I don't want to hear anything about solidarity with queer Palestinians from people who cheer on their principle oppressors. Queer Palestinians in the West Bank lost friends at the Nova concert massacres, but some people don't care. An Israeli Arab won Miss Trans Israel but none of them cared. Even in opposing Israeli policy towards queer Palestinians, none of them called for reforming the asylum process or to end policies of threatening to out Palestinians in order to turn them into informants. They prefer queer Palestinians to die than for their lives to improve through *Israeli* actions.

SMH we Israelis blazed the trail for trans people in Eurovision and now people talking about the queer history of Eurovision either erase Dana International or refuse to mention what country she represented. It is clear that the international LGBT movement does not care for LGBT Israelis. The goy queer population of Europe came out to protest Israel at Eurovision for the temerity of *existing* but did not march in solidarity when LGBT Israelis protested against homophobia and transphobia in our government last year. I do not want to hear a single word about the importance of intersectionality or solidarity again from people who believe Jews and Israelis are exempt form either of them.

I know this is such a doomer kind of attitude but I genuinely cannot stand it when people go around talking about the ‘silent majority’ when it comes to Jew hatred. There’s two main problems I have with this statement

— Sure, these people might support Jews now, but it’s probably safe to say the majority of people in the world have deeply ingrained biases against Jews. Those biases are easily exploited, easily brought out, and easily radicalised into rabid hatred. See: large swaths of leftist spaces, who honestly seemed like sleeper agents with how fast they openly admitted raping Jews is a moral thing. There’s also the issue of a lot of these silent majority people not supporting Hamas or believing in the Aryan race or thinking that Jews have no culture and we’re just stealing it from everyone else, but still tolerating those ideas being held in other people— it shows that these people neither understand nor care about the gravity of these views, which then makes those precious biases much, much easier to show

and

— The entire point of the silent majority is that they are silent. Sure, they might chat with their Jewish friends about how bad things are, they might express sympathy in private, things like that. But when push comes to shove, when Jews are being actively murdered wide scale, they don’t show up. They leave us in the dirt. They watch quietly as the Gestappo drags their neighbours away. They look away politely as their Dhimmi shopkeeper is beaten in the street for walking on the wrong side of the pavement. They close their blinds when their friend is tied to the stake and burned alive

I know it’s comforting to think of this vague concept of the silent majority, but it’s not actually reality. I know it sucks feeling like you need to have your guard up all the time (and you don’t, just be careful), it’s going to suck a whole lot more if you put yourself into a false sense of security. The silent majority are not our friends. The silent majority are not there for us. The silent majority don’t care. We can’t just live in a nebulous idea of people who quietly tut to themselves whenever they see someone saying ‘glory to the resistance’ or ‘Jews are trying to taint the Aryan race’, we need to focus on the tangible reality, and the people who are actually present

I think this is also why I, and so many other Jews, absolutely love non-Jewish allies. There’s something so indescribably amazing to see people in this world that’s been so horrible to us standing up for us, listening to us, helping us. Allies go through a lot of shit from others because they care about us, I’ve seen it so much— they’ll get vicious hate for just associating with Jews. And they still do it. They still stick with us. Because they care, and it’s just so wonderful

Spread the love to non-Jewish allies, you are so amazing. And to the silent majority, I hope you can become the help that we desperately need

I'm here, I'm queer and I'm fucking terrified.

where all my queer and trans jews DREADING PRIDE MONTH WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Same across all my social media. Also avoiding works by creators that say antisemitic stuff has left me with less and less entertainment to consume.

i finally started just unfollowing people who reblog antisemitic posts on here but now i have run into an entirely different problem

i'm not seeing any fandom posts about things i like on my dashboard anymore. that's the entire reason i use any social media, i want it back

pretty much the only things on my dashboard now are from other jews and they are understandably mostly just posting about the war and their own experiences with antisemitism

why are my options either "i constantly see people saying they want me and my people dead" or "there is nothing fun on my dashboard"

Number of people I have seen that are Jewish saying that criticising individual Jews, thinking Jews "aren't perfect" or saying that criticism of Israel is inherently antisemitic: 0

The number of non-Jews I have seen absolutely insist that saying "Jews aren't perfect" or disagreeing with a jew or that having criticism of Israel isn't antisemitic and implying or outright saying this is a common thing: I have lost count.

