Winter Witchcraft

❄ Gather pine cones

❄ Collect feathers from winter fowl. Do not collect feathers if you live in the     US!

❄ Collect snow and melt it. Charge the water under the December full moon to     create a powerful snow water to use in your winter spells. Use snow water to     protect your house and hearth, to charge your magick tools, and to purify         your amulets. Snow water possesses healing powers.

❄ Have a winter bonfire to celebrate winter solstice.

❄ Set yourself goals for the new year.

❄ Take a walk under the full moon when the snow is reflecting its light. This is        a time for reflection and visions. Record you experience and any important        thoughts or visions you receive. 

❄Stand outside in a blizzard and feel your energy restoring. 

❄  Brew yourself a cider. Add herbs and fruits with certain correspondences for      December such as joy, peace, family happiness, etc.

❄ December is a time for reflection of the passing year.

❄ Do Yule baking and incorporate kitchen witchcraft. 

❄ Weave a wreath with holly and plants that correspond with protection and         yule.

❄ Burn incense of cinnamon, patchouli, frankincense, orange, and myrrh.  

❄ December is a time for hearth and home magick.

❄ Burn candles throughout your home to invite positive energies, coziness,           and peace. 

❄ Collect evergreen, holly, cedar and pine clippings.

❄ Forage for rose hips.

❄ Tie up any loose ends you have in your life.

❄ Finish this years grimoire and add any last minute touch ups.

❄ Collect dried leaves. Define their properties and put them in your herbal             grimoire.

❄ Brew yourself new tea combinations to start off the new year with.

❄ Make witch balls and other magickal decorations to hang on your yule tree       and decorate your house with. 

❄ Make winter solstice lanterns.

❄ Throw a sprig of holly into a yule fire to burn away your troubles from the            past year.  A large amount or if thrown into an indoor fireplace may be      poisonous, use with caution!  

❄ Make a yule log. 

❄  Throw a ritual or celebration to welcome back the sun.

❄  Use elements from nature to decorate your home.

❄  At the end of the month do a deep house cleansing to remove all negative        energy and to give the new year a fresh start.

Bealtaine, Feen und die Plejaden.

In einem früheren Beitrag habe ich über den Zusammenhang zwischen unseren Vorstellungen von ähnlichen Mustern geschrieben, die im gesamten Universum auftreten, einschließlich mikroskopischer Organismen und ganzer Galaxien und Sternbilder.

Wenn es um Sternenkonstellationen und Bealtaine geht, werden Sie vielleicht überrascht sein, wie stark die Verbindung zwischen den beiden ist. Tatsächlich ist es in einigen alten Traditionen überhaupt nicht das Datum des 1. Mai, das das Datum von Bealtaine bestimmt. (Denken Sie daran, dass die Zeit, die wir als Bealtaine kennen, bereits existierte, lange bevor ihr dieser Titel verliehen wurde.) Stattdessen würde dies durch die Position der Plejaden in Verbindung mit der Sonne bestimmt. Die Bewegung der Plejaden in das Sternbild Stier könnte auch eine verbindende Bedeutung für die Feier der Kühe zu dieser Zeit haben. Der Dowth-Megalith, von Martin Brennan „Stein der sieben Sonnen“ genannt, wurde von Anthony Murphy von Mythical Ireland und dem Forscher Richard Moore zur Darstellung der Plejaden vorgeschlagen. Anthony hat auch auf die Dowth-Legende aufmerksam gemacht, die sich auf den König Bresail Bó-Dibad (dem es an Vieh mangelte) zur Zeit einer großen Viehhungernot in der Antike bezieht, die dazu führte, dass ein Stier und sieben Kühe in Irland übrig blieben. Dies scheint ein Hinweis auf Stier und die sieben „Schwestern“ der Plejaden zu sein und diese Idee zu untermauern. Auch das Motiv der Kuh wird mit Bealtaine in Verbindung gebracht. Im alten Irland sollen Rinderherden rituell zwischen zwei großen Feuern in Bealtaine getrieben worden sein, um sie zu schützen und zu reinigen. Im Fruchtbaren Halbmond und in Ägypten wurde Stier mit Hathor und verschiedenen Kuhgöttinnen identifiziert. Hathor repräsentierte sowohl Nahrung als auch Schönheit. Für die Römer hieß es, der Stier werde von Venus regiert, die auch die Göttin der Schönheit war, und die Griechen setzten Hathor mit der Göttin Aphrodite gleich. Der Monat Mai ist zu Ehren der Göttin Maia benannt, die auch als die schönste der sieben Schwestern der Plejaden gilt. Auch diese Sternenassoziation macht sich sowohl in astrologischen Überlieferungen als auch in mythologischen und historischen Korrespondenzen bemerkbar. Für einige Gelehrte ist Maia mit der irischen Königin Maeve, der Feenkönigin, vergleichbar, aber mehr dazu im nächsten Beitrag dieser kurzen Serie. Die Verbindung zur Schönheit und den Plejaden könnte hinter einem bestimmten alten irischen Brauch von Bealtaine und Mayday stecken. Dazu musste man kurz vor Sonnenaufgang nach draußen gehen und sein Gesicht mit dem Morgentau waschen, der angeblich mit der Magie und Kraft des Sternenlichts erfüllt war.

