genuinely feel like the writers were approaching the lightning thief with a blood of olympus era mentality. like chiron asking percy if he agreed with luke's points? that is something percy thinks about five years from now walking through tartarus. a lot of the attitude they gave percy and especially sally regarding the gods, the overall tone of the show, is more reminiscent of how the characters we're meeting now started to feel after the titan war had ended. i think it will be interesting to see how they escalate these feelings if we are starting at the book canon's peak of anti-olympus sentiment
suzanne collins is such a genius... the cultural phenomenon of her series leading to the hanging tree house remixes, mockingjay being milked for two (bad) movies, the capitol-inspired makeup palettes, the halloween costumes, the explosion of the market for dystopia, the butchering of her characters and removal of disabilities, disfiguration, and racial tension + representation to sell more tickets, the extra gale scenes to fuel discourse, and the audience showing up to cinemas to watch what was pretty honestly marketed to them (the jacob vs edwardification of the symbolic love story and also to watch children fight to the death) it's just so ridiculously ironic i would say you can't write this shit, but she did write about it... in The Hunger Games published 2008
At this point I would like to thank all the people out there who write fanfiction. I love reading stories about my favorite pairings and try to write some of my own. You are the reason why my expectations of men and women are so high and I wouldn't have it any other way. 😊❤️
the companion to my other post about jason braiding reyna’s hair—i like to think that jason used to do these very neat, practical braids for her and she only started wearing the side-braid everyone draws her with after jason disappeared :’(
"There's no fear in you is there" Perfect little setup hee hee
and then it's followed up with no spiders what's even the point!
I don't understand why they're trying to make Annabeth invincible?? It's so strange to me, why is her only flaw that she's like.. kinda rude? give her back her dimensions!
I think the show was trying to play into her fears of abandonment a bit, or perhaps, Percy sacrificing himself for her was to remind her of Thalia sacrificing herself for her?
Leah and Walker played the scene so well I almost (almost) didn't mind the switch up. It was the first time their dynamic rang sincerely true to me, and we've gotten to see some very needed vulnerability from the both of them. But on the other hand... so much of their dialogue in that scene (where Percy is sacrificing himself) could have played out later when they have pearls in the underworld and the two of them + Grover are all trying to sacrifice themselves for each other. (Unless they're changing that scene as well? I dont even know at this point. We dont know if Percy got the pearls or not.)
Its just the spider moment in the book is so iconic, so Annabeth, I'm having a hard time parting with it, despite how heartfelt I think the show scene admittedly was. I think we could have kept the spider fear in the show, have Percy and Annabeth bond and get closer because of it, and then have the sacrificial dialogue moments and surrounding convo for later in the underworld. Then that dialogue would've felt more earned to me.
We are finally getting some more dimension to show Annabeth. More vulnerability. But she's still less dimensional and well-rounded compared to her book self by now. (Again not on Leah at all! In fact I think her acting was amazing in this episode). I just don't like how the writers or RR have seemingly taken out every trait that might make her seem less composed or perfectly mature: her crush on Luke, her spider phobia, her justification for going to the arch being sight seeing, her being tricked by medusa.... It would be one thing if they had done just one or even two of these changes, but all of these changes together just chip away from her overall personality and that's where my issues lie with her characterization. Her show self seems way less fallible, when she shouldn't be.
one of the hardest lines that man ever wrote and we just. didn’t get it. because we had to let percy explain the whole situation since he’s mommy’s smartest boy obviously
never bothered watching the movie but I feel this frame on a spiritual level
what was clarisse's plan in dumping percy into the lake?
"You're gonna be okay?"
"I don't know, it depends, you're gonna ask me this all the time?" Clarisse muffled in her boyfriend's shoulder, her head tucked against it.
Fortunately, no one was near her cabin at the moment therefore she could allow herself some PDA without anyone interrupting them.
"Sorry. I'm just worried about you." Chris said with a tone that was meant to be casual but she knew him for years by now; his worry was more than palpable.
She sighed and squeezed his hand in her own. Sometimes, she truly thought she didn't deserve him.
"I just... I miss her, Chris. I still can't believe she's gone."
"I know... I'm gonna miss her too. But at least she's with Beck' now. She's in peace, and she'd want you to be as well."
Clarisse shrugged. Her eyes focused on that ray of sunlight reflecting on one of Cabin 5's windows and that was announcing the end of the day. "It's gonna take some time, I think. And a lot of punching bags."
"I'll be here, if you need me. Always. But don't use me as a punching bag please."
She chuckled and slowly moved her head towards his. They were about to kiss when-
"Hey guys-woah! Private time here, eheh, too bad I don't have my camera."
"The heck you want Connor?" The daughter of Ares groaned at the other son of Hermes who was grinning at them.
"Well guess who else are about to go all kissy kissy? Guys it's Percabeth, something's happening!"
Chris rolled his eyes and said something about his brother acting like a fan girl but Clarisse frowned for a second before getting up.
"Get your annoying other half and the other Aphrodites. We're going to make them remember that kiss."
"Ooh, you're speaking my language for once La Rue. I'll get everyone, they're at the pavilion!" Connor said before dashing off excitedly.
Chris smiled at her and both followed him. Clarisse didn't know if it was going to make her feel better but at least, Silena's favorite ship was going to sail according to camp's tradition.
the only valid part of that outtake is percy liking spicy food. latino percy confirmed!
this is the only canon exchange rick riordan has ever written
changes in the pjo show that are better than their book counterparts (from a chronic over analyzer who has been obsessed with this series since age 12)
sally working morality lessons and her own opinions into explaining the greek myths to percy (sally is amazing any details included that allow more of her character to be shown are fine with me i love learning more about her thought process. i also think its a really interesting and more subtle way to show that the mortal parents of demigods are also impacted negatively/are victims of the gods actions.)
stating outright that luke sees annabeth as his sister (bc luke seeing annabeth as anything other than his sister defeats the point of the series in a lot of ways. it makes him irredeemable and is disgusting which overshadows all of his valid arguments and the way percy mirrors him. it's like when an author makes a morally gray character commits some vile act that is out of character but is so bad readers can't ignore it in order to turn that character into a "true villain".)
BRINGING UP THALIA (thalia is one of my favorite characters in the whole series so of course i'm ok with any mention of her, but it sets up future events so well. we understand characters motives sooner, its probably a way that luke can gauge whether a demigod will join the titan army based on their reactions to the story, WE SEE HOW DIFFERENTLY IT EFFECTED LUKE AND ANNABETH)
the medusa and annabeth parallel (that change shows the truth of the gods in one parallel. it sets up annabeth's change in mind set that we get to by the last olympian. i can't explain how much i love this parellel.)
annabeth being the one to watch luke's string be cut (he is her family, it will be her dagger, it is only fair she be the one to see it. that is all i have to say about it.)
GROVER MANIPULATING A GOD (i love this so much bc i think it shows his desperation in a way. he knows how much is riding on this and after finding his uncle and percy falling from the arch he is willing to do anything to succeed. no more thalias.)
there's probably more but that all i can think of atm
Ironic that here you can know more about me than anywhere else. (English isn't my first language, sorry for any mistakes.)
