Just a reminder that Castiel was a captain and highly skilled strategist while he served in heaven as a seraph.

Not to mention he was highly admired, enough to persuade half of the Host to follow him rather than his rival (an archangel) in his civil war.

In “Point of No Return” he faces five angels all by himself and is able to do so and still come out alive by carving an angel banishing symbol onto his own body.

Moreover, he would have to had been concentrating on not letting any of the blood flow from the carving while fighting off the angels, so as not to alert them with a bloody shirt until he was ready to actually use it.

Archangels are said to be “absolute…heaven’s most terrifying weapon.”

During the series, Castiel has faced all four archangels by himself, knowing it is certain death to do so. (In fact he was killed by two of them).

He managed to break into Lucifer’s Cage and rescue Sam.

In “The Great Escapist” he uses quantum super-position to remain out of Naomi’s grasp while protecting the angel tablet.

In that same episode, he dug a bullet out of his own guts while keeping the angel guarding him distracted before burying the bullet in the guard’s eye.

You should show him some respect.

Reasons to get an AO3 account as a reader

Every time I see someone who reads lots of fic on AO3 but doesn’t have an account, I have to wonder if they realize how many features AO3 has just for readers. This is not an exhaustive list, but here are a few (and I’ve saved the best for last!):

Bookmarks - You probably know these exist because you’ve seen them on fic you read. But did you know that you can:

Make private bookmarks that only you can see - they don’t show up when someone clicks that “bookmarks” link. Not even the author can see them. 


Organize your bookmarks with tags.

Filter them like you would a search.

Add your own comments/descriptions, either for your own benefit or the benefit of people looking for something to read. (Just remember that unless your bookmark is private everyone including the author can see tags & comments.)

History - AO3 can track every fic you’ve ever viewed. My history is 373 pages long. However, you can delete any fic from your history with the click of a button, clear your entire history at once, or turn this off.

“Marked for Later” - Some people use bookmarks to save fics they haven’t read yet, but there’s also a separate system for that. When you’re logged in there’s a “Mark for Later” button on each fic. Then you can filter your History down to just those Marked for Later. Once you’ve read a marked fic you can then hit the “Mark as Read”  button and it will drop off this

The downside to both the History and Marked for Later is that this system currently can’t be sorted or filtered beyond that, but it can be useful nonetheless if you want to save your Bookmarks for rereading your faves.

Locked fics - Some people lock their fics to registered users for many reasons. They don’t want their fics showing up in search engines, they don’t want bots stealing them, they’re having a troll problem, etc. Without an AO3 account you won’t even see that these exist.

Comment notifications - You have an inbox on AO3, and anytime anyone replies to one of your comments you will get a notification. No more having to go back and check fics to see if authors replied to you! You can also opt to get an email every time.

Customize how you see the site - You can use site skins, hide tags or warnings on fics, skip the extra step to view adult content (if you’re 18+), even customize how your browser titles the window.

Last but very much not least:

Subscribe to fics, series, or authors - I honestly don’t understand how anyone keeps up with WIPs without this.


Get an email every time a new chapter is posted, or every time one of your favorite writers posts a new fic or chapter!

Don’t want to read a WIP as it’s being posted? Subscribe and know as soon as the last chapter goes up.


Worth getting an account just for this alone tbh.

(Hitting subscribe is also one more way to show an author you care, although authors can’t see subscriber #s on series.)

There are probably more, but those are the main ones. Yes, you have to wait a few days to get an account, but it’s worth it. If you’re worried because you don’t want people seeing you kudos certain fics (that one tentacle fic you’ll never admit to having read?) - the way login is setup it’s actually super easy to log out, leave anonymous kudos, and log back in without leaving the fic. AO3 is designed by users; they’ve got your back.

And hey, if you ever decide to take the plunge and post something, that’s one step out of your way!

(And seriously, subscribing is a game-changer.)

Dean first heard the phrase a few weeks after his mom died.

John had checked them into a motel—one of the many that they had cycled through in the past few weeks. Sam was asleep in the crib, and John was on the opposite bed. Dean had woken up to a strange sound; he rolled over and saw John at the foot of the bed, head bowed, shoulders shaking.

Dean had never seen his dad cry before. Even right after the fire, when he was telling the detectives what happened at the police station: completely dry-eyed. So seeing his dad cry was… strange. Dean wanted to make it stop. 

He pushed back the sheets and hopped off the bed. Walking on unsteady, sleepy toddler legs to his dad, he put either hand on John’s knees, looking up at him. John was clutching a worn picture of Mary between his fingers.

“Are you okay, dad?” Dean asked.

John continued to stare at the picture of Mary’s smiling face. After a moment, he sniffed. Wiped his face that was striped with tears with the back of his hand. He ruffled Dean’s hair and said gruffly, “Yeah, kid. I’m fine. Get back to sleep, okay? We got work to do in the morning.”

And the next morning in the car, when Sam was crying in his carseat and kicking up a storm, Dean patted his head and said, “It’s okay, Sammy, shh. Stop crying. We got work to do, okay? So you can’t cry. We got to work.” 

Sam just stared at him with big teary and trusting eyes. Dean didn’t even know what he was really saying at the time; what he was getting them into.

Day 30 - Kansas

It takes him 3 days to get there - 3 days of driving and barely any stops for food. He doesn’t exactly know why he’s going up there - maybe to see it, maybe to talk, maybe to just sit. But either way, it takes him 3 days. 