Aber haben wir trotz aller Folklore tatsächlich Beweise dafür, dass die Plejaden im alten Irland eine rituelle Bedeutung hatten? Dank der jüngsten Ausgrabungen tun wir das. In seinem Buch „Harvesting the Stars: a pagan tempel at Lismullin, Co. Meath“ dokumentiert der Autor Aidan O'Connell von Archer Heritage Limited die jüngste Entdeckung der Plejaden-Ausrichtung im Gabhra-Tal, unterhalb des Hügels von Tara, Co. Meath . Während wir dank der tragbaren Natur neuer Technologien und Sternplanungs-Apps weiterhin weitere Ausrichtungen entdecken, wird die Bedeutung von Bealtaine in einem Sternenkontext möglicherweise deutlicher.

Der Plejadenhaufen taucht auch in vielen volkstümlichen Anekdoten und Mythen über die Toten und den Übergang in die und aus der Geisterwelt auf.

In einigen Traditionen ist dieser mittlere Ort oder die Anderswelt das Reich zwischen der menschlichen Welt und dem Aufenthaltsort der Götter.

Es ist ein Ort, an dem Phantasie, Archetypen und die Geister wohnen.

Sie können verstehen, warum es in diesem Zusammenhang für viele eine Überschneidung zwischen Feen und Toten gibt.

Die Verbindung zwischen Bealtaine, Feen und den Plejaden wird in der Tat in einigen sehr interessanten Überlieferungen dargestellt.

Für einige ist Bealtaine eine Zeit, in der "böse" Feen umherziehen und in der die Menschen vorsichtig sein sollten, wenn sie mit ihrem Reichtum prahlen oder ihn zur Schau stellen.

Andere assoziieren den Aufgang der Plejaden mit der Vertreibung der "dunklen Feen" bis Samhain, wenn die Plejaden stattdessen bei Sonnenuntergang aufgehen.

Vielleicht ist dieser Wechsel darauf zurückzuführen, dass die Plejaden bei Sonnenuntergang und nicht bei Sonnenaufgang am Nachthimmel erscheinen?

In der irischen Folklore gibt es allerdings keine Kategorie "gute" oder "böse" Feen, so dass es sich hierbei um eine neuere Entwicklung handeln könnte.

Vielleicht liegt die Wahrheit dieses Glaubens aber auch irgendwo dazwischen, und es ist unsere eigene Natur, die bestimmt, wie wir mit den "guten Menschen" umgehen, wenn wir ihnen begegnen! ©David Halpin.

Witch Tips

Witch tips from a witch who has practiced for many years; here are some of my traditional beliefs as well as things I picked up along the way. 💫

🔮 When foraging, do not forget to thank for what you took. Thanks the gods, the fae, the earth, or whomever you worship, but do not just take.

🌙 Wear beautiful clothes when performing a ritual. Before I get into saying anything else I want to say - There is NO PRICE VALUE which makes the ritual clothes beautiful. They do not have to be expensive, or a certain brand, or from a certain place, or anything of the sort. Just make sure that they are well taken care of and that you think they are beautiful.

🔮 People will rarely understand you, and most do not actually even want to. But the trees. The plants. Animals of the earth. Rivers, still and moving water. The stars and the moon. They understand, they will listen, and if you listen, too, you will hear what you need to and be validated and understood. People alive thousands of years before you have been sharing the same heartbreak, pain, suffering, and struggle with the universe. It understands. It has heard before, and will listen again.

🌙 When trying to meditate, you are not actually doing anything wrong by being unable to “clear your mind.” The goal is not actually to have a blank mind, but an open and receptive one. If a thought pops in suddenly, acknowledge it, dismiss it, and move on. It doesn’t mean you’re not focused or doing it wrong.

🔮 Another note about meditation; there is no shame in needing herbs to achieve meditation. There is nothing wrong with you. Some people just need the extra help, and that is okay! It is also a traditional part of many practices to smoke, ingest, or otherwise consume herbs before a ritual/meditation/journey/etc. This pertains to herbs such a kava, sage, wormwood, mugwort, and cannabis. (Do not use unless you ask a doctor, know it’s safe, and so on.)

🌙 Wisdom is the combination of emotion and logic. To make a wise decision, validate the emotion and why it is being felt, look at the logic and the facts, and combine the information for the answer.

🔮 Do not be discouraged that you cannot find witches (or Wiccans, Pagans, Druids, etc) where you live. We are here. We are all over the world. It is just unsafe in some places to practice openly. But if you look for us, you will find us.

🌙 Intent is the most powerful ingredient you have.

🔮 There are hundreds (if not thousands) or ways to create a sigil, and you can make a sigil hundreds of different ways. This also goes for charging and activating sigils.

🌙 You can practice both black and white magick at the same time.

