not quite the reaction harry had grown accustomed to in auradon. “aye, that would be right.” now the boy had his full attention. it wasn’t every day that someone actually challenged a pirate of all people to a drinking contest. “really think ye can drink a pirate under the table?? alright, i’ll bite. ye got a deal. an’ i’ll be looking forward tae ‘earing all o’ ‘bout halloween town.”
the former ghost grinned when his offer was accepted. drinking against a pirate would certainly be a challenge but not one that salem couldn’t handle. “i think, never say never.” he chuckled, shaking his head excitedly. “sure. okay, so should we find a bar then?” or the skellington boy had plenty of alcohol at his place if the pirate rather do the contest in private.

“Something like that,” Maleficent smiled slightly, she moved a little closer, she’d never been a seductress, and she wasn’t now, but she knew this form had a coy sort of charm. “Tell me about her, tell me what bothers you…” She tilted his chin towards her, “I can do more than read minds you know…”
If any warning bells were going off, he registered none of them, totally unaware that he was potentially being played by the mistress of evil. “She’s... smart, self-sacrificing, strong, warm and ice cold. She’s everything I don’t deserve because I would just ruin her and get us both hurt.” Physically and emotionally. “Not that she would ever give me a chance,” he admitted, eyes flickering up to meet hers. “What do you mean?” He asked in a soft voice.

“Oh please, you have to know…the way he looks at Uma. You can hear them from the dock…and sometimes Carlos De Vill is there too.” She hoped her casual tone made it sound more humiliating for Elva. “There is no progress without breaking down walls,” She said sagely, a true sentiment but not one she usually followed. “I can’t help you if you dot tell me,”
“She’s his captain... De Vil?” Salem shook his head, not wanting to think badly of Harry because he was a cool guy to hang out with but Elva was his best friend. Feelings or no feelings, he never wanted to see someone hurt her. “I can see ghosts. They talk to me, yell at me or sometimes just scream. I don’t know it depends on how they died I guess. It’s just too much sometimes.” All the time. “Sometimes I can even feel they’re pain and I-- I am not strong enough to handle all that.”

“Salem my son. How are you doing?”
“Dad!” For the first time in awhile, Salem was genuinely excited to see his dad. “Pretty great actually. I didn’t know you were in town.”

something had clearly happened. not that harry was even remotely aware of anything that could have possibly triggered this episode. he was hardly the person that was going to be a good influence on him, however. “moving on, eh?? alright, then, cheers. pretty sure i’d be willing tae drink tae ‘bout jus’ anything.” any excuse to have a drink, really.
“you’ll probably beat me this time,” he remarked as he brought the bottle down from his lips. he was already high but his heart felt like broken glass, he planned to drink until he felt nothing. “anyways --- ‘nough of the sappy bullshit. what’s up with you? any new pirate adventures going on?”

“It’s not exactly at the best of standards. Alot is just pretty okay and the stuff that was considered really good was very expensive.” She remembered how she stole some food once and they almost caught her but she managed to get away. Taking a bite of her pancake. “Maybe in the dungeons or in the woods. I know when I’ve come from visiting my dad I saw like a spider web. Maybe not in the school though. I swear its like that place is spot clean.” She said dramatically but she doubt that anything like that would be hard to find.
“That’s the irony here, the cheap stuff is better than the expensive stuff.” Salem would take a fast food burger any day over some five course meal filled with all kinds of weird food. Weird in a not good way to the Halloween prince. “The woods are fun. Quiet, these days.” Not just because of the cold, but because people were afraid of what was lurking within the woods. “But you’re right about the school. I lived in Halloweentown until my parents figured it’d be better if I attended high school here.” And now that he had graduated, he was doing nothing to make it all worth it.

gil thought over the other’s words, and though he knew he was right, he still couldn’t help but feel that while they need him now for his strengh it doesn’t mean they will always need him and they will more than likely get rid of him as soon as there’s no need for him – even if uma and harry have told him many times how much they care for him. “i – i suppose you are right,” he shrugged, still unsure as he looked up to watch salem’s expression. “well, you never know — maybe in the future you will get them back but i think you’re great, i mean you aren’t perfect but no one is. what do you mean by ghost though ? like you’re invisble for them now ?”
salem could tell gil’s confidence was still far from uplifted but self esteem never came easy. “i have to be right sometimes, yeah.” he chuckled, trying to create a happier mood. “no one---” he tilted his head, wondering if he should say it out loud before he figured out he was too drunk to care. “no one wants to be near an addict.” a brow arched before he figured out what had confused the other. “oh ! no.” he chuckled. “i’m from halloweentown. thought i told ya but i was a ghost.” he lifted up his arm, pointing to his tattoos which were simple black stitch markings that covered most of his body. “my mother's a ragdoll and my dad’s a skeleton. the one good thing about having a human body is tattoos.”
“I’m still dead, I can’t stay like this forever, I don’t think so anyways.” He shrugged, very unconcerned about his state of life or afterlife. “It’s more like I’m possessing a body made especially for me.” The wonders of magic. While he would have been perfectly happy to inhabit Auradon in his ghost form, an agreement had been reached that it was better if he was not in such a disfigured form.

“So, explain to me again how one just goes about un-dying. As far as any of the spirits back at the mansion are aware, death is a fairly permanent state of being.” It was a concept she simply couldn’t seem to wrap her head around. “I, for one, know that there are several happy haunts who would much rather maintain their lack of life.”