He gets there when it’s dark and he has to stop the Impala and sit for a very long minute - which turns into 3, and then 4, and then 5. And then he’s rushing to get out of the confines of the car and the door is slamming shut behind him. 

The air is cold when he steps out, and his hair gets swept from his face - he really needed to cut it again. He shoves his hands into his jacket and he pushes himself further down into it to block out the cold. He stands still for another moment before he takes a deep breath, the cold burning his lungs, and he starts forward. 

It takes him exactly 123 steps to find the grave. It takes him 23 seconds to kneel down and settle his hand on the granite name of Mary Winchester. He let out a shuddering breath at the feel of it, and he bowed his head slightly. 

He could do this. He could say it - even if it wasn’t really her, it wasn’t like he could go up to heaven and tell her. He braces himself, letting himself take a moment. 

“Mom-” he starts, before he cuts off, emotions flooding through and causing his throat to feel thick. He swallows thickly before he begins again. “Mom…I…I thought you should know something.”

It takes him another moment to pull his hand away from the stone, dropping it to his side. He stands again after a moment and takes a deep breath, one of his fingers moving to twist the ring on his hand. 

“I’m engaged,” he says, his breath coming out in a rough breath, and he says it more to the stars in the sky than to the grave. He feels a low weight lifted off of him, and he feels himself relax. “Yeah…I’m engaged,” he repeats, bowing his head, his eyes finding the ring quickly. 

“Cas asked me about a month ago and I….I needed to tell you,” he whispers, his chest constricting. He needed to tell her - it was this way or no way, and he would take this way. He stood for a moment longer before nodding and turning on his heel, marching back to the car. 

It would take 3 days to get back to where Sam and Cas were now, but he would get there. And when he did, he’d have Cas to hold him as he told what he did, to rock him as he told how it hurt, to do everything he could to make Dean forget. 

He had Cas. He was engaged to Cas. It was fine. Everything was fine.

The Rupture

I have honestly never been more confused at the meta community than I am tonight, with everyone upset and freaking out.

YES, the scene hurt. IT WAS SUPPOSED TO HURT. 

YES, Dean is acting irrationally and taking his hurt and anger out on Cas.

YES, this is not cool behavior.

But also, YES, this is Dean, this is what he DOES when he’s hurting, and YES, Cas has a right to stand up for himself. Moreover, WE WANT HIM TO WALK AWAY. We WANT him to do EXACTLY what he did. The show has painted Dean into a corner. If he wants Cas back (he does- “where are you going?!”- he had NO clue Cas was actually going to leave. He thinks he can push and push and Cas will always just be there -because he ALWAYS HAS BEEN. But that’s the PROBLEM. That’s STATIC. You want them to move forward? This HAD to happen). 

If Dean wants Cas back, he is going to HAVE to use his words. He’s going to HAVE to tell Cas he needs him for HIM, not because he’s a tool. Not because of his powers. Not for what he can do FOR Dean, but who HE IS to him. 

THIS IS LITERALLY DRAGGING THE DEANCAS RELATIONSHIP FRONT AND CENTER. THEY ARE THE A-PLOT. And all the romantic framing?! The SamWitch scenes contrasted against the DeanCas ones? Sam being NOWHERE near that “goodbye” scene despite literally being down the hallway? ITS A LOVE STORY Y’ALL AND THIS IS THE FINAL ANGST BEFORE THE FINALLY USE THEIR WORDS.

AND- ALL BY EPISODE 3!!!!! EPISODE FREAKING THREE. There are 17 left!!! Y’ALL. WHat in the frilly heck are you panicking about?!?!?!?

Not that I need to add this, but the “emotional scene” that wrecked Jensen and Misha that Mish mentioned at BurCon is in Ep 8. So. ??

It hurt to watch. I’m devastated for Cas. I’m sad and mad at Dean the character. But i’m FUCKING ELATED about this arc, this is a total setup and I am 100% HERE FOR IT.

It’s sad, and frankly kind of ticks me off, to see the posts where content providers are asking for reblogs. You like it enough to heart it? What does it take, a few seconds more to reblog it. It doesn’t go with your blog’s aesthetic? Fuck that. If you want to see art and fanfics in your feed, you need to be supportive of the creators! Otherwise, they will either move to another site where the people are more supportive, or just stop making content all together,

There are things Cas likes to do, now: spend hours outside in their makeshift garden, covered in soil and humming to the plants in his wide-brimmed hat; take long showers that use most of the hot water, leaving the bathroom partially flooded and smelling like jasmine; organize his tea collection; wear weird fabrics and bright lipsticks; run and spar and meditate; drink a cold beer; dance.

It’s the dancing that kind of fucks Dean up.

The rest he could definitely see coming - the idea that someone technically genderless wants to play around with gender ain’t groundbreaking to him, no matter how much that seems to shock people - but the dancing is… weird. Mostly because Das, for all his earnest enthusiasm, is impressively bad at it.

Then again, that’s what probably happens when you’ve been in a meatsuit for less than one percent of your entire existence; no amount of dance or movement theory can help the way Cas swings his damn arms. 

He’s swinging them right now, Etta James playing low on the radio as he sits at the kitchen table “keeping Dean company” while Dean does the dishes. Dean isn’t totally sure how Cas always ends up keeping the dish washer company instead of washing, himself, but he figures it has something to do with the way that even though Cas looks like he needs an emergency room every time he starts to dance… he also looks kinda cute while he does it. In a please help him kind of way. 

“Hey, get up for a minute.”
