I absolutely love that Penelope arranges the competition of stringing Odysseus' bow for the suitors BECAUSE she saw the storm and (rightfully) believes it means Odysseus has returned. She distracts them with a task she knows they can not complete to give Odysseus time to come up with a plan (and she has his bow out and ready for him, she has provided a weapon for him.) She's just as smart and cunning as Odysseus and it's shown beautifully in this saga

If Project 2025 goes into effect (which it very likely will now that we have three red branches of government in the US), they may attempt to restrict the use/sharing of media on sites like ao3.

This particularly applies to fics with smut or any type of queer content, because the official Project 2025 document states, "Pornography, manifested today in the omnipresent propagation of transgender ideology and sexualization of children, for instance... has no claim to First Amendment protection... Pornography should be outlawed."

Now, I don't expect ao3 to disappear or go anywhere without a fight, but it's best to be on the safe side these days.

To download your favorite fics:

Go to archiveofourown.org and open the fic you want to download.

At the top right corner, to the right of the 'subscribe' button, is a button that says 'download'. Click it.

A drop-down menu will give you the option to choose the format of your download. Choose your preferred format (.epub and .pdf are my personal favorites -- .epub lets you open a fic in the apple books app and .pdf is compatible with like every device and program out there).

When you click the button for your preferred format, a pop-up window appears confirming your choices. The title of the document will default to the title of the fic, so be aware of that and consider changing conspicuous titles to something ignorable, especially if you share the computer.

people in fanfiction are so good at identifying v specific smells. I literally struggle to identify vanilla when I’m sniffing a candle labelled “VANILLA” how are these kids getting woodsmoke, rain, mint, and a whiff of byronic despair from a fuckin tshirt

You’re probably gonna feel a lot of feelings tonight and in the next couple of days. Don’t make any massive life decisions until the initial feeling of dread has passed you. It feels like people baby Nari too much in Tales of Arcadia. Most of the fan fiction I've read portray her like a little girl and Douxie's younger sister. She's also a pacifist in most of these and I feel like that's just not accurate at all to her character. Like girl didn't hesitate to kill Skrael to protect everybody lol. Not to mention at the Battle of Kill ahead, she was an active part in everything the Order did. Like she wasn't being forced until after that battle specifically. Overall she did many bad things and I feel like people brush over this or treat her like a stupid person who was childish. She liked to have fun but she clearly wasn't stupid or weak. I feel like she had to suppress her powers for years to avoid being found which is why she appears weaker. But yah while there is a clear maturity difference between her and Merlin, there is also a clear maturity difference between him and Bellroc and Skrael. The order in general feel like younger villains than the others we've had maturity wise but this doesn't mean Nari's a child. I don't feel like she's the baby of the group or weakest one and I just feel like those descriptions of her character don't do justice to how she fled the Order and did everything in her power to stop them knowing her past.

I need more fics where the villains see how much heroes are suffering and they're like "I wanted to see you hurt. I wanted to defeat you. I wanted you to surrender to me- but this- this is not what I wanted. I did not want to see you shattered"

And after that they're like "Nonononono why do you do this to me? Why are you making me feel emotions? Why are you making me feel compassion for you? I'm not supposed to have mercy on you"