Weird, you would think that looking at Jumblr and being on Jewbook I would see more of this.

You know, even if there are like....nutters out there who insist on this, the absolute rampant amount of people saying "it is NOT antisemetic to be critical of x y z" is absolutely overwhelming and you should find it weird.

Why don't some of you find it weird? If someone said "no matter what anyone says, you don't HAVE to date someone who is bisexual and it is not inherently biphobic to not date someone who is bi" I know I am hearing a biphobic dogwhistle.

Because no one says that. No one says you HAVE to date a bi woman, or a trans woman, or a...anything. That is not a discourse that exists. What they are doing is strawmanning the discourse that does exist like "if you meet someone and they are great and they tick all your boxes and you won't date them BECAUSE they are bi/trans/whatever then you may have some issues related to those people" and then you will see them responding like "they told me I HAVE to have SEX with someone I don't WANT to" which is certainly....an interpretation of the text, I guess.

So it is...odd, interesting? How many people don't see or chose to ignore how fucking weird it is that this disclaimer is just...everywhere? Literally people I have known for years have added it to posts. Like, they will have a perfectly legitimate post being critical of Israeli action or something and then either preface it with that disclaimer or end it. Sometimes they bookend it.

It is so bizarre.

Because if someone said "Israel is bad and therefore should be bombed off the map and cease to exist, can't wait until they don't exist anymore" that is where you might get someone pointing out that it is the largest concentration of Jews in the world, many of which are from other Middle Eastern nations and have literally nowhere to go. So you might just be being antisemetic to have this particular energy towards Israel and ONLY Israel and not a single other country you talk about being actually destroyed like it is a good thing. (Even if the person was just being hyperbolic, although I have seen a few....less than covert nazis saying similar). Because it wasn't a criticism of anything, just a wish for the dead of many people to solve the problem of...people dying.

Now of course there exists the possibility that people who have been heavily exposed to this kind of rhetoric will be overly sensitive and take any criticism of Israel as bad faith. Of course that exists.

But I should still not personally see so overwhelming an amount of "it is not antisemetic to-" posts that are completely non-sequiter.

And I don't think it is just me. This seems to be an issue that is being noticed by others, that this ratio of people saying it is antisemetic to critique Israel at ALL and the people saying it is not....are wildly uneven.

Y'all need to stop letting Jews be the only ones to call this out, or at least be honest that you don't care.

It is not an appropriate way to engage in this topic. Stop allowing dogwhistles and strawmen to cut off any potential avenue of criticism and continue this "unreasonable jews" narrative.

Tl;dr: when someone says "it is not antisemetic to-" chances are they are about to engage in antisemitism. Just say what you want to say without the "not to be homophobic" type language. If what you are saying is informed and thoughtful then just fucking say it in a way that reflects that, even if people don't agree with it.

it's so annoying seeing posts about Jewish culture—cutesy posts about fighting with g-d that appeal to Christian atheists' religious trauma, posts with Jewish music, posts with pictures of beautiful Jews—getting tens or even hundreds of thousands of notes, but the moment someone makes a post about antisemitism—about how it's built in to Western society, about how it's insidious and creeping, about how you've probably internalized it, about the difficulties we face and the grief we feel—they fail to break jumblr containment. Don't get me wrong, I love that goyim are celebrating Jewish culture as something beautiful and wonderful, but that can't be all we are to you. We're real people with real problems that you can't just ignore in favor of reblogging posts about bagels or whatever

I don't know if I'll ever post again. So many communities I have long identified are now antisemitic cesspools. I don't want to post politics here, but I also don't want to participate in a platform outright hostile to my country's existence. Not deleting the blog or the account - I still check things occasionally and might come back to posting some day who knows. I'm also not bothering to unfollow people because I don't have the spoons to check on everyone's post history over the last several months.

