Is it possible for me to become a doctor in the United States if I'm a trans woman? I'm going into the medical field and that's my biggest concern.

Yes!! While there may be discrimination (because you’re a woman and because you’re trans), no one’s going to stop you. One of the hormone providers in my area is actually a trans woman, and I live in a pretty conservative area, so for sure it’s possible. 

If you are worried about discrimination/safety, and you pass well enough, you could go stealth so nobody knows you are trans while you work through med school and navigate the professional field. I would suggest getting your ID changed as soon as possible, if you haven’t already, so all your records are under the correct name.

I need help. I live in a very abusive situation, with my parents and now my ex-girlfriend. My parents aren't bad now, but my ex keeps trying to come back, even to just be friends. I need not only advice, but support too

I’m not sure the entirety of your situation, but if it’s possible check if there are any lgbt groups in your area because they will sometimes have support groups that could help you, also I’m not aware of the past with your ex but if it was unhealthy or abusive I suggest you do your best to cut ties with her or do whatever is best for your mental and physical health, as for your parents if it gets bad you can report them if you feel safe doing so or you can seek out others in a similar scenario who may be able to offer advice on how to get through it until you can leave home, I would search through tumblr or online in general for some online support groups for abuse because there are some communities out there that can help.-Brianna

There’s a lot of talk about physical violence and employment discrimination against trans people, but there’s one aspect you don’t hear much about: health care.

According to 2011′s National Transgender Discrimination Survey, nearly 20% of survey respondents reported having been refused care because they’re transgender. More than 25% reported being harassed in a doctor’s office, and 50% had to actually educate their doctors on aspects of trans health care.

“I have been refused emergency room treatment even when delivered to the hospital by ambulance with numerous broken bones and wounds,” says one survey respondent.

But a group of four trans people have teamed up to provide a simple service: connect other folks with trans-friendly medical providers.

I normally wouldn't do this, but I am in need. My parents have kicked me out because of my gender identity and their strict religious upbringing, I have lost my job, and I am in need until I can find another job. My girlfriend is helping me how she can but right now, I have no home, no job and no money. Please help a transgirl out how you can.

Edit: just adding some info. My dad has been emotionally abusive and manipulative, making me pay for stuff out of the blue, draining my money when I was trying to save. I'm trying to focus on finishing school in a few weeks (I am 18 and in college), but it was impossible to do so with my job, which constantly made me stressed and sick, as I worked the late hours of night, right after I got out of school and not getting home until 1 in the morning.

Anywhere I could go would be I would have to start over, but right now, I have no money to do that, so that's why I'm asking for help.

I’m wanting to learn more about HRT (I’m considering it a little) are there many more major sex hormones other than testosterone or estrogen? If so, what are they?

There are a lot of hormones in your body, including a lot of sex hormones, but the main ones used in transitioning are testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone. In males, T is responsible for basically all of the male sex characteristics, and in females, E is responsible for most of the female sex characteristics. I’ve heard of some trans women taking progesterone as well, but I believe it’s less common than E. 

When a trans person is considering HRT, if they are afab (born female), they will take testosterone. T is a stronger hormone than E, so unless they’re underage and on a very low dose, they don’t have to take estrogen blockers. If they are amab (born male), they take estrogen and androgen blockers. Testosterone is an androgen, so by blocking it, they’re allowing estrogen to be the dominant hormone in their body.
