Her name echoes in Chiari's mind all day, haunting her much louder than normal. Her mother, one of the numerous ruthlessly slaughtered that day, was lost to her forever in everything but memory. She wonders whether or not there was a memorial to those lost, a grave, something she could visit if she ever felt courageous enough to return. She wouldn't. Coward. Idiot.

It's not like she could have done anything, even if she hadn't been all but returning from the dead several lands away. She would have been another body to be dealt with, another sorry excuse for a shinobi who could do nothing to prevent the inevitable destruction.

Thinking like this is like spiraling down the drain and she tries to fight the sensation of drowning most days but today it threatens to consume her and she lets it. One day won't hurt. Somewhere at the bottom of this glass was an escape she would continue to chase the rest of the night while the noise of this secluded bar clamoured around her.

And then he hits her with little miss and it's painfully difficult to keep her lip from curling with disgust at the phrasing. He's talking about fines and the numbers fly past her without much consideration.

"Going for a walk and loitering are hardly the same thing," she's trying to maintain her casual composure from before but there's the tiniest bite to her tone. "So unless you can come up with a legitimate grievance with me, I'll be off."

He’s squinting alright. He’s squinting real hard.

“Is that snarkasm I’m hearing?” Kotetsu puts his pen between the pages of his notebook and gives it a hard snap closed before resting his knuckles on his hip.

“Listen, little miss, I don’t know if you’re aware of this, but a fine for loitering outside of Konoha’s gates without express permission from the Hokage, accompaniment of a guide, or a notice of travel can run anywhere from 150,000 to 500,000 ryo,” Kotetsu pulls the numbers completely out of his ass as he waves his notepad at her derogatorily. He’s sure the numbers are somewhere in that ballpark…

“So if you can’t produce evidence of a travel notice or a Kage’s signature, I’ve got half a mind to smack a trespassing violation on top of the loitering charge! That’s another 75,000 to 250,000 ryo I’m sure you don’t have right now.”

So what I’m getting is different villages have different bingo books?

And now connecting the dots- someone missing but assumed dead wouldn’t make the book, I would think, unless there was some reason to think they were perhaps alive? And only if they were a threat in some way?

Would also be unfortunate if someone uhh thought perhaps that (faux) aligning with a different village under a new identity to avoid the chaos of being a missing nin and fending for oneself, and then accidentally made a name for themselves using their skills to perhaps take out some frustration / survivor’s guilt / pain a little too eagerly in their work and accidentally found themselves in Konoha’s bingo book

I hit episode 201 of part 1 and I have questions and I’ve been told specifically to not google things even if it’s in filler just in case of spoilers

plane ride was good if not a tad bumpy but at least I made some progress on part 1

On one of my other oc blogs I had a lot of fun writing headcanons based on relevant tropes so I’ll probably do that?? But I need to finish my about page as much as is reasonable first and then I can make silly posts as a treat