Big mood

All of my worldbuilding projects remind me too much of what is going on for me to be able to work on any of them.

Feeling weird about being an angst writer at the moment

How can I enjoy guiding characters through The Horrors when those same horrors really are being inflicted on my people and possibly my friends, without the neat closure of being saved by a mentor or brought closer with a lover or receiving the comfort and catharsis to heal?

It's definitely not like I can't write other types of story - the play I wrote and directed is a romantic drama comedy, the opera I'm working on is G&S-inspired with only a little vulnerable-hero-in-deadly-peril, and I have concepts in various stages of development in all genres and styles.

But one of my favourite tropes suddenly feeling off-limits as I'm already behind on many stories that involve it is... very unbalancing.

Et tu Orteil?

So far unfollowed two people over the war in Israel and Palestine. Thought that after the last conflict I had already sorted out who not to follow. At least none of them are mutuals, but one of them is a conlanger and linguist I've admired for so many years whose insights on PIE reconstruction have been of great interest to me.

I never expected a webcomic artist who writes about peace and love for everyone and the importance of standing up for LGBT rights everywhere would link to a site that calls for the end of Israel's existence and a Jewish group that repeatedly uses undeniably antisemitic imagery in their attacks on Israel as well as homophobia.

Hey remember when both TNG and DS9 had multiple episodes about how even if you've been at war with people for decades they're never a monolith and should not be indiscriminately hated and killed

Just a thought

And I unfollowed another person, a game creator I've been interested in. But this time it wasn't surprising, as it's only a more extreme version of what they said in 2021. I pretty much thought that account would say what they ended up saying; only they didn't open their mouth on it until today.

Israeli entry for Eurovision in 2009, sung in Hebrew, English and Arabic. The singer on the left is Noa, a Yemenite Jew. The singer on the right is Mira Awad, half Palestinian and half Bulgarian. Both are Israeli citizens.

I feel the lyrics are as relevant today as they were in 2009, if not more so,

Edit: Meant to include a translation

My thoughts are with everyone affected by Hamas' brutal attack on Israel, regardless of nationality, ethnicity or religion, regardless of if they live in Israel, Palestine or Lebanon. Every time someone dies is a tragedy, regardless of what side they are on or what things they did.

one of my personal favorite dichotomies in atla is how iroh, once the top strategist and highest-ranking general of the fire nation, now directs all his energy and considerable tactical experience towards attempting to keep his teenage nephew from throwing himself into life-threatening situations AND IROH REGULARLY FAILS TO PREVENT HIM FROM DOING SO.

he lead a six-hundred day siege and now iroh can't keep up with a sixteen-year-old armed with two swords and a passionate deathwish. zuko's motto is "act first, think never" and he's running rings around his uncle. it's like!!! who's gonna come out on top, iroh's west point education vs. zuko's deep and abiding commitment to always choosing the stupidest possible course of action, and zuko manages to win every single time

We are in a mansion where we had to leave our weapons at the door. There are however* pretty sharp knives on the dinner tables around the ballroom.

Player: Can I steal a knife?

Dm: Roll slight of hand.

Player: Nat 20

Dm: *sigh* How many do you want?

We each got a knife and proceeded to try to pick the lock to the study with them.

*We already made fun of the lax security standards the whole evening.

The Reduction Gears And Steam Turbines Under Construction At The General Electric Plant, Circa March

There are four sets of double reduction cross-compound geared turbines, with each turbine set driving a single shaft. “They offered almost 10-1 reduction to allow the turbines to run at much higher and more efficient rpm. These are some of the most critical components of the powerplant and one of the things which allowed long ranges in US battleships.“

Due to the date and the fact USS Iowa (BB-61) and USS Missouri (BB-63) were the only Iowa Class Battleships to receive General Electric gears and turbines, these are most likely for USS Missouri.
