them. Mari LOVES them too but doesnt want people to know how much because caring that much about a boyband is both not Cool and also she knows Shauna will tease her a LOT. Nat doesn't think boybands should be allowed- they are literally A Product that was created from a tv show ffs. They just perform whats written for them, dress as theyre told, make money off kids too young to know better. That goes against everything that music stands for. Like if they were an independent group that made the same music- meh not her taste but fine. But they're literally a PRODUCT, even THEY dont care about the music they make! *sees Jackie come into the room and shuts up immediately bc she knows jackie loves them and the only thing worse than corporate bullshit bands is spoiling something that someone loves so wholeheartedly. And no she absolutely wasn't absent mindedly humming/bobbing along to Story of my life when she was in the kitchen making dinner, stfu Van, stop laughing-)

All that to say, Jackie gets really upset when Zayn leaves because that's a Change. What if the band isnt cool anymore and people dont want to let her talk about them? What will she listen to now there wont be new songs? What if she forgets he's not a member and people laugh? What if- She basically gets kind of sad and mildly panicky over it but Nat knows its more about the change and the sadness that one of her safe socially accepted interests is now Different. It's ok, she gets over it- the other YJs treat Jackie, Gen and Mari to a night eating snacks and watching all their videos and stuff together and even Van and Shauna are sweet about it and that helps.

(Side note: Lottie likes the music but is, as with lots of things, not that bothered about little details like band lore or like knowing the band members names. When Jackie tells her Zayn is leaving, she asks who Zayn is and then shrugs and says maybe they'll just get a new guy who looks a bit like him to be Zayn, right? Like when your goldfish dies and your nanny gets you a new one that looks just like it so you don't cry because there's a Very Important Dinner Party and if you;re throwing a fit, it'll get ruined? Nat is like dying laughing inside as she patiently explains that like no, boyband members arent the same as goldfish. Why not? Well theyre not scaly, they dont swim.... No Lot, I dont know if the band members can swim. I guess they can. Anyway- (I love the idea that Lottie is just very much totally on her own plane of thought and reasoning. And she can keep going with her questions and theories for AGES and sometimes she genuionly believes it, sometimes shes messing with you a bit but only she ever knows which....)

like, there have been a lot of absolutely vile ideologies and states through history. empires. monarchies. dictatorships both red and brown. theocracies. but at least they all have like. a coherent idea of how the world works and the realities of power and real political theory and actual successful (in some form) societies that they can look back on. and for the most part they recognize that those societies were not perfect utopias, but are able to argue that their actions had some purpose beyond simple malice. to put it another way all these ideologies have some idea of the social contract and the greater good and realpolitik. some liberties have to be given up. some people have to be hurt or killed. some morally repugnant things have to be done so that most people can go on living a relatively good life.

yourhelenwolf is posting revolution stuff again, so for those who are new and haven’t experienced interaction with her, she is a homophobic bigot who thinks we are personally responsible for people not taking robespierre’s legacy seriously because of our degenerate ways. she gets incredibly creepy and stalks and harasses artists to accuse them of copying her, so block and don’t interact with her if you’d rather not deal with that.

note: i am not saying she is homophobic because she doesn’t think these men experienced same sex attraction. i am saying she’s homophobic because of the way she talks about homosexuality with disgust and calls it perversion and moral corruption.

💛☀️Thinking abt all the yellowjackets going on a trip to a farm/petting zoo and meeting up with Travis (he’s deffo a flip/uncle cg). Akilah dragging him off to go look at the bunnies immediately whilst Van, Melissa, Gen and Mari are chasing each other on those pedal go karts painted to look like tractors (Van is very much in cg space which makes the whole thing even funnier to imagine). Jackie, Shauna and Misty are all giggling copying the calves’ loud moos back to them after initially being startled, and when they get to the stables area Tai has to step in when they start bickering over which one of them is the pony’s favourite person. Lottie is sitting down on a tiny hay bale seat, super quiet and calmly feeding a baby lamb, whispering gently to it like her Mama does to her when she has her bottle, whilst Nat beams with pride.💛☀️