🔮 Bullying other witches is never a good idea. Obviously, bullying anyone is never a good idea and you shouldn’t, but in my years I have seen over and over again it happen when one witch attacks another and then that witch comes down with horrible luck. That is not just because they were cursed by people who support the witch who was being bullied (which is also a huge risk, and causes a lot of issues and conflict) but the universe knows when a witch attacks another witch, and it doesn’t like that. (This does not include calling someone out in an appropriate way for unacceptable behavior and so on. But when you do it about differing opinions….)

🌙 Never stop researching. You will never know everything.

🔮 Deciding that you want to start to practicing witchcraft does NOT mean you have do denounce any previous beliefs.

Do you know anything about creating servitors?

A servitor is a spiritual being you create in order to do your bidding.

Servitors are used for:

Protecting you spiritually.

Guarding your property or your loved ones.

Creating glamour: creating a certain aura about you, and how others perceive you.

Bring you things you might need.

Aid in tasks.

Some servitors are such powerful thoughtforms that even others can see it (although this tends to be rare or is reserved for long-existing servitors).

Essentially, creating a servitor is put into three parts:

Construction.

Charging.

Casting.

It is outlined as follows:

Construction

You will need to create a symbolic representation of your servitor. What do you want your servitor to do? If, for example, you would want your servitor to guard you, you might want to create one in the form of a knight or an intimidating dog. Or, if you want to create an appearance entirely of your own, you may wish to add features such as sharp teeth, claws, weapons, armour, etc.The possibilities are endless although I do suggest using features that you associate with protection (I prefer using traditional associations, sometimes I even borrow imagery from tarot cards). Even drawing it out on a piece of paper helps you mentally create a “solid” representation of it if you don’t want to solely rely on your imagination in your head. Also consider: what special powers does your servitor have? What colour aura does it have? It is advisable to create a smaller servitor to begin with because larger ones require more energy.

Create your statement of intent for your servitor (what you want it to do). However, be specific and create guidelines - for example, if you want your servitor to help you gain money, you may want to tell it that causing misfortune in order to gain money is not permissible. You don’t want anything to backfire! 

It is also advisable that you create a sigil for your servitor or a symbol by which you will know your servitor. Finally, you will need to give your servitor a name. It can be any name you like or deem fitting. Do not tell anyone its name. 

Charging

After you have created the appearance and description of your servitor, you will need to actually bring it to life.

Draw the sigil or symbol of your servitor on a piece of paper and find a place where you will not be disturbed. Focus all of your attention on the sigil, repeating the servitor’s name. Visualise as vividly as you can the servitor’s shape forming. Firstly the base, and then the main symbols and features, and then the detail. You need to believe with all your will that the servitor is real and alive. There is no point in creating something which you think does not exist. This can take from 10-30 minutes. Repeat this for three days. Afterwards, the servitor will be able to function and appear on its own. 

Casting

You will need to give the servitor concise instructions on how to do your bidding here. See the servitor alive before you and call its name. Then, give it your instruction and then send it out to do your bidding. Never be afraid of your servitor, it is bound to you and it exists in order to fulfil your work and desires. 

You will also have to decide on what your servitor will feed on in order to require energy (you may wish to do this on the creation section too). Here are some examples:

Sunlight.

Moonlight.

Incense.

Candles.

Attention.

Prayers.

Water.

I suggest not using your blood or yourself as a way to charge it because this can very quickly spiritually drain you, especially if it is a larger servitor. 

You might also want to create a vessel or talisman for your servitor, and this way “feeding” it is easier as you can place the object on the feeding source. You can use anything you deem fitting for this, either jewellery, a statue, a drawing, a crystal, etc. 

To get rid of a servitor

If you no longer require a servitor because its purpose has been fulfilled, you may wish to destroy it. You can either stop using it and feeding it, destroy its vessel, or simply tell the servitor to stop and return to you. 

Damon Brand suggests that you add a code word or ritual to the job description that when spoken or done ends the life of the servitor – the warning being that it shouldn’t be a word or ritual that you could do by accident and destroy your Servitor without that being your intention.

Runen Bedeutung Fehu

Fehu ist die Rune für: Reichtum und Vollendung

Die Rune Fehu verkörpert materiellen Besitz, den man durch Fleiß und Fähigkeiten erworben hat. Sie entspricht dem materiellen Glück, welches ein Gefühl von Wohlstand vermittelt. Es gilt diesen Reichtum sinnvoll einzusetzen und auch an das Wohl anderer zu denken.

1. Rune Fehu - Rinder, Vieh

Als Sinnbild stellt die Rune Fehu eine Viehherde dar. Zur damaligen Zeit der Wikinger war der Besitz einer Rinderherde nicht nur persönlicher Reichtum, sondern auch eine grundlegende Nahrungsquelle. Mit ihr konnte die Familie versorgt werden, aber auch Handel betrieben. Somit war das Vieh nicht nur ein Zeichen des sozialen Standes. Es ging auch um das Wohl der Gemeinschaft.
